Hands off my health care. Teeth off my hands.

By Michelle Malkin  •  September 3, 2009 01:15 PM

rabid

When the story broke last night about a health care town hall scuffle in Thousand Oaks, Calif., that left one person without a part of his finger, it wasn’t clear who bit whom.

MoveOn activists were involved and their accounts colored much of the early coverage.

It now appears that the biter was an Obamacare supporter and the victim was an Obamacare foe.

Thankfully, doctors were able to reattach the severed digit.

No need to imagine the horrified fulminations from the White House to the New York Times to MSNBC if it had been the other way around.

Ed Morrissey looks at the mayhem and the possible charges that both the biter and the bitee (who reportedly threw a punch) might face.

Bob Owens rewrites the Obama-bots’ new motto: “Yes, We Can(nibal)!”

Opponents of socialized medicine must also adjust their chants:

Hands off my health care…and teeth off my hands!

***

Afterthought: President Obama has been telling Americans to make sure they get their shots.

Now, we know why!

***

Old saying: If you point a finger, three point back at you.

New saying in the Age of Obama: If you point a finger, you might not get it back.

***

Remember: Under Obamacare, the health care protester’s finger would not have been re-attached.

Dr. O’s prescription: Take a pill.

Mark Steyn is subbing for Rush today and had a caller who was at this event and saw the whole thing. He said the bitter was ‘for’ and the older man was ‘against’ the health care bill. The caller said the bitter seemed to go for this older man and then the issue happened. The caller saw the blood and saw the older man leaving. He saw the finger was missing. The caller then started looking for the finger and found it in the road and went looking for the older man. He couldn’t find him. He went to the closest hospital and asked if someone had come in with a finger missing, they said yes, and he gave the finger to them to re-attach.

The Democrats’ plan would require all Americans to have “acceptable” insurance coverage (the legislation includes long and complex definitions of “acceptable”) and would designate the IRS as the agency charged with enforcing that requirement. On your yearly 1040 tax return, you would be required to attest that you have “acceptable” coverage. Of course, you might be lying, or simply confused about whether or not you are covered, so the IRS would need a way to check your claim for accuracy. Under current plans, insurers would be required to submit to the IRS something like the 1099 form in which taxpayers report outside income. The IRS would then check the information it receives from the insurers against what you have submitted on your tax form.

If it all matches up, you’re fine. If it doesn’t, you will hear from the IRS. And if you don’t have “acceptable” coverage, you will be subject to substantial fines — fines that will be administered by the IRS.

    Complete story

Actually, this is probably the most efficient way to handle monitoring and redistribution in any plan, including one that would offer credits or other payments to low income individuals, if health insurance is to be mandated in any plan, conservative or liberal. It’s currently how the government redistributes income through earned income credit, 1st time homebuyer credit, etc.. Cuts down on the need for new departments and czars.

It apparently happened so fast, witnesses were more concerned with the man and finding the finger. The caller said he walked through the crowd after taking the finger to the hospital, with a police officer, to try and find the attacker.

Your original post rather out-rightly suggested the biting victim had been taught a lesson by the biter as retribution for a punch that may or may not have been thrown first.

I just saw this story. What man goes and picks out a 65 yo man to confront? Not much of a man in my book. Gets close to him, that is call for a punch, when someone enters your personal space screaming, probably quite shrill as well. Then fights this 65 yo and probably was losing, the reason why he would bite and run. Are they sure it was not a real butch code pink gal?

I can hear the crying now if the roles were reversed. Liberals, is there any double standard that you do not love?

Yeah, we had an election and the people chose their President. It was more the absolutist argument of “never” that I was pointing out. Most people condone a certain amount of violence depending on the circumstances.

The circumstances in this case are rather muddy. It’s not real clear who hit who first yet. I’m guessing the senior pushed the guy away from him when he invaded his personal space. I agree that the physical fight is silly, but if the man crossed the street to get that close to the man, I’m skeptical that a physical altercation wasn’t exactly what he desired.

No matter how you look at this, though, biting his finger off was an extreme and unwarranted escalation for something like this. The perpetrator admits as much by fleeing the scene.

I thought your initial comment suggested an approval of that action based on being punched in the face (even though it’s not clear that happened).

I apologize if I misread your intent.

I don’t condone violence but its only human to be amused when it’s so bizarre and quite stupid.

Yep, so much so that there’s a term for it: Schadenfreude. However, I thought that an absolute stance against violence was ironic when contrasted against that schadenfreude.

In reality it will never happen. But, I’m not sure how that would make me condoning violence of others that I could never stop in the first place?

Um… You said “hurry up and fight it out… so [we] can bury you”. If you don’t see that as condoning violence (so long as you’re excluded), perhaps we’ll have to agree to disagree. I thought it was comically ironic. :)

umm, he is doing exactly what the people who elected him wanted him to do.
In fact, they aren’t happy with him currently because he hasn’t delivered on some things he promised. Maybe you missed his entire campaign? I guess abuse of power is a partisan viewpoint.

Anyway, carry on with the revolution.

No, abuse of power is just that, abuse. Clinton was impeached for it, as was Nixon. As I said, one had the decency and humility to resign rather than drag the whole country through the muck.

I didn’t vote for Obama (DUH!) but it is his unconstitutional actions (running corporations, appointing people without Senate approval or checks and balances to shove stuff down our throats, etc, etc) that is raising my ire.

If you want to sit back and accept it with those who also voted him in, so be it. I, on the other hand, will not sit quietly and allow my country to be changed into something it was never intended to be by the Founding Fathers.
