Why parents don’t trust the Educator-in-Chief and his comrades

They think we’re crazy. “They” are the sneering defenders of Barack Obama who can’t fathom the backlash against the president’s nationwide speech to schoolchildren next Tuesday. “We” are parents with eyes wide open to the potential for politicized abuse in America’s classrooms.
Ask moms and dads in Farmington, Utah, who discovered this week that their children sat through a Hollywood propaganda video promoting the cult of Obama. In the clip, a parade of entertainers vow to flush their toilets less, buy hybrid vehicles, end poverty and world hunger, and commit to “service” for “change.” Actress Demi Moore leads the glitterati in a collective promise “to be a servant to our president.” Musician Anthony Kiedis pledges “to be of service to Barack Obama.”
The campaign commercial crescendos with the stars and starlets asking their audience: “What’s your pledge?”
This same “Do Something” ethos infected the U.S. Department of Education teachers’ guides accompanying the announcement of Obama’s speech – until late Wednesday, that is, when the White House removed some of the activist language exhorting students to come up with ways to “help the president.” Education Secretary Arne Duncan had disseminated the material directly to principals across the country – circumventing elected school board members and superintendents now facing neighborhood revolts.
O’s bureaucrats can whitewash offending language from the Sept. 8 speech-related documents, but they can’t remove the taint of left-wing radicalism that informs Obama and his education mentors. A spokesman maintained that the speech is “about the value of education and the importance of staying in school as part of his effort to dramatically cut the dropout rate.” But the historical subtext is far less innocent.
Obama served with Weather Underground terrorist and neighbor Bill Ayers on the Chicago Annenberg Challenge education initiative. Downplaying academic achievement in favor of left-wing radical activism in the public schools is rooted in Bill Ayers’ pedagogical philosophy. Obama served as the program’s first chairman of the board, while Ayers steered its curricular policy. The two oversaw grants to welfare rights enterprise ACORN and to avowed communist Michael Klonsky – a close pal of Ayers and member of the militant Students for a Democratic Society. SDS served as a precursor to the violent Weather Underground organization.
As investigative journalist Stanley Kurtz reported, Klonsky and Ayers teamed up on the so-called “small schools movement” to steer schoolchildren away from core academics to left-wing politicking on issues of “inequity, war, and violence.”
A cadre of like-minded educators and national service administrators across the country share the same core commitment to transforming themselves from imparters of knowledge to transformers of society. The “change” agenda trains students to think only about what they should do for Obama – and rarely to contemplate how his powers and ambitions should be limited and restrained.
Ayers preached his education-as-“social justice” agenda to his “comrades” at the World Economic Forum in Caracas, Venezuela three years ago:
“This is my fourth visit to Venezuela, each time at the invitation of my comrade and friend Luis Bonilla, a brilliant educator and inspiring fighter for justice. Luis has taught me a great deal about the Bolivarian Revolution and about the profound educational reforms underway here in Venezuela under the leadership of President [Hugo] Chavez. We share the belief that education is the motor-force of revolution, and I’ve come to appreciate Luis as a major asset in both the Venezuelan and the international struggle—I look forward to seeing how he and all of you continue to overcome the failings of capitalist education as you seek to create something truly new and deeply humane.”
Ayers continued:
“I walked out of jail and into my first teaching position—and from that day until this I’ve thought of myself as a teacher, but I’ve also understood teaching as a project intimately connected with social justice. After all, the fundamental message of the teacher is this: you can change your life—whoever you are, wherever you’ve been, whatever you’ve done, another world is possible. As students and teachers begin to see themselves as linked to one another, as tied to history and capable of collective action, the fundamental message of teaching shifts slightly, and becomes broader, more generous: we must change ourselves as we come together to change the world. Teaching invites transformations, it urges revolutions small and large. La educacion es revolucion!”
This is why informed parents do not trust the Educator-in-Chief and his “comrades.” You can take Obama from the radicals in Chicago. But you can’t take the Chicago radicalism out of Obama.

I think people are finally beginning to recognize a duck when they see it.

In lieu of the Obama school speech, U.S. Department of Education will be issuing coupons for “Free train rides to Treblinka!” for the kids to take home and give to their parents.
Ayers said “I walked out of jail and into my first teaching job.” Wow, that’s unbelieveable. And worse yet, he speaks like that’s a badge of honor.
Errah what’s the big deal??!! It flies everyday next door at the US Treasury and at the Bureau of Public Debt.
It’s only fitting, after all, they own it.
I heard that the text of the speech will be available online Monday night…..of course we’ve been told we could read the bills for 5 days before votes or signatures too. So who knows if/when it will be there…
Was glad to read today that our school district (in FL) has decided to let teachers only use it when it fits in with the curriculum. Not happy to hear that they won’t inform the parents if that comes up later. My guess is that it won’t work with a kindergarten curriculum. My son’s class is currently doing activities “All About Me”. Perhaps the teacher should work in a lesson “All About Obama” – including all of his radical ties…..

