Culture of corruption: Rangel edition

When he’s not race-baiting, he’s tax-evading and excuse-making.
And always getting away with it.
The latest? He “forgot” to disclose between $500,000 and $1 million in unreported wealth.
Meticulous Man of the People:
Rep. Charles Rangel failed to report as much as $1.3 million in outside income — including up to $1 million for a Harlem building sale — on financial-disclosure forms he filed between 2002 and 2006, according to newly amended records.
The documents also show the embattled chairman of the Ways and Means Committee — who is being probed by the House Ethics Committee — failed to reveal a staggering $3 million in various business transactions over the same period.
This week, Rangel filed drastically revised financial-disclosure forms reflecting new, higher amounts of outside income and numerous additional business deals that had not been reported when the reports were originally filed.
In 2004, for instance, Rangel reported earning between $4,000 and $10,000 in outside earnings on top of his $158,100 congressional salary.
But the amended filings show that after the sale of a property on West 132nd Street, his outside income that year was somewhere between $118,000 and $1.04 million.

That can only add to the woes of a lawmaker who is already being investigated for failing to pay taxes on property in the Dominican Republic, for maintaining multiple rent-controlled apartments in New York City and for questions about his use of official letterhead in building support for an education center named for him at the City College of New York.
Hey, why hasn’t Team Obama nominated this unrepentant tax cheat for a Cabinet or czar position yet?

