The Scottish government told FOX News Tuesday that the U.S. government refuses to allow them to release details of any communication between Scotland and the U.S. over al-Megrahi’s release.

The Scottish Government acted unilatterly to release the terrorist Megrahi, and they are now going to bow to the US about releasing letters? Maybe the Scottish Government would not release the letters recieved from the US, but they could certainly release the letters they sent to the US.

Anytime I hear anonymous, I become skeptical.

And Michelle can go ahead and use the “decriminalization of terrorism” phrase as she likes.

I guess what I’m asking is, can Scotland make agreements with foreign governments. Wouldn’t any such agreement have to come from London?

My understanding is that the Scottish Assembly has (the euphemistically
named) tax varying powers amongst other minor responsibilities but London still deals with foreign policy (Downing Street controls all the Scottish regiments of the British Army); however, Scot’s law is separate (and different) from England therefore the Scottish Executive would not require London’s permission to release Megrahi but it’s always possible for there to have been some kind of deal. Jack Straw (a most appropriate surname!), the UK Justice Minister, changed his mind about the release of Megrahi due to a major oil deal that was being discussed at the time!

…if The GOP (Real ones, not the McCain, Graham fake ones)…gets any power back..it is going to be one hell of a mess to dig through and pour sunlight upon.