My wife called my son’s high school regarding the speech, they said that they would not be showing it, something about them not having the technology for it, as opposed to, that it was inappropriate. Sheesh!

the libs seem to feel that they will remain in power forever (ala chavez) so aren’t very concerned that what goes around comes around. imagine the next republican president with both houses of congress republican nationalizing the k-12 school system and changing the school day to 8 hours and the school year to 46 weeks. imagine mandating that if your school graduates less than 85% of it’s incoming freshmen, replace the entire staff or shut the school down. how about change the labor laws making union organizing on private property illegal. think of the czars conservatives could put together. czar to track the environmental/community activist/anarchist money trail. czar to investigate just how it is that public servants making 160k per year end up millionaires so often. won’t it be fun.

Here in southern MO, the news reported that many schools will not be participating, but the principals, etc, were sent info secretly on how to ‘deal with’ the questions & inevitable backlash.

Education must not be confused with indoctrination. Repetition is valuable for many learning activities, i.e. mathematics, sciences, languages, etc., but can be used to brainwash politically as well. These socialists have no limits to their desire to contol us all. They are seeking to complete the change of our schools from education to indoctrination.

Sometimes an old saying says it best regarding Obama – “Birds of a feather flock together”.
I took a lot of heat for my hardline stand of yanking kids out of public school in favor of home schooling on a previous thread, so I will offer this instead: Know your child’s school and teacher! These people get more time with your kids than you do so their values better be in line with yours. Get involved with the PTA and school board to make sure that proper notification and “opt out” policies are set to give you plenty of time to make an informed decision.
The White House bypassed the school boards and superintendents for a reason. It’s easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.
My choice is a product of conception between top right and bottom right…the 2 with hollow eyes and empty heads.
I think he has a point about the failings of the capitalist education in as such that we keep throwing good money into the bottomless pit of education without seeing any returns. On the other hand, he sure is I suppose.
As for the 2nd point, it’s not new and it won’t be humane. History tells us that marxism has been the cause of much suffering.
Since my child is no longer of school age, I don’t have to worry about her. But bravo to those who do oversee their childrens’ education and take an active role in countering this mindless dribble.

I heard the squawking heads on NBC say that other presidents had done the “same thing”…even Reagan. I highly doubt Reagan had class-notes asking children how they can help the President push his agenda.
I saw that group of Hollyweird celebrities. I can’t seem to recall them ever making a similar “pledge” for Bush, or even for Ronald Reagan. And Reagan was one of their own.
I wouldn’t want my two children to hear Duh One, because, thus far, he’s given me no reason to trust him and many reasons not to.

The personal and immediate presence the Internet will afford Obama’s “talk” with our students – enhance by a USDE approved lesson plan – will have a far greater affect on proselytizing them towards liberal activism than any generic address Presidents Reagan and Bush could have ever done in the pre-wired age to activate students to a more conservative bent.

I’m sorry. Conservatives have many good points to make critiquing the Obama administration, including Van Jones, but when you go crazy about the president telling kids to work hard and stay in school, no one outside the rushosphere takes you seriously in the least. Seriously, come on.

I called our school superintendent’s office this morning to find out if our local schools are participating and was dismayed to learn that they were, “at the discretion of the principals”…I expressed my grave concern over what I have heard on the news about the Dept. of Education’s “guidelines” for teachers to use this event to have schoolchildren “write letters to themselves” (to-do list?) about “how they can help Barack Obama”. I explained that this is sending the WRONG message to our children, that we are not created to serve our goverment, we elect our government to SERVE US. When I contacted our school principal, I learned to my relief that he has decided not to air the broadcast. After expressing my gratitude, I again reiterated my concern that this event was being used to indoctrinate children with the assumption that this president is “inspirational” (after all, another suggested activity was to describe how he has inspired them), but that not everyone feels inspired by him.
I’m starting to feel like I’m living in the former Eastern bloc w/all of these czars and Dear Leader appearances.

Before long, Obama’s speeches will have elevator music added as a background and it will be piped into all Federal, State and County buildings for our listening enjoyment.
This line reminded me of something that happened earlier this week.
My son was watching a documentary on Hitler’s rise to power. At one point during the program, he says, “Dad, this guy is like Obama! His personality got him in charge and this happened during really bad economic times!”
I said…. “Yup. Interesting comparison don’t you think?”
To which he said, “I don’t think Obama wants to invade the world, but all the other stuff he’s doing with companies and health stuff is kinda like what Hitler did.”
I told him to keep watching and maybe write a report for school on some of the similarities and differences between Hitler’s and Obama’s respective rise to power. I can just imagine the phone call I’ll be getting from the principal of the school if he does a report on that subject.