I predict he will get re-elected in a landslide.
Sheeple.
Michelle, you are getting material so fast, you’ll have to put together another book very quickly. “Culture of Corruption 2″.
The hits just keep on coming.
Given who is in charge, anyone want to bet what the consequences of his reprehensible actions will be?
How insane is this? Rangel is a felon. Just not convicted yet. Why the hell aren’t republicans making the same noise about this that Democrats did for anything and EVERYTHING a republican may have done.
His crimes are DOCUMENTED. What’s the friggin problem here?
Ethics Committee???
Please…
Try a Grand Jury. Oh yeah… Holder would probably just dismiss the charges.
The guy needs to be prison.
Along with Dodd, the New Black Panther thugs, Richardson and Obama… for being the ring leader.
When you sign these forms it says that you believe the above statement is correct to the best of your knowledge under the penalty of perjury. The amendment is to change what you have previously stated for corrections that are an honest oversight. Somehow I do not see how you can overlook between $118,000 and $1.04 million and call it an honest mistake.
will be reelected of course, consider who votes for this shameless piece of crap. rangel isn’t even good enough to use as butt wipe.
And too many of us are worried about Gov Sanford keeping his pants on!!!
Rangel understands a fundamental principle.
It is so much better to be a senator than any other job in the world.
He gets to hang out in an exclusive club all day every day.
No matter what he and his fellow senators do they get all the benefuts and almost none of the criticism that matters.
That criticisim is largely reserved for the president. The congress always gets away with the crime. The president is always their scapegoat.
Sometimes warranted sometimes not. It dosen’t matter. To a senator.
If you want real change in washngton send these life long drains on the public home.
I have a suggestion…
Pick 5 senators.
My list is Reid, Schumer, Boxer, Leahy, Dorgan. These 5 all have uncoming elections in 2010.
Dedicate to spend ..Time .. Effort .. and Capital .. to the sole purpose defeating them in 2010.
Your list may vary, but pick as many as you can reasonably afford. This list is of course in addition to the senators in your own state. Of course your own state comes first. But if you can, dedicate yourself to do as much as you reasonably can.
If everyone will do this, we can create real change. Not the kind obama is selling.
You are all very racist to even mention this.
*snerk
Yes, but haven’t all of us forgotten $1.3 million in income? Hey, it could happen to anyone…LOL
Yeah. I realize this may appear to be making light of this issue but…
Imagine Rangel in front of Judge Judy. Do you think she would believe for a second that he’s not full of $–t???
I know she’s a TV judge, but that’s the sort of scrutiny that needs to be applied to people like Rangel. They are not entitled to the benefit of a doubt. Just bang the gavel, collect the fines and toss them in jail.
If they all knew that was what was in store for them, you’d less of Rangel’s BS.
This is what happens when you have an entrenched political class who believe that they are above the rules that they themselves have written for the ‘little people’.
I wish I could keep the money I earned and tell the IRS to mind it’s own GD business.
C.R.A.P.W.E.A.S.E.L.E.X.T.R.A.O.R.D.I.N.A.I.R.E.
If Rangel keeps this up, then think of the motorcade he’ll get when he finally passes.
It seems to me that being able to use a spread of $900,000 is a bit lenient to say the least. Try that with any government form you fill out. “Oh I make somewhere between $5 and $1,000,000 per year.” Well I guess if your filed you tax return that way, the IRS would go with the higher number.
The range should be no more than $100 for any elected official disclosure form.
And Charlie Rangel is Term Limit poster boy. Two terms. . . one office, one in jail.
rangel is a congressman, not a senator.
You know, hey could give us all a tax break if democrats would only pay their “fair share” and be “patriotic Americans”.
The obama administration, the most corrupt, inept, anti American and socialist in American history.
Yes I know that, however while I meant to use him as jumping in point, I did not call him out correctly.
Why hasn’t this investigation been dropped? Does Holder know about this?
No worries, he’s not with the C.I.A. so Odopey will not punish him.
Another point I would like make this morning concerns Shelley Berkeley, Dem congresswoman from Nevada.
I was listening in on her telephone town hall last night and again she pointed out that she voted to accept the same public option plan as she is asking the people of Nevada to accept.
You know the question, “If it so good, will you go on the same plan?”
And so far when asked, congressmen have responded as expected. “NO”
Well her schtick is different. She says “Yes and I voted to do just that!”
True but she knows 2 things. One it is a safe vote, congress will never as a body agree to that, and two, her husband is a practicing doctor ,and her daughter is also.
So while she says one thing, the truth is she will never have to wait in line under any policy. Or pay, as all she has to do is roll over and tell her husband or call her daughter to see a doctor.
Facts not fantasy.
Actually, a monthly magazine would work. Van Jones could be Miss August.
And yet Obama is beating confessions from Swiss banks. Maybe Hussein should be looking closer to home, like in his own party.
Ah, to be Almost Young, Gifted (frequently) and a member of the Black Congressional Caucus….it’s like getting that “Get out of Jail Free – and Rich!” card on the Monopoly board.
Well, in Rep. Rangle’s defense, I, too, have often forgotten about that checking account I have with $250,000 sitting in it. After all, my wife does the checkbook and I can’t be expected to have to know everything that goes on.
The other Elephant in the Room is how a career “public servant” with a salary of $150K per year is somehow worth millions of dollars, enough so that he has between 250 -500K just sitting around in a checking account, or investments in buildings, etc. that just magically pay off and earn him a boatload of money. I suppose, like Hillary and her $100K commodities windfall, Rangle is just….lucky.
Uh oh. That’s how she likes to play it, huh?
Joe the Plumber was practically run out of the country because he owed a small amount of back taxes. But Chowie Wangow gets a pass. Gag. This crap has got to stop.
He will simply scream racism until “the man” backs off. As a black poltiician, he is untouchable. Nothing will come of this. In fact, his wonderful constituents will see this a just another black man being persecuted by “the man” (ie white man, not obummer) and will re-elect him in a landslide. Idiots don’t realize that corruption is poison to a functioning government. Yea, I know. I’m a racist. So what.
With Obama in the White House and Holder as AG who is going to charge him with anything?
Bingo, every senior Democrat is likely untouchable.
Are you sure he wasn’t trying to get a spot in Duh Ones Cabinet?
He finds a million bucks lying around that he forgot about.
Gee. My wife and I are happy to find a dollar lying around that we forgot about. Must be nice to be a filthy rich liberal.
It is a sad commentary on the state of civil rights in this country when we are afraid to accuse someone of wrongdoing on the basis of their skin color and the inevitability of being called the usual tirade of liberal rants.
Slap the cuffs on this fat toad.
Are we going to be able to use the Geithner or Rangel precedents if we “forget” to report income to the IRS?
***
HI DARWIN AKBAR #24. Great question–how did our 535 “representatives” of both houses of Congress get so rich on their salaries?
***
How did Bill and Hillary Clinton go from poor as church mouse Arkansas politicians to having a net worth of over $113 million? How did Richard Nixon (formerly the most crooked president–until now) pay less income taxes on his $250,000 presidential salary than I did as a $20,000 a year engineer?
***
You don’t think it could be by SELLING OUT THE AMERICAN TAXPAYERS they “represent” as they get rich at our expense? Check their freezers to see if there are any William Jefferson (D-rep–LA)”cold cash” packages stashed away.
***
TERM LIMITS for all. And they should get the same “touchy–feely” IRS treatment us peons get.

a bit off topic, but a new movie is opening about that racist Pfleger.
Paying taxes is just for the little people to pay and for the elites to spend foolishly.
Am I mistaken, or does Rangel hold the Adam Clayton Powell seat in Congress?
If not literally, certainly in spirit…
True story,
Years ago when I was working in the Organized Crime Control Bureau, we obtained a court ordered wiretap on a local politician. In a number of monitored calls, he ranted about why he had not been given the state job he wanted. A certain rather-well-known politician told him that he could not get him that particular job because another more senior politico had grabbed it for a relative, but offered him another. His reply was he would gladly take the offered job because he could more than quadruple his state salary with some creative deal making. I guess we can figure out what kinds of deals he was referring to. The grand jury certainly did when we broke the case later.
The voters know he is a crook-but he is a flamboyant crook, rubs peoples nose in it so he is loved. The same city knew Al Sharpton was lying in the Tawny Brawly case and loved it.
The politics of racial animosity, corruption and vulgarity is so entrenched that even this does not suprise:

