Huffington Post exploits AP’s dying Marine photo
What’s more shameless than the Associated Press defying the wishes of a dying Marine’s family and splashing his bloody body all over the wires?
Why, the Huffington Post reprinting a massively large version of the image on its front page with an accompanying blog commentary praising the AP photographer’s work as “tasteful” — along with thousands of comments praising the decision and calling for even more bloody US troop photos to be published.

I comment on Huff Poo. They’re just plain weird. When they talk about Duh One they sound like a teenager talking about their first crush.
I think this is beyond tasteless. It is cruel (dare I say “torture”?)to the family who requested that it not be published.

If I were in this soldiers unit, the photogs camera would be collateral damage.

During WW2, the press posted photos of dead marines also. The most remembered was Tarawa, I believe. There were also movies clips of soldiers getting hit. Again, the most remembered was Utah Beach. I always wondered who that soldier was, who was hit. The MSM today, has a different agenda. It’s for explotation of their anti-Bush platform, without concern for the relatives of this marine. That makes it particularly disgusting. Also, our culture has changed since the 40s, in regards to warfare, promoted by our antiwar MSM. Vietnam was a prime example. Nowadays if some civilians get killed, a congressional investigation follows…for political gain, of course. If the family didn’t want the picture published, the MSM had a moral obligation to not show it. Isn’t that contradictory? MSM and moral obligation?

A marine unit should specifically ask for this photographer to accompany them on a mission deep in the heart of the country, far away from any main or firebase. Promise him good photo opportunities. Take him out and then forget to have him with them when they return to base. Let him make it back on his own.

Wasn’t AP involved in sitting on the story of the journalist who was taken hostage for months? Where was the journalistic good then that required immediate publication?
Also, why are the press now suddenly running stories about how the “American people are tired of the war” in Af’stan? I thought that was the only true war that should have been fought all along? Now suddenly the left wants us out of there.
AP has sent out another article on this….trying to justify it now by claiming to have received emails from former military members praising them for posting the picture.

When the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan a local College Professor predicted all this-the Soviet Union’s defeat and right up to us being there.
His point is that the only time those tribes think of themselves as Afghan is when invaded-be by infidels, other muslims, anybody. Then they fight. Lacking foreign invaders they fight the tribe in the next valley.The Afghan’s are tribal-there loyalty is to family, clan, tribe, language. The tribal elders say plant, they plant, hunt they hunt, attack the next valley and so on. Give them western style democracy? The tribal elders say plant, they plant. Afghanistan was old before we were new.
After we defeated the Taliban we should have left those people to their own devices. They wanted the Taliban out-once done those warrior people could have dealt with it.

It burns me how the U.S. has to kowtow to “angry Afghans” over any collateral damage caused by our fight to save their butts from mad fanatics. For me, the most frustrating thing about it is how unserious or totally clueless Afghans are about civil rights and freedoms. The party that has the mega-most to lose if the Taliban gets its way are all the women and girls over there. I think if they had ANY idea of the kinds of freedoms Western woman enjoy, the Taliban would have a hard time calling any place safe over there. God, enlightened Afghan women would be the best fifth column our military could wish for over there! So where is N.O.W. and all these self-righteous feminist and womens groups? The next time a journalist gets blown up in Iraq or Afghanistan, I demand that a picture be taken and published around the world so we can “explore the grim reality” of journalists in war. From the NYT publishing national security secrets to garbage like this, the media are at war with their country, using our brave soldiers as propaganda to further their agenda. This is beyond sick and just makes me downright angry.
My oldest has just 4 weeks left of basic training at MCRD San Diego. He just missed an NROTC scholorship, but was accepted to 3 major universities. I told him we would find a way to pay for his college.

John, my Son is planning an engineering degree as a matter of fact. He will be heading to Pensacola for a year of aviation after combat training, and is looking for every opportunity for education now and in the future. I could not possibly be more proud of him, and all of our men and women in uniform for that matter.
That is the reason this thread strikes a chord with me. We owe a debt that cannot possibly be paid, yet the AP chooses this. I am saddened, but more determined than ever to do what I can to support these young men and women in every way possible.
And you have every reason to be proud. Freedom, even for scum in the AP, was defended only through the blood sacrifice of soldiers, like your son, throughout our history. This is why I consider the decision of the AP so elitist, cruel, selfish, even traitorous. These people have no class or respect.
