Harry Reid is “on the ropes”

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 23, 2009 10:40 AM

Signs of real Hope and Change from Nevada!

Via the Las Vegas Review-Journal:

It’s the highest stakes ever for a Nevada election, and former boxer Sen. Harry Reid is on the ropes early. Either Republican Danny Tarkanian or Sue Lowden would knock out Reid in a general election, according to a recent poll of Nevada voters.

The results suggest the Democratic Senate majority leader will have to punch hard and often in order to retain his position as the most accomplished politician in state history, in terms of job status.

Nevadans favored Tarkanian over Reid 49 percent to 38 percent and Lowden over Reid 45 percent to 40 percent, according to the poll.

Reid’s status makes him an icon of the Democratic Party and ties him to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and President Barack Obama, both of whom are losing ground among centrist and right-leaning voters in the country.

We could do worse. We have been doing worse for quite some time (the last Republican nominee I would consider better than Romney was the gipper). I do not think Palin will go third party, and unless things change a great deal between now and then I hope she does not, since it would badly split the anti-Obama vote.

We cannot relax for a moment, if we are going to rid ourselves of these people.

Once we rid our selves of these traitors we have to be for ever vigilant that this never happens again. We will not be able to relax, going back to believing in our so called representatives.
After 2010 elections we need keep going in regards to regaining our government as laid out in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Trim the size of givernment, all areas do away with departments serving no purpose other being a refuge for lazy incompetent bureaucrats…such Dept. Of Education(still can’t find that in the Constitution) and the Commerce Dept. Shed the givernment of these agencies, these employees will be needed in private industry after the rules are change so as to make America a bigger, more economically powerful country than is was in the past. These things we can do, and do for the country, which is the American citizenry.
As bleak as it may appear at times I have great faith in the country to come together, putting the left in position they haven’t seen in 70 plus years.

She has announced her run against him.

    Here is Sharron’s web site.

I have volunteered for her since 2006.

Great person. When in the NV Assembly, she was the ONLY member to vote against a tax hike several years ago, and got so much attention that the Governor vetoed it. And it stuck.

Remember, EVERY citizen in the country can donate to her campaign.

HI PASADENA PHIL #26–I agree with you–the SARAH’CUDA (for POTUS) and JOHN BOLTON (for VP) are my choices. They seem like the only real conservative changes in the 2012 arena.
    ***
I was born in Reno, Nevada, and lived there until the U.S. Army drafted me–I became a Texan after completing military service.
    ***
However, Nevada has changed a lot over the years–it was very conservative in the 1950′s–most men served in WW2, Korea, or were drafted into the Vietnam era Army. Not many minorities were in the state–less than 10 percent Black, Hispanic, or Asian then.
    ***
Nevada is a lot more liberal now–there is a very high percentage of Black and Hispanic residents now.
    ***
Most of them sincerely believe that “democratic” / liberal / socialist / statist / marxist / communist President Barack Obama (PBUH) and his congressional minions will provide them better lives through his INCOME REDISTRIBUTION and TAX THE RICH schemes. The CLASS ENVY message is also working quite well there–they do not believe it will “come home” to them.
    ***
Don’t count your conservative “chickens” yet–STUPID DOES AS STUPID IS! And it is still all the EVIL BOOOOOOSH and RICH REPUBLICANS faults. I know a lot of non-minority people who still like the Messiah and are in denial of what will come home to them soon.

“I will go on record right now and say, that we will not have a republican unseat Reid.”

I don’t think I would predict a Republican winning his seat either BUT, if the economy keeps going the way it is and impacting Las Vegas as it has, could be the “power” in SEIU’s power bag will be muted a great deal by the time the election rolls around.

Things are not pretty in Las Vegas.

Now is the time to start searching for details about the various land deals Reid was involved in before he became an important Senator. My recollection is that he was involved in trying to sell, very cheaply, some federal land (bordering Vegas, IIRC), to be converted from a wildlife refuge to tract housing, golf courses, etc. The land selling price was very low. I can;t remember if it happened or not.

Investigate the companies run by his friends. Some of them likely were burned or feel cheated. Also, look into water deals. With low and linking popularity, now is the time for people to talk.

My guess is that with some research, many things will wake up and haunt Reid.

Things are not as the numbers muight suggest either. SEIU has gained clout in this state in the past decade.
The construction trade in southern nevada is suffering, this will take time to work itself out. Nevada is small enough population wise to pick up quickly in even a small economic uptick.

A lot of our voters are retirees, who are active. The people most likely to be affeced by higher unemployment are newer younger transplants, who might not be reliable voters for either party.

If just the status quo exists until 2010,then Reid wins.

For Reid to lose he would have to alienate many more than I believe he has thus far. The liberals will never vote for a republican, the moderates are the key and right now Harry is playing the game of appearing to not appease the wildest eyed libs while quietly appealing to these moderate voters in the middle.

Conservatives like me will not vote for Reid no matter the name on the undercard. It is likely he will be squeezed this time, cost more money than usual to win, but in the end the papers will hail it as a storybook comeback for the native son.

You can see the template being devised now. He will appear the day after the election and say something about having learned a valuable lesson and promise to work harder than ever to regain the trust of Nevadans everywhere.

Politiics, watch enough and listen hard and you can see the set-up and the knockout.

I believe that is the variable that will matter. The degree the status quo is or is not maintained.

When you have huge projects not completed in down town Las Vegas, the rank and file simply have to be hurting. AND moving out of state for work.

It will be interesting to watch.