Bomb threats phoned in to police in New York City on Sept. 11
6
Looting arrests in New York City on Sept. 11; by Oct. 11, 54 more had been made
Maxine Waters from Los Angeles
Bobby Rush from Chicago
Sheila Jackson-Lee from Texas
Jesse Jackson Jr.-Chicago-again
John Lewis-Georgia
Race baiters all-powerful race baiters
Sorry Rodney-no we can not all get along, not just now, not with the race grievance industry in high gear and controlling the White House. You Typical White People have a problem.
And Pfleger needs a flogging

114* in Phoenix today so there ain’t no outside except the pool.
It’s also the benefit package which needs to change. There should be no retirement plan or medical insurance for any elected official after leaving office. They were supposed to come from the private sector and return to the private sector. Now, once they enter the system, their party ensures that they stay in some publicly funded job and that their relatives are able to take up where they left off. In essence, once elected, they serve for life all the while, ruining our lives with higher taxes, irresponsible spending and crushing debt. They should be fired and left broke. Instead, they can charge lots of money to make speeches about how important they are. We need to get this changed.
Like the Richardson pay for play and the Black Panther voter intimidation investigations, it will suddenly be dropped with no explanation.
The Democrats are truly the Culture of Corruption and the Obama Administration has accumulated enough failures in 7 months to be called “Obama’s failed policies” – something that supposedly took Bush 8 years to accomplish according to the libs.

What a total crock! That is 28 years. I know priests that have been at the same parish longer than that and still have the socks they brought with them when they came. Ebert gave Michael Moore two thumbs up too. I know where he should put those two thumbs! Just needs to pull his head out first.
Rangel is scum (no offense intended toward pond, or other scum).
I am very tired of these abusers in the capital. They prey upon us, use us, tax us into poverty, and then take a ***t on us, and then state how well they take care of us. All the while stealing and enriching themselfs. I have grown to hate these people.
If your family was abused by anyone else like this, you could make a solid case of self defense, and no jury would convict you. Many need to be jailed, and if there is any justice this needs t happen, or the rage will continue until it all boils over and there is hell to pay! I’m ready!!!!
BUT I JUST FORGOT I SOLD THAT BUILDING. I NEED A DEAL ON MY PENALTY AND INTEREST MR IRS ACCOUNTANT. I’M A CONGRESSMAN.
I thought he was the evil Cardinal Richelieu in The Three Musketeers.
Didn’t Steve Martin have a stand-up routine to that effect many years ago?
Sorry, one does not “forget” sums like that. Even a billionaire would not be so lackadaisical with $500,000 – attention to financial detail is one of the earmarks of becoming so wealthy.
No, there are but two possibilities:
1. Rangel is absent-minded to the point of accelerated Alzheimer’s or something; or
2. He got busted trying to hide assets from the taxman.
Which seems more likely? Either way, he’s got no business lording over the same committee that drafts the tax code.
Speaking of taxes, but off topic (sorry)…Who knew that the cash rebate for clunkers is taxable income? Probably no one who actually took advantage of the program. So, they turned in a perfectly good, driveable car that was probably paid for, in exchange for $3,000-$4,500 which will now be taxed. And in addition, they now have car payments again. Nice program. And many of the people who took advantage of it are just the ones who can least afford being screwed like this by their government. I think buyer’s remorse doesn’t even begin to describe what these people are starting to feel.
Wait a week. The DoJ will make this all go away.
We’re not racists. We’re the mob.

Ms. Malkin,
Please do a culture of corruption thread on Henry Waxman. I was accosted at his “townhall” yesterday without provocation, and Waxman’s people targeted Republicans in the audience for abuse, unless the hotel manager acted independently (yeah right).

