August 22: Recess Rally

Today is the nationwide grass-roots recess rally against socialized medicine. Folks across the country will be gathering at congressional offices to make their voices heard.

Nothing within a hundred miles.
Mine is about 4 miles but one hundred and nine degrees @ noon here.
maybe a drive by and stop in if looks interesting.
Meh… my rep is Pete King. Don’t much care for him usually, but I’m pretty sure he’ll vote no on this. Other closest is Carolyn McCarthy. She’s a hopeless loon – not worth bothering.
I hear ya aj, anything over 103 is kind of toasty.
Speaking of “wee-wee” -
Maybe I should ask (my) Sen. Reid about the $2 TRILLION “poo poo” our president left on the White House lawn on the way to his vacation.
Of course, we taxpayers have to do the cleanup.
Looks like a shovel-ready project to me!
Excellent advice with one word of caution: try to NOT let someone bait you into losing your composer and start screaming and/or using abusive language. Say what you have to say, say if forcefully and say it well-write it down beforehand.
But if someone does get to you and you lose control know this: the local TV cameras will show you and not the provocateur. Watch for the potted plants with the Nazi Swatizas and vulgar signs–they won’t be our people but Botox Nancy’s. Say hell-o to lgm for me.
–
May the President and Congress have more and longer vacations- much more, much longer
We changed our plans to be there
(bring an umbrella, if you’re heading to Old Town Alexandria…).
Keep one thing in the back of your mind my Tea Partying fellows: do not let the tyranny of the urgent overshadow what is more important. Sure, is blocking socialist policies important? Of course, but has anyone been thinking about the 2010 and 2012 elections? Folks do all kinds of work between elections, yet when election time comes, it seems like “conservatives” lose their minds. By that I mean most “conservatives” just blindly vote for whichever guy has an “R” next to his name rather than actually vetting potential candidates worthy of your vote. Forget party affiliation and look for the best candidate. If you spend the time now supporting a candidate in your area, then both you and that candidate will actually have a chance at winning so you won’t have to bust your butts so hard to block idiotic legislation. Wouldn’t it be nice to be on the offense for a change?
We all have a Congressional District Office relatively near us!
Check the Recess Rally site or do a Google search to find out where your Congressional office is.
Unless you have heard a different time for your area, just show up at Noon!
Beautiful weather for a visit to Mr. Cleaver’s office.
Looks like PA district 4 (Jason “Pelosi Lap Dog” Altmire) rally will be down in Aliquippa. I will try to make it, will have to leave in a few to get there.
Watch the rats slink away from the ship.
I understand Clair McCaskill will be absent. Russ Carnahan had a private town hall meeting with 4 of his lap dogs and called it a huge success.
I hope to see both of these lunes voted out of office asap.
TigerLady, we share Clair. Would love to see her ‘OOTO’. She’s cagey isn’t she…knows just what to say….sadly, I’m impressed.
Nothing local here ! I’m in Afghanistan!! I want to thank you Michelle, and all who post here for keeping me so well informed while I’m away.
God bless you all and God bless America !!!
She is that. I can’t say I’m impressed with her. I think she’s a typical career politician. I hope someone strong comes out to beat her at re-election.
Didn’t she beat Talent by around 50 votes? I think we have a nut problem in Missouri-called acorn, among other nuts.
And Russ Carnahan just makes me want to puke. He’s an arrogant little b.a.s.t.a.r.d.
Just saw this on foxnews.com. Note this quote from the article:
Gee. Wonder why they didn’t emigrate to Canada, Great Britain, France, or Germany?? Isn’t their health care systems better than the U.S’s?
Anyone here planning to go to DC for the Sept. 12th rally? My husband and I have been discussing it. I hope there are over 1 million there. The MSM can’t ignore that number of folks, can it?? Never mind.
She has been called back to Uranus Prime for regeneration.
I was disappointed that there’s not one at Rep. Kratovil’s local office here in Salisbury but considering what happened last time that may be for the best.
Yes, Salisbury is the home of the now-famous effigy bearer.
On our way to Congressman Ike Skeltons Blue Springs office. The coward has time to meet with bankers in Blue Springs on the 14th of August but not to meet with us.
If Kratovil votes “Yes” on Nationalized Healthcare, won’t even a ham sandwich defeat him in that district next time around??
See ya’ at Northgate mall (Seattle). Collie, are the HD videoCAM batteries fully charged?
My collie says:
Now where’s that sign that I made for my 4-month-old? — the one that says “Mr. Obama, please give my future back to me!”
And remember, to save health care as it is we have to ban medical research. Otherwise those socialistic islamofascists research and development people will come up with more life saving technology than our current system can afford. They are the ones bringing us death panels and destroying our way of life.
Want the cost of health care to stop rising? Do something about it.
Otherwise, if the cost of health care keeps going up as it has been, very few of us will be able to afford it in ten years. The system is going to change one way or another. Either we ban progress (unlikely), or we have some kind of rationing.
The local news stations reported several times this week that the St. Louis offices of MO House Rep Carnahan and MO Senator McCaskill will NOT be in their offices TODAY, but that will not deter the exercise of our First Amendment Rights TODAY nor the American citizens’ FIGHT to preserve our Constitutional Rights which are “critically endangered”! jb
The degree of narcissism here is not to be believed. The more the country says “no”, the harder this guy pushes his socialist agenda. This stalk of flowering ragweed to which there is no anti-allergen seems only to be energized by the opposition. To him bipartisan means “…you agree with me”.
He knows that he is going to get only one chance to force his socialist agenda on the nation and the will of the majority of the people means nothing to him – my will is what’s important here. We are watching arrogance to such an alarming degree that one man believes he can thwart the will of a nation of folk and their duly accepted Constitution.
Can you imagine the battles that go on behind closed family doors? Still, I imagine him to be the looser of those battles more times than not with the threat of those two little words, “the couch”. Maybe that’s what driving him–he wants to win one.

