Cone of Shame Award: Democrat Rep. Melissa Bean

She billed her $25/person Chamber of Commerce pow-wow as a “town hall,” then had it changed after getting smoked out.
Then she hastily convened a telephone town hall, but didn’t notify constituents until the last minute.
Reader Mary in Johnsburg, Illinois e-mailed last night:
Hi Michelle,
I am a constituent of Melissa Bean here in Illinois. This evening I guess she held her so-called town meeting. I received a phone call at approx. 8:50pm this evening and it was a phone (town hall) meeting that was already in session…almost near completion as well.
There was no way for me, or most other people for that matter, to even speak our concerns to her because of the nature of the meeting itself being a “phone” meeting!
…Wasted tax dollars on this phone meeting where we only get to hear those who get through the screener and Melissa feed us some more of her twisted tales of health care…
Just thought you should know. I am also going to be outside of her office here in Illinois on Sat. August 22nd. Maybe I should bring a camera along so others can see just what unruly astroturf we are
Reader Jim in Mundelein, IL:
I was signed up for IL Congresswoman Melissa Bean’s tele-town hall meeting tonight, but I never received a call as promised. I was told that I would receive a call between 8:20 and 8:30 CST. Instead I received a call just before 9:00 CST tonight with Melissa Bean’s recorded voice saying that she was sorry that I was unavailable when she called earlier in the evening. She then went on to list a number of topics that they had discussed during the “town hall meeting.”
I know they never called because I’ve been sitting by the phone waiting for her call all evening. They obviously had my phone number and name on their list or I wouldn’t have receive the apology call at 9:00. Perhaps they recognized my name from letters that I’ve sent in opposition to Obamacare.
But the biggest problem I have is believing that they actually managed to hold a town hall meeting, take questions from all of her passionate constituents, cover all of the topics she mentioned in the phone call and manage to have the meeting last less than 30 minutes.
Give me a break!
Reader Barbara in IL:
I just talked to her staffer and only people who have signed up previously will be on a telephone townhall tonight (approx 8:30 cst ).
I have called her office for 3 weeks to find out where and when she would be meeting with 8th district residents. I was told repeatly that the scheduler was working on it. I asked numerous times if it was a face to face vs a telephone town hall. I was lied to. She is a coward-an arrogant incompetent coward.
I guess I’ll have to get my signs ready and get to the Concorde banquet facility for the Lake Zurich Chamber of Commerce breakfast. Bacon Eggs and BS.
And from John Ruberry at Marathon Pundit:
While driving around Marathon Pundit-land, I switched on Mancow Muller’s WLS-AM show, and found out that alleged-Blue Dog Rep. Melissa Bean (D-IL) will be holding a conference call “town hall” meeting.
Can anyone participate?
No.
I just called Bean’s office, and a nervous man answered the phone that the list of names of people who have contacted Bean’s office in the past can participate in tonight’s call.
I asked her staffer if I could be added right now, he said that “It was too late, the list for tonight’s call has already been submitted to a private company.
Bean is a coward, plain and simple.
But if you are on Bean’s contact list, you will receive a call between 8:20pm and 8:30pm CDT this evening. Answer that call.
Bean voted for both the $787 billion stimulus bill and the national energy tax, better known as cap and trade. She’s considering a second stimulus.

They are terrified to meet with thier constituents. Get the tar and feathers ready…
Well if she doesn’t want to talk to her constituents, they can remedy that problem for her by not re-electing her. Seems to me running from the people is not a good way to run for the people’s office.
Time to give her a reality check. Vote her out!
Looks like a perfect opportunity for a photoshopper to “blend” the two photos here.
Poor Doug…
Folks, just remember that all this anger will be for naught if she gets re-elected. Do what you can to make sure that doesn’t happen.
And yet, she was voted into office….
They are hoping we have short memories. Unfortunately most of the DEM voters do when a DEM elected official starts with I am fighting for working families, children, fill in the blank; and then ends with a diatribe of making the rich pay their fair share. This diatribe seems to cause amnesia in ignorant voters.
You beat me to it!
From your mouth to God’s ears.
Would that not be a sweet irony?
A variation on the famous line by the fool that couldn’t understand how Nixon won, because she didn’t know anyone who had voted for him.
In this case, if things that are not good happen to people who are not good, the socialist Bean will lose her bid for reelection.
And, because of her stupid, cowardly hding from constituents, she will be dazed and confused by her losing election results, and say to herself that she doesn’t understand why she lost, because she didn’t know anyone who disagreed with her and was not going to vote for her.
Sorry fellow conservative commentators. No dice IMO. Despite all the rhetoric, Bean and the rest of her ilk will get voted right back in. “Public ejukation” and “Hollyweird” have taken their toll. The “Greatest Generation” has spawned the “Worst Generation” who now ride the helm of the general management of this land, and it’s going to take the “Lost Generations” via the grace of Almighty God to pick up the pieces once everything has fleshed itself out. Needless to say, I hope I’m wrong…
These b@st@rds are going to do whatever the hell serves their own selfish motivations, and then they’ll push shamnesty through. Then they’ll have their permanent majority of sheeple.
B@st@rds!
