Dr. Williams is on right now sitting in for Rush. He brought up Madison and Jefferson in regard to the "General Welfare Clause" and that got me thinking...

Madison wrote that it ought to be obvious that the construction in Article 1, Section 8, was one whereby the general statement, punctuated by a semicolons, is then followed by the specifics detailing what elements describe that 'general welfare'.

So 'general welfare' is not some ~open~ clause, it is completely bounded by the specifications that follow it.

To suggest otherwise, that Congress can just add whatever it wishes to that list, INVALIDATES THE FUNDAMENTAL PURPOSE OF THE CONSTITUTION ITSELF - TO LIMIT GOVERNMENT ...not offer up suggestions for more ways federal government can take control away from the people and the states.

So, going back to Dr. Williams, yes this health care bill IS unconstitutional and it's about time we all start defending our Constitution while we still can.

If HR3200 or any of its clones are not Constitutional then NONE of the other particulars in it should be of any consequence to anyone.

Are all gun owners second amendment freaks, lgm?

So far only you have defended this action as somehow being noble through a convoluted tu quoque defense. The biter didn't think it was so noble. He ran away.

If someone bit my finger off, I wouldn't need a fire arm to be lethal. Your argument is a joke, particularly in light of the fact that worst violence thus far has been from the left and not the "2nd amendment freaks". The biter took advantage of the fact that the victim was 65 years old. Who fights like that?

Red State Skeptic expressed shame of this behavior. Are you seriously going to make this attempt to justify it?

I heard tonight on radio or TV but haven’t found the true source of the source of the story yet- that UK healthcare is with holding treatment- fluids being one to help people there die quicker. Does anyone seen news sources yet of this story?

Mark Steyn subbing for Rush Limbaugh did a segment on it today. But they use heavy sedation to keep the peasants quiet. We can not give these people that much power over us.

Paneled to Death [Mark Steyn]

From the Daily Telegraph:

Patients with terminal illnesses are being made to die prematurely under an NHS scheme to help end their lives, leading doctors warn today.

In a letter to The Daily Telegraph, a group of experts who care for the terminally ill claim that some patients are being wrongly judged as close to death.

Under NHS guidance introduced across England to help doctors and medical staff deal with dying patients, they can then have fluid and drugs withdrawn and many are put on continuous sedation until they pass away.

Sarah Palin got it right on the "death panel" business, and finnicky conservative critics missed the point: Governmentalization of health care leads to rationing, and rationing leads to death panels — very literally.

Unfortunately, according to this story, the doctors were not able to reattach it since it was removed because of a human bite.

Prolly something to do with infection or something.

From what my friends and relatives in the medical profession tell me, human bites are among some of the worse as far as infection goes.

No need to wonder which character LGM identifies more with in the novel 1984.
...Winston did not speak for another moment or two. A feeling of weariness had overwhelmed him. The faint, mad gleam of enthusiasm had come back into O'Brien's face. He knew in advance what O'Brien would say: that the Party did not seek power for its own ends, but only for the good of the majority. That it sought power because men in the mass were frail, cowardly creatures who could not endure liberty or face the truth, and must be ruled over and systematically deceived by others who were stronger than themselves. That the choice for mankind lay between freedom and happiness, and that, for the great bulk of mankind, happiness was better. That the Party was the eternal guardian of the weak, a dedicated sect doing evil that good might come, sacrificing its own happiness to that of others. The terrible thing was that when O'Brien said this he would believe it. You could see it in his face. O'Brien knew everything. A thousand times better than Winston, he knew what the world was really like, in what degradation the mass of human beings lived and by what lies and barbarities the Party kept them there. He had understood it all, weighed it all, and it made no difference: all was justified by the ultimate purpose. What can you do, thought Winston, against the lunatic who is more intelligent than yourself, who gives your arguments a fair hearing and then simply persists in his lunacy?