Instead of tampering with the American pipeline of lifesaving pharmaceuticals and medical procedures that have instrumentally raised the standard of living both domestically and worldwide…why not begin by asking our Federal Government to abide by the basic laws of supply and demand?
LOL. Is she going with Barney’s Frank and his delegation?
Let’s hope they’re not in their offices after the 2010 election!
We just got home from the rally at Ike Skeltons Blue Springs, MO office. When we arrived at about 12:14 there was only a couple of other folks there, including a photographer for the Independence Examiner (Independence, MO). Talk about a left wing rag. A few mor folks showed up as time went on. We had great conversation and made some new friends.
While there, one woman arrived and got out of her truck ready for a fight saying she was for the public option and spewing the talking points she’s been hearing. It was quite funny how we responded to her – with the facts. She was told that if she has been denied coverage by insurers in the state of MO shee needed to contact the MO Insurance Commissioner and he would get into the state run pool – she didn’t know that. She also had not read the bill and was saying “there is no bill yet”. We nicely told her the house bill, H.R.3200 is what we were talking about and that it has been written.
She said she hasn’t read it but would. Her tone and demeanor were quite different when she left.
We were quite polite and had our facts. Other than that not much happened – received a lot of thumbs up and honks by passer by’s.
It is a beautiful day here, sunny and mid 70′s.
Lgm (My Left Gonad):
Have you ever been right about anything in you life? Since the ‘accident’?
“”we have to ban medical research“” yes lgm/mlg whatever, YOUR people would indeed pretty much destroy research. Fifty years of Federal and state mandates and interference are the biggest reasons for the huge jumps in health care cost.
Research? Do some research on the standard treatment for prostate cancer in the US-(non Medicare)-Vs Canada. Of course in you case the effects would only be half as bad
Actually, attempts to curtail and even stop scientific research come from the left: animal rights activists are terrorizing scientists everywhere.

You might be trying to insinuate that Bush stopped fetal stem cell research, but that was only federal funding, and private companies and states were free to finance any of that research.
Let’s start with tort reform! Oh yeah, they are strong supporters of Democrats. No reform there I guess!
Let’s get those evil pharmaceutical companies to lower their drug prices! Oh wait! Obama cut a secret deal with them. No dice.
Let’s just run it all like Medicare! Oh wait! That is bankrupt!
Which is exactly what the government will have to do in the face of millions more customers and the same (or fewer) doctors. Guaranteed long lines, and eventual rationing. It will assuredly become like Social Security, with more and more people being supported by fewer and fewer “contributors”. Hey! Here is an idea: let’s stop abortions so we will have plenty of financial cannon fodder to pay for socialized medicine!
Wow! Ain’t “hope and change” great!
I bet global warming will kill us first anyway!
The usual method of ‘rationing’ scarce and/or expensive technologies or scarce and/or expensive anything at all is those who are able and willing to pay for it get it, while those who are unable or unwilling to pay for it have to wait until the same kind of innovation and creativity that created the scarce and/or expensive items makes them cheap enough for everyone.
That is how freedom works, lgm. That is why it works better than anything else.
Some of the current problem we are having is due to Medicare being too generous. It is going bankrupt. The usual solution, the solution that is actually FAIR, is to make Medicare cutbacks or raise premiums until it is NOT going bankrupt.
Unfortunately, the only solution worshippers of the State can see to ‘fixing’ the Medicare welfare catastrophe (and Medicare IS welfare; we do not pay in enough to cover its outlays; that is why it is going bankrupt) is to destroy our medical care system by making it all like Medicare.
Brian #21:
I thought a ham sandwich should have defeated Kratovil the last time. He only got 49% of the vote (buoyed by Obama turnout) and basically won because our former RINO Congressman endorsed him after losing in the primary.
So I take nothing for granted and predict he will be a “yes” vote. After all, to him “universal health care…means universal.”

