On Aug. 13, ExxonMobil pleaded guilty in federal court to killing 85 birds that had come into contact with crude oil or other pollutants .....federal officials have brought hundreds of similar cases against energy companies....

Yet there is one group of energy producers that are not being prosecuted for killing birds: wind-power companies. And wind-powered turbines are killing a vast number of birds every year.

A July 2008 study of the wind farm at Altamont Pass, Calif., estimated that its turbines kill an average of 80 golden eagles per year. The study, funded by the Alameda County Community Development Agency, also estimated that about 10,000 birds—nearly all protected by the migratory bird act—are being whacked every year at Altamont.

Somebody check my math - Say 50,000 watts but treated as a point source. Standing 100 feet=1200 inches away, 4(pi)r^2, 50000 / 18095573 = .028 watts per square inch.

Human silhouette area (rough calc) = 1000in^2 * .028 = 28 watts (assuming it is all absorbed which it is NOT because the lower the frequency the more EMR just passes right through you). I weigh 80 kg so 28/80= .35 watts per kg.

Cell phones are measured for the same affect and look, Drudge just posted an article for me! The maximum allowed is 1.6 watts per kg – over 4 times the maximum I could receive standing 100 feet away from a 50KW station, (and the one these nitwits tore down is only 5KW).

And what about those radio transmitter collars they attach to wild animals to track migration? That just plain torture! HORRORS!

OH! And hey there Mr. GreenLib, many windmill farms have to be built in remote areas where the wind is greatest so that means LONG POWER TRANSMISSION LINES.

Do these eco-nitwits have ANY idea of how many orders of magnitude the loss radiated from lines carrying megawatts of AC electrical power is greater than the output from a small AM radio station?

So forget the birds - why doesn't ELF vandalize the wind farms for their generation of EM 'pollution'? HMMM?

So, I guess the envirowackos' next targets will be the horrible wind farms with windmill blades that kill hundreds of thousands or even millions of birds a year, and blot the landscape like a nightmarish rendition of giant ugly viruses? And that suck up taxpayer money like monster Hoovers while supplying only a minuscule amount of energy?

A hearing examiner denied a permit for the towers, based on claims that radio signals could be dangerous to humans. But the council voted to reverse the finding, saying it was based on shaky scientific evidence.

I thought the Telecom Act of 1996 took care of the tinfoil hatters.

Of course, the difference is, greenLibertarian, is that when I am misinformed I don't go around blowing up other people's property, engaging in arson, vandalism or mayhem. I write my local government and protest peacefully.

The fact that these nitwits are too stupid to sort out the facts from the propaganda, which they create and spread for the most part, is THEIR problem and in no way justifies criminal acts. Being stupid is not a valid legal defense...

Does ELF realize how much radiation the sun emits on a daily basis! I suggest that every single member of ELF immediately travel to the sun and begin efforts to extinguish it! This would help with "man-made global warming" and the radiation that the sun emits.

Don't wait. All those furry little bunnies are counting on you!

Now I realize this could be dangerous so I suggest that ELF takes their trip to the sun at night...

When people on this site start tearing down the towers of Scare America, when the people on this site start burning down the houses of treasonous members of congress and the courts, when the members of this site start hunting down union leadership, then you will have a leg to stand on.

As for “understanding” the mindset of terrorist swine, sorry, don’t care. Being “distressed” does not give you the right to destroy private property. The environment is a shared resource,

Shared only in the sense that everyone else comply with whatever some eco-wacko wants.

You mentioned knee-jerk responses earlier. Most of the enviro-wacko causes in the past 30 years have been knee-jerk responses by them to some issue.

Building a fence along the southern border is one example. Rather than build the fence, enviro-wackos are oh-so-concerned about some environmental damage due to building the fence.

You never consider the amount of trash and damage done to the environment by thousands of Mexicans wandering over the land day after day, year after year.

Nuclear energy is another example. Rather than building nuclear plants to provide energy, you would rather people put up with brown and blackouts. You would rather whine about coal or natural gas fired electric plants and continuously put more demands on them causing people to pay more for what they receive.

Leftists whine about joining the other industrialized nations when it comes to passing socialized health care, yet ignore those same nations who have a much higher nuclear energy production than we have.

If you were not so contradictory in so many areas, perhaps more than a few brain-washed morons would see your point of view.