“The American people voted to restore integrity and honesty in Washington, D.C., and the Democrats intend to lead the most honest, most open and most ethical Congress in history…” – nancy Pelosi, 2006.
—I don’t think I really need to say anything else. Just read Michelle’s book and you’ll have an idea of just how ethical the Democrats really are.
I think it’s safe to say that Rangel reflects the beliefs of his mostly black constituents. Having said that, he will continue to be their representative, due to “ethnic allegiance”, regardless of proveable wrong-doing.
The New York residents who believe “the man” owes them, see no problem with one of their own gaming the system… cheating, lying, misrepresenting…it’s in their culture. He is their perfect choice…except for his hair, he looks, and acts like one of them.
A true Harlem Hero…fighter for freedom (from obeying laws you don’t like), tax equality (in redistribution), affordable housing (affordable, meaning someone else pays for it), and justice (meaning black citizens can do and say anything they want, steal anything they want, and cannot be held legally liable…because the “white” slave owner owes them.)
The problem I see with an elected representative, who also happen to be black, Hispanic, female, or a combination of the three, is that it becomes politically incorrect to speak out against them when evidence surfaces pointing to illegality. That needs to stop.
A crook is a crook regardless of race, sex, or political affiliation. It is paramount for American patriots to elect honest people to represent them. That may be the only way to enforce laws, and oust members of Congress who keep getting re-elected despite a history of unethical, racist, and/or illegal behavior. It comes down to basics:
Country First!
Update: Seth Horowitz of the Luxe Hotel just called me and was very belligerent. He insisted that Congressman Waxman did not give the order to target me. When I asked if Congressman Waxman’s people gave the order, he clammed up. He said he did i…t based on my behavior. I asked him “what behavior?” He would not answer. He is hiding behind his lawyers.
eric aka the Tygrrrr Express
Geez, and I sweated bullets this year wondering if I could get away with not reporting $300 I received from a little writing on the side. I guess I should not worry when such an honest guy like Rangel forgets about a measly million!
blacktygrrrr
It sounds as though this peaceful, freedom loving, free speech avocate of the left, Horowitz, needs to be confronted with a news camera, and questions he will NOT answer.
Rest assured, when the heat is turned up on this type of thug, their first resort is force, the second being their lawyer…we need to hold these viruses accountable. Good luck with getting coverage on this, and thanks for reporting the episodes.
I find it terribly disturbing that for decades, there has been an underground economy that uses only cash transactions, or plies a barter system to escape the tax code, yet these same people express unbridled support for the Masters of Taxation, the Democrat Party, now also known as the Communuts Party USA.
Do you realize how much money they will spend to penalize you for a paltry $300 (that I know you reported
)?
Right on…
Thank you…but I want to emphasize that I do not have evidence that Waxman ordered this. He may have a couple of overzealous staffers. He deserves the benefit of the doubt for no other reason than I do not want egg on my face if I am wrong. However, why would a hotel manager do this on his own?
I will get to the truth while they circle the wagons.
eric aka the Tygrrrr Express
P.S. He accused me today of trying to get money out of the hotel. I told an executive secretary that I have zero interest in suing the hotel. I want an apology and an explanation.
Tygrrrr
I appreciate your willingness to give him the benefit of the doubt, and understand your personal concerns, however, the days of me giving these thieving thugs the B.O.D., are gone.
That courtesy has gone the way of political correctness, and innumerable second chances.
But that’s just me. These morons have had decades to get their acts together, but all we get is the same tired rhetoric, accusations, and backroom deal-making that only results in higher taxes. They have nothing to show for their mis-representations, but increased entitilement rolls, indebtedness, and flagrant dishonesty. No more!
When the average person knows that most, if not all policians are corrupt and don’t pay their taxes, then the average person believes that to keep reporting taxable income is only for fools. Then you get a huge underground economy that is so common to third world countries. When 50 million stop paying property taxes, the counties are overwhelmed and anarchy reigns. Anybody with any sense knows we should stop looking at France, Canada or the UK as our future and acknowledge that our future is Argentina or Brazil.
NOW YOU CAN DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS!!!
REPORT THIS TO THE FBI and the IRS!!!
Seriously…
Send them the links to news stories and demand action!!!
Send in a report of tax fraud to the IRS and the FBI.
They have tip lines at these links:
Michelle – URGENT request:
Please add a 5-inch, 3-ring binder to all future editions of “Culture of Corruption”.
Even you can’t write fast enough to keep your book current – it will be much easier to just print out your daily (HOURLY??) posts on this subject, punch the sheets and add it to the ever-growing pile.
Or am I a bitter American clinging to my God and guns or typical semi-white person? It is getting all so confusing I can’t keep up! If only I were a CongressCritter the abuse I could avoid, the taxes not paid.
(sarcasm alert)
This is just more racism from MM! She chooses to highlight this personal financial corruption just because it is an endemic feature of black political culture.
She knows very well that big cats like Rangel are entitled to wet their beaks…whitey been doing it forever in this country. Heck, this will enhance his street cred.
If he was jes stealin’ on Wall Street like all dem Jews be doin’ all da time…nobody be sayin’ nuttin’ ’bout it.
Where in hell is the justice in all this? Demmocrats , especially BLACK Democrats, seem to REVEL in not only breaking the law but in FLAUNTING it.
Why are not these people in jail? WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE!
I am from SC and although Sanford is an embarrasment, Ido not want him to step down in light of the corrupt criminal thugs we have in Congress. Sanford is a saint compared to these gangstas.
