Obama, Soros, Petrobras, Brazil & offshore drilling double standards

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 19, 2009 09:22 PM

Yes, it’s true.

Barack Obama has chipped in $2 billion in loans to exploit offshore oil resources in hopes of extracting a major new source of petroleum…in South America.

And yes, it’s true.

There is a Soros link.

Ed Morrissey has a round-up and notes:

Is it a coincidence that Obama backer George Soros repositioned himself in Petrobras to get dividends just a few days before Obama committed $2 billion in loans and guarantees for Petrobras’ offshore operations? Hmmmmmmmmmm.

Leipold’s admission that Greenpeace issued misleading information is a major embarrassment to the organization, which often has been accused of alarmism but has always insisted that it applies full scientific rigor in its global-warming pronouncements.

Although he admitted Greenpeace had released inaccurate but alarming information, Leipold defended the organization’s practice of “emotionalizing issues” in order to bring the public around to its way of thinking and alter public opinion.

Typical headlined story. The original headlines are remembered but the followup is never seen … except here at MM.

My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we’d make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds- pretty standard really. At the age of twelve I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum… it’s breathtaking- I highly suggest you try it.

Gentlemen, it has come to my attention that a breakaway Russian Republic called Kreplachistan will be transferring a nuclear warhead to the United Nations in a few days. Here’s the plan. We get the warhead and we hold the world ransom for… ONE MILLION DOLLARS!
Number Two: Don’t you think we should ask for *more* than a million dollars? A million dollars isn’t exactly a lot of money these days. Virtucon alone makes over 9 billion dollars a year!
Dr. Evil: Really? That’s a lot of money.
    [pause]
Dr. Evil: Okay then, we hold the world ransom for…
Dr. Evil: One… Hundred… BILLION DOLLARS!

Sarah Palin: YOUR TAX DOLLARS HARD AT WORK: FIRST CARS, NOW FOREIGN OIL.

Today’s Wall Street Journal contains some puzzling news for all Americans who are impacted by high energy prices and who share the goal of moving us toward energy independence.

For years, states rich with an abundance of oil and natural gas have been begging Washington, DC politicians for the right to develop their own natural resources on federal lands and off shore. Such development would mean good paying jobs here in the United States (with health benefits) and the resulting royalties and taxes would provide money for federal coffers that would potentially off-set the need for higher income taxes, reduce the federal debt and deficits, or even help fund a trillion dollar health care plan if one were so inclined to support such a plan.

So why is it that during these tough times, when we have great needs at home, the Obama White House is prepared to send more than two billion of your hard-earned tax dollars to Brazil so that the nation’s state-owned oil company, Petrobras, can drill off shore and create jobs developing its own resources? That’s all Americans want; but such rational energy development has been continually thwarted by rabid environmentalists, faceless bureaucrats and a seemingly endless parade of lawsuits aimed at shutting down new energy projects.

I am getting anxious for Sarah Palin to start doing this in front of ten thousand people at a time.

    Faster, please!

Obama has shown that he wanted a job that he just wasn’t qualified to do. The man has very little idea on how to be a President and properly govern a nation. Over the past few months, he has certainly shown that…no leadership. He moved into the White House, with grandiose ideas on what he thought should be the rule, and, instead, has stumbled and outright abused the office. The man is way over his head. Unfortunately, if he is gone, the country gets stuck with Mr. Dementia…Biden. If that doesn’t work, then Pelosi, who, in her mind, is one of the few Americans left in this country. Lord help us if we have a real crisis come up. All we’ll see of Obama is him going “uh…uh” in front of a teleprompter.

Well, when you’re throwing away millions on any leftist group with their hands out, one must replenish the coffers somehow.

Better to do so with some safe insider information than to risk it like old-fashioned capitalism.

We pointed out how it makes no sense for the Cubans to allow drilling so close to our shores while our own government has needlessly delayed the process for American oil and gas exploration.

But in today’s Wall Street Journal, the narrative of our current irrational energy policy got worse: America will be financing offshore oil and gas exploration… in Brazil.

    And Soros profits from it…