My wife, my sister, a neighbor and I paid a visit to Congressman Jerry Costello’s office in Belleville, IL. Only 10 people showed up, but I made 6 new friends. They were all very well informed and polite “evil mongers”. We were disappointed that so few of us came out. To be fair Costello has come out against H.R. 3200, however, he has not held any town halls and does not plan to have any. How about the rest of you, did you attend gatherings and what was turnout like?
I’ll be there, along with a few friends. I’m hoping there are hundreds of thousands also. There are rumblings on the left about having a march on 9/13—would love to outnumber them by thousands.
For those of you who can, this is a great chance to let the powers-that-be know that we are the silent-no-more-majority.
Here’s the wrap up from the one in Chicago.
We went to the one in Salt Lake City. It was extremely difficult to find. Only 5 showed up but all of us saw others circling the area looking for something. The ones there were as boring as me. One senior just out of the hospital, two small business owners, one retired professor and a stay at home mom. Our blue dog Matheson has come out against it BUT still he could switch at any time.
On the way home (50 miles) we stopped at a Whole Foods store and bought a bag worth. Pricey place but very nice employees and selection.
Very sage advice Going to an event on 9/5, videocam in hand, but will keep that in mind.
Sorry, I’m too far away but I will support you in spirit!
The rally in my district was less than ten miles away, but I’m only now finding out about it – it was from 11:30AM to 1PM.
8-(
the OKC rally had less than 500 and it wasn’t all that hot…we had one libtard who showed up with a two-sided sign saying “it’s called an option” and “Insurance lobbyists organized this”. When this idiot first showed up he got vocal and stood in front of some seniors blocking their view and a few got into it with him…2 CSP officers showed up quickly and the guy shut up and sat down, stayed for about 20-30 minutes and then left…he was the only one out of 500 or so who protested…not good odds for him….
oh note to staff…the OKC event was organized by the OK Tea Party and the OKC-912 project not the insurance lobby although a couple of doctors did speak against it and the insurance companies…
Happy Birthday to me!
Wanna see my birth certificate?
I’ll show you!
B72,
Happy Birthday!!
I trust you on this one..
Sure, I wanna save. How about we start with removing 25 million illegal aliens from using emergency care services and resources for primary care?>
How about hospitals not providing millions of dollars worth of ongoing dialysis treatments to illegal aliens, thus denying avalability to US ciitzens because the hospital resources are tapped out. Just start right there, sit back after a while and then assess where we are.
Agree with that one…that was repeatedly brought up at the OKC event today!!!
What’s the point of having progress if the people who will benefit most from it – the sick – will be denied?
Some 16×9 HD video clips of the Seattle Recess Rally are now posted at my web-site. They can also be found on YouTube by searching on my CyberCipher moniker.
My collie says:
Ha! cyber, nice going. My question is how the heck would fat, bald loud mouthed guy know anything? It looks like that was the first time he got off the couch in at least 15 years.
The Northern Virginia rally in front of Gerry Connolly’s office in Annandale was pretty well attended, between 75-100 I would guess by looking at my photos. Of course, he and his staff were not there, though they had been invited, so the organzisers did videotaped interviews with participants, allowing them to ask the questions that we would not otherwise be able to. I mean, it is hard to ask someone a question when all of his town halls are in gated communities by invitation only, or are telephonic ones that they will call you to join. Maybe.
I have a report on the Seattle Event w/photos on my blog
http://geobent.blogspot.com/2009/08/no-to-obamacare.html
Great stills!
My collie says:
A blogger, attending a Recess Rally in TX, claims Rep. John Carter (R-TX) stated that the idea of nationalizing ALL pensions into the bankrupt Social Security program is currently being bandied about in Congress. If true, could we march toward pre-1989 East Berlin any faster?
http://jdlong.wordpress.com/2009/08/22/congress-talks-of-nationalizing-all-pensions-into-social-security/
the OKC town hall with Rep Fallin was a packed house in fact it was overflow by about 200 or so.. She went over her time and then ushered the first bunch out and then held a 2nd meeting with those who couldn’t get in the first meeting…what a trooper…Fallin is very much against the bill in its current form and won’t vote for anything with a public option. There was only 1 or two libs in attendance. The one who was even made some rude comment on camera before the meeting started about the seats reserved for the handicapped saying “mentally handicapped” is more like it…dumb idiot…which I would have been there I’d have hit her with my cane in her knee cap…by accident of course…
I support rationing.
I also support rationing home owners insurance to . . . you know . . . the people that purchase it.