Students will choose three of their favorite ‘letters’ and share one of them with the class, describing why they enjoyed that ‘letter’ the most.

Hate to be a broken record, but history is repeating itself, and anyone who points it out is labeled an insane racist.
Problem with history, is there are records to look back on and learn from. However, it looks like the American education system is proving to be the failure we have said it was for we are repeating the history of Germany 1932-1939.

If there’s this much controversy and it’s as innocent as they say, then why not publish the text of his speech in advance?
Even if it is completely benign, the secrecy and subterfuge is unnerving to parents.
It was announced today that the text will be available to parents prior to the speech.
However, the lesson plan remains, as does the influence by Liberal teachers which my already Conservative 11.5 year old complains about on a near daily basis.

The pathetic Chicago school system extends well into the burbs as well. I had to deal with that system for 9 years. The teachers were poorly prepared, the text books were horrid and the curriculum dismal. The educators had an inflated sense of success. I was afraid that this was going to go nationwide.

It is a shame that so many people are afraid to point out the parallels that are going on out of fear of being called a racist or something else. For it is just that silence that brought another megalomaniac to power and has allowed the transpirings of the last 18-20 months to occur.
This latest pledge drive to Obama should be putting an end to the silence. Yet instead, those with the voices that are heard still remain virtually silent save for token mocking of the video.
I most definitely fear that by the time they do begin to speak up, it will be too late.
Earlier in the week, Mark Levin made the statement thay Obama cannot be a dictator because he was elected to the office and by a majority.
Again history is ignored, for he seems to not know that many dictators are elected to their position except after military coups. Hitler was elected, Hussein (Thebone in Iraq) was elected, so he was wrong, and it only takes the denial and silence of people to allow it to happen.

The only bona fide criticism of a conservative white racist here is of Trent Lott, who the GOP has been trying to sweep under the rug for years. There really is no excuse whatsoever for ignoring the wave of racist republicans since Obama was elected, most notably the Young Republicans.
I’m not interested in Reagan’s gaffe. I’m more appalled by the fact that he overtly took advantage of an address to school kids to hawk his economic theory, when Republicans today can’t get over the president encouraging kids to stay in school and work hard.

I have no problem with Obama putting out a PSA to the world about the benefits of working hard in acedemics, but obvious deceit (bypass the school committees) and socialist lesson plan is over the line.
The president isn’t just telling kids to “work” hard and “stay in school.” And since you don’t work in the sphere of education, I’m not going to take your critique seriously. You don’t know what it feels like to be discriminated against in public education because you’re not another liberal moonbat, and instead, you’re marginalized because your spouse is in the military and you voted for Pres. Bush.

Classrooms need to stay apolitical. Period. No president, and I mean no president, has any business dictating what kids can do for them (hint Obummer) instead of just focusing on their education. Personally, as a school teacher, I do not like any politician lecturing students, because, in the end, staying in school will be the decision of the student, not the politician.
Oh, and can you please provide a link to your Reagan preached tax cuts to kids assertion? The only time Reagan ever spoke to children was after the NASA disaster. I was one of those kids he spoke to about it.

It is no NOT the “speech” but the agenda the education department is pushing after it that people are objecting to and that is getting misreported in the media.
The real problem is that a teacher relates to his or her students in both a professional and personal way. Obama’s speech can be relatively meaningless, the Department of Education can clean up the propaganda in the proposed lesson plans, but far too many of the teachers in the public schools are liberal and recognize that they have been “greenlighted” to politicize their classroom. The best thing a parent can do is keep their children out of the classroom during the speech and ask about any lesson assignments that show political bias. If such bias is clear, then a trip to the principle and a confrontation with the teacher is the next step to be followed up by a letter to the editor of a local newspaper.
In the Utah situation, the damage was done and all that happened was that the principle apologized. What should have happened is a minimum of a reprimand and another assembly countering the leftist propaganda so cleverly hidden in a public service message. In addition, the leadership of the PTA who came up with this stunt ought to be removed immediately and told not to volunteer again for such a position.

Scary, scary stuff. I bought the book “The Naked Communist” online from a used book store. My copy happened to be a first edition, signed by the author. Lent it to a friend and he is now having trouble sleeping at night. These people are patient and have been trying to do this for decades. I went to an SDS meeting in Buffalo in the late 60′s. Their goal was to infiltrate journalism, political science, and education to get footholds for the future. Never went to another meeting. They creeped me out.
I’m watching my grandson this weekend in SC, while his mother is out of town. He just brought me a letter from his middle school’s principal telling of the program and follow up assignment giving us 3 choices: 1. yes to speech and follow up activity. 2. yes to speech, no to follow up. 3. no to both. The schools are providing alternative activities in lieu of participating in the viewing and follow up. My grandson told me to check # 3 even before I spoke with his mother. Good boy! He gets it. BTW his mother said no way was he going to be exposed to that propaganda.