Please do! and let us send Representative Bean Udderly Smooth Udder Cream to go along with that cone
It works on my dog when she gets the “inappropriate”, not that I am comparing my dog to a Democrat, absolutely not. If the cream works on a Blue Dog I do not know. I can’t not tell if Bean is from IL 8 or 9 but those voters have some ‘splaining to do Sonia.
onefed, I fear that what you say is true. But that’s why conservatives have to get off the couch and work to vote these idiots out. We have to be as diligent as the ACORN fraud patrol and educate voters about how these elitist crooks are taking away our freedom.
I plan to go door to door and talk to people in my area about the crooks we keep electing. Granted some people are hardcore and will never not vote Dumbocrat.
Can anyone not find an argument the next time you hear “but Bush…..”?
We all need to remember that it is not Obama who is doing this and it is not “Congress” that is doing this to us. It is individual Representatives and Senators. And with that, there is something that “we the people” can do about it come November 2010. We hold the ultimate power as long as we stay focused and active.
One good think to come out of the ObamaCare is that the constituents are finding out who they voted for. Now lets hope that they can remember that in the up coming election. Without the “useful idiots” these politicians are toast.
All to often but then “the greatest generation” did inclued FDR,Frances Perkins, JFK and brothers, Harry Truman, Walter Cranky, Obama’s Typical White Grandpa and a whole host of socialist. The Boomers do include me and El Rushbo, a couple of million Viet Nam Vets who did not embrace Kerry and the parents of our current Solders, Sailors, Airmen and Marines.
But then I always considered the Continental Army, their families and the Founders the “Greatest Generation” despite what some scumbag talking head of TV said. I think my father would be upset with the “Greatest Generation” label. He talked little of the war and we did not get his record until after he died. His one answer: “we had a job to do and we did it, now get busy or I’ll find something for you to do”. Sound familiar? I’ll bet it does to many.
courage is a bad word to liberals, the bean red hair must clash with that very wide yellow streak down her back.
The people she is supposed to represent should surround her office and demand she come out and listen.
Cowardly Socialist B_tch!
Tigerlady and ArizonaNeanderthal, all your points are well taken and I agree. I admit to painting with a broad brush in my assumptions, but I truly think that there’s something to the notion of zeitgeist and an overarching attitude being “in the air”. When I say “Worst Generation” and the need for succeeding generations to pick up the pieces, it’s simply a result of those notions. Lefty-minded zeitgeist is in the air. On one hand, I take comfort in the fact that the Founding Fathers were a distinct minority who were very vocal. On the other hand, I dread the fact that the last 30 years has seen the same can be said with those on the wrong side of the aisle. As I said, I hope I’m mistaken and things work out differently. I hate being a pessimist…
I cracked up when I saw the “cone of shame” graphic from “Up”, a very funny movie. Too bad Ms. Bean and the rest of our government represent the other face of theater, tragedy.
Sounds very familiar!
My late father also talked very little about his service, and even less about his brother who died in the war.
This Fox News article covering the tele-town halls is interesting. It notes Rep. Carol Shea-Porter’s plan to hold tele-town halls to avoid constituents — yet she “hounded” her opponent at his town halls to win office.
That seems to be a cause, not an irony, to me.
and the brown streak in her skivvie shorts!
Never hit an opponent when they are down. Kick them. It’s so much easier!!!
do even commie liberals think these peoples condescension and let them eat cake attitudes are good for them? when they have taken all the money from the rich, and taxed all those right wing aholes, and still need more to feed their egos, who do you suppose goes into the barrel then lgm &rss?
Simply trying to masticate what these phonies serve, leaves a bad taste in one’s mouth. Chew it, and taste it, but don’t be surprised when no flavor or substance can be found.
Will you continue to believe, “it tastes good, and it’s good for you! Take another bite…mmmm, yummy!” Or, will you do what experience, and nature has taught you?
Accept their “explanations,” mull it around, discuss it with others, and when your brain tells you it’s sour, and poison….
Expectorate.
Do these Cones Of Shame come with coupons for a free spay or neuter?
Dad-grandpa? Is that you?
Dear Brainiac Bean,
Conference calls don’t count as town-hall meetings either. The concept is WE talk and YOU listen. Genius.
I don’t think you are mistaken. We’ve seen people like Barney’s Frank, Ted Kennedy, Dingy Reed, Boxer, Pelosi (I’m making myself sick) get re-elected time and time again. People are truly sheep when it comes to politics.
But maybe this threat of socialism is enough for people to get off their butts and do something to change it. Supposedly, conservatives are in the majority. Let’s see if we can make that work for liberty.
Actually, that was grandma speaking.
The orchestrated charade that began in April to convince America that universal government provided health care was really, really wanted….flopped.
All of the liberal democrats are doing the same thing. Holding a venue to sell Obamacare. None of these events are anything else. They telegraphed their votes and are unable to sell the idea of populist support despite; paying people to show up to support it, busing them in, using the union rolls, and having the Obama compliant media in their corner.
The people are showing their rightful power after laying dormant for so long.
Find a tea party organization and join it!
Louise Slaughter (D-NY 28) is doing the same darn thing. Day after day I called asking about a town hall, being told each time, oh yes she’s planning at least one (to cover FOUR large counties??). Comes to pass, there’s 2 telephone excuses for town halls scheduled now. Coward. BTW…..I’ve also been emailing her office, haven’t received as much as a “form” response from that excuse for a representative! She needs to retire, like 20 years ago!
