The US attorney general is set to name a special prosecutor to probe CIA interrogators suspected of having violated anti-torture laws, US media said Monday.
Eric Holder, America’s top law enforcement official, will name veteran justice department prosecutor John Durham to examine nearly a dozen cases of potential violations, according to the Washington Post.
…Obama has previously ruled that terror interrogators acting on legal guidelines written by the Bush administration after the September 11 attacks in 2001 should not face prosecution.
The buck stops with Obama, except when it’s politically inexpedient:
Leaders at the Justice Department and the intelligence community have clashed this year over the release of sensitive interrogation memos, military photographs of detainee abuse and how to handle the cases of more than 200 detainees at the prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
Holder’s decision could complicate the Justice Department’s relationship with the White House, where President Obama has repeatedly expressed a desire to move forward from the national security controversies of the Bush administration. Deputy White House press secretary Bill Burton told reporters Monday that the president had complete faith in Holder and that the decision whether to launch an investigation was the attorney general’s sole prerogative.
“The White House supports the attorney general making the decisions on who gets prosecuted and investigated,” Burton said.

I remember being “interviewed” by police for an incident of theft at my workplace. He threatened me with my job, my freedom, and my children. It’s a common interrogation method. If it’s OK for US citizens, then it shouldn’t be a problem for terrorists.
Besides, I don’t know how effective it would be anyway. These people only want children in order to blow them up for the cause.

I remember reading about some Soviet diplomats kidnapped in Palestine once. Supposedly instead of negotiating with the terrorists, some of the terror leadership family members turned up murdered. Then the Soviet diplomats were released and that was the last time a Soviet (or Russian)citizen was kidnapped in Palestine.
I’m not sure how true the story was given the Chechnya situation, but wouldn’t surprise me.

the murders of the fathers of the 9/11 children, and
the murders of future parents, resulting in untold numbers of unseen 9/11 victims.
This American has no problem with anything that has been reported about the treatment of KSM. If the White House really wants to politicize the war on terror now I beleive it will come across at a lame attempt to distract us from their other failing efforts. I hope we are at the point where everyone can see through this attempt to pander to the left.

Great, this will come to a head just in time for the 2010 election cycle, putting an exclaimation point on the tag that democrats are soft on terror and national defense.

I’ll take it one further. I think the White House has instructed him to go forward with this and specifically to go forward once Obama was on vacation. I put absolutely nothing past Obama anymore. He’s nothing but a liar so his assurances that he didn’t want to go forward with any investigations, etc are just another pack of lies.
I also don’t believe, for one second, that Holder does anything without Obama’s instructions or, at the very least, blessings. With his czars, Obama has minimalized his cabinet, so they are basically figureheads. Obama strikes me as a micro-manager, which is why no one is ever on the same page in this administration.
The last special prosecutor targeted Scooter Libby as the fall-guy even though he knew before he started the investigation that the culprit who talked about Plame was Richard Armitage, Colin Powell’s deputy at State. Two years and millions of dollars were spent just to have a gotcha moment at the expense of Bush/Cheney.
So who will this next SP target on the front end and then just let the media spin the BS?
In the meantime, our intelligence component is compromised and that puts every American in danger of being the victim of terrorist activity.
We’re not getting any protection against foreign enemies from this administration, and what we need even more, it seems, is protection from our domestic enemies within this administration.

New Obama Interrogation Unit
Al-Qaeda operatives around the world are receiving their Ramadan gift directly from the White House this month. According to the Washington Post, the CIA will no longer be in charge of interrogating suspected terrorists. That responsibility will be given to a new group called the High-Value Detainee Interrogation Group, or HIG, made up of experts from several intelligence and law enforcement agencies. The group will be located at FBI headquarters, but will be monitored at the White House by the National Security Council.
I can imagine jihadists in a cave in Pakistan laughing at the naivety of the Obama Administration and the weak tactics they are going to employ under this interrogation unit. But there’s more.
Interrogators will make decisions about which detainees will be read their “rights” on a case-by-case basis. An unnamed official in the Administration has said the new unit’s goal is to “glean intelligence, especially about potential terrorist attacks.” If this really was its goal, it would take the necessary steps to obtain the vital information needed to protect innocent Americans here and abroad.
The same official went on to say, “It is not going to, certainly, be automatic in any regard that they are going to be Mirandized, nor will it be automatic that they are not Mirandized.” This official obviously understood the backlash the Administration would receive if it admitted that our precious constitutional rights now extend to our most dangerous enemies. But the attempted obfuscation makes it clear that the Obama Administration has reduced the war against Islamic terrorism to a law enforcement issue.
This slimy pig and his entire family can go straight to hell. Meanwhile, our wonderful government is crucifying our loyal, courageous intelligence agents and letting the murderous terrorist scum go free. This country is sick.

You see, you might think that all of America thinks as you do. As conservatives do. Your comment would be right on target if that were true. But people’s minds are different. Liberal’s minds are different. You can go to a conservative website and read the comments on the same exact story that a liberal website posts – and it would look like there were two completely different stories posted.
The democrats also thought (and wrote many articles to the effect) that because of George W Bush, that conservatives would be out of office for 100 years.
