I don't see any problem with him pitching his tent and having a big reception with friendly Washingtonians like McCain, Liberman, Collins, and Graham.

I just think that the addresss -- and, ideally, the coordinates -- of the location need to be public.

Instead of protesting his visit, strap some horns on him and let him run around outside. If Jersey boys don't want him, I am certain that Texans will welcome him warmly, provided that he dresses as described.

The fact is, when President Bush normalized relations with Libya, as a Head of State, Khadafi is entitled to the highest level of visa there is and full Diplomatic protection. He can not be stopped from entering the US unless the State Department revokes his visa. Don't bet the farm (or even a dollar) that this will happen.

It ain't the first time. In our immigration laws, only two people are actually called out by name as barred from entering the USA. One was Adolph Hitler and the other was Yasser Arafat. 'Dolphie did the world a favor by disconnecting himself and Yasser did the opposite by becoming a Head of State. He sat on the white House Lawn and Clinton gave him a gentle back rub because he was entitled to the same visa status that Khadaffi is getting.

The only way to prevent this murderer from entering the US is to revoke the visa. The State Department will not do it because it means they have to close the newly opened US Embassy in Tripoli down. Besides, they like fondling the jewels of our enemies anyway..

Pan Am 103 was taken out in retaliation for the USS Vincennes accidentally shooting down Iranian Air Flight 655 killing 290 people.
Until this post I had always heard that the Lockerbie bombing was retaliation for the bombing of Tripoli and which killed a daughter the Space Cadet Colonel which he did not have until that time! The bombing of Tripoli was retaliatiobn for a night club bombing by Libyan agents which killed US Servicemen.

Both Libya and Iran were provoking US Naval operations at the time so I can say the hell with them. As sad as the USS Vincennes/Iran Air incident was if Iran had not been sending speed boats and air craft to harass our ships it would not have happened. It was better for our people to NOT hesitate and take a chance an Iranian aircraft could fire a missile.

If we can get our heads out of the sand and DRILL HERE, DRILL NOW we can quit that part of the world and let someone else send their young men into harm's way. Minus the oil that whole sandbox is not worth one GI.

Mookie, that sure as heck is interesting…Do you have a theory as to WHY they have met with this nutjob Qaddafi in such a coincidental time frame??

According to a couple of articles I found, they were there to discuss selling non-lethal defense equipment to the Libyan government. Unbelievable.

***
HI FLYOVERMAN #25--interesting comments on the Vicennes incident--the shootdown of the Iranian airliner being the reason for the Lockerbie "payback". What information supports this theory?
***
As someone who worked many years in the Army anti-aircraft / anti-missile testing and simulation areas--there is a lot of room for fatal errors and mistakes when real military action starts. Things happen very fast when a high speed aircraft or a screaming TBM comes your way. Many times no "second chance" to shoot exists due to system reaction time and minimum range limitations.
***
At the time the Iranian airliner was shot down you could hear recordings of the cannons and guns shooting at four (?) Iranian speedboats that were trying to shoot up the Navy--which was probably in Iranian waters. The Captain was probably expecting a U.S.S. Cole suicide bomb type attack. Was he ordered there--or did he move in to this area on his own?
***
When the airliner showed up--even if it properly identified itself on radio and even if the IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) system on the plane gave the right tail number--what should the ship Captain have done? Trust that it was an innocent airliner? Or should he have held fire and taken the chance that it was a massive flying bomb aimed at his ship? The time to make the decision was very short--and the wrong decision--either way--could have been (and was) deadly.
***
In the best Navy tradition the Caption gets lionized when things work out well--and pilloried when the mistake is made--he is always at fault. A really tough situation to be in.

Frankly, the left doesn't care whether or not Khadaffi shows up or not. They don't.

They love terrorists. They adore them. They welcome them.

They could care less about the dead because, after all, President Reagan was in office then, and, as with BDS, deep down, they blame President Reagan.

They're using this as political capital. Nothing more.

Since that Libyan estate is owned by the government and the Lockerbie bombing was sanctioned by the Libyan government, why don’t we seize it, sell it and award the proceeds to the Lockerbie victims? We can pitch a ceremonial tent over it while it is being fumigated for vermin.

great idea...maybe some lawyer can help the victims families start a suit doing exactly that....

The Vincennes incident for me was perfectly understandable. Once in a training exercise after being subjected to many of the things that ship went through, as an Air Defense officer, I acquired, locked up, and blew an inbound simulated aircraft right out of the sky.

When they replayed the exercise I came to realize I had shot down a Luftansa airliner. I never forgot that.

Our mistake does not justify what Libya did. The bomber was a Libyan intell officer; a member of their military. For an operation that major in that society who had to give the order? Yep, same guy coming to visit.
