Many people don’t realize that there is a nationwide lightning strike locating and reporting system that records the location, time, and intensity of all lightning hits. It operates on time of arrival differences at different antenna locations that receive the radio wave caused by lightning.

If this system does not report lightning–it gets called a man caused event. A lot of non-arson events can cause fires also. Stove, vehicle, friction, electric sparks can do this. The old 1 gallon glass jugs had a convex bottom that could ignite pine needles under the jug and start a fire.

That part of Southern California is a semi-desert area, so hot dry weather is normal. My mother still lives in the house I grew up in, near those cities. She is a died-in-the-wool envirnmentalist, and even she doesn’t believe global warming started or fueled those fires.

Southern California has had fires of this scale every few years for the six decades that I remember. They used to blame fire.

unfortunately many of these forest fires are started by transigent fire fighters looking for work. a suggestion is to polygraph all firefighters to see which have started fires in the past. i know, racial or someother profiling. but if you pay people to have bastard children, they do that, and if you pay people to fight fires, some might just start them when they need some extra cash.
