SEIU exploiting swine flu risk in Chicago schools

By Michelle Malkin  •  September 8, 2009 11:08 AM

The SEIU’s Purple Shirts aren’t content with invading people’s homes.

Andy Stern’s army is now showing up at Chicago schools to exploit swine flu risks.

Yes, really.

Reader Dennis e-mailed me this morning about his encounter: “Five SEIU members (in their purple shirts, of course) were passing out the attached flyer this morning to parents and others walking by around 7 a.m. in front of Disney Magnet School in Chicago (it’s the first day of school here). Along with the flyer, they gave me a packet of hand sanitizer to reinforce the “danger” and a copy of a Washington Post article with the headline,’Swine Flu Could Infect Half of U.S.’”

Here’s the flyer:

Scaring kids and their parents with swine flu for the sake of garnering SEIU a win in the publicity dept, by appearing to secure paid sick days for janitors, is hardly something to tout; in fact, it kinda looks like black mail.

Besides, don’t these janitors already get a set amount of paid sick days?

Even our rural school system provides both certified and classified personnel a set number of sick days per month – and the SEIU was not needed to do it!

I would ask Ed Washington, School Janitor if he has something in his plan called an ATO day or PTO day or days. Accrued time off vs. personal time off. They have renamed these for the benefit of those who never get sick, but wanted to take a day or so to do personal errands.

My point exactly! Personal days are a big factor in certified and classified contract renewals around here. I’d be shocked if CPS didn’t have a similar system.

No one said they could not stay home. If their union failed to negotiate sick days for them, they should take it up with the union, not the schools. Even you should be able to see the difference between the two.

That’s really reassuring for those of us who have allergies and asthma. /sarc. Cold air can trigger coughing, which to the uninformed can make it appear that I have something contagious. Same with the sniffles and sneezes that come with having allergies (year round, not seasonal).

Again, the old con game, that always work with an ignorant and gullible public. Create a crisis. Then, by taking away some freedoms and liberties permanently, act like you’re a hero fixing the crisis. One day the public will wake up and find all liberty and freedom is gone.

I believe you nailed it on the head. One of the many underlying currents of the unions is to get more time off for their workers. Not only does it make the rank and file happy, but it forces management to hire more workers to get the same amount of work done.

More workers = more dues to abuse = increased union power. It’s so simple, even lgm could understand it (if he wanted to).

It looks like the SEIU doesn’t want to waste any of their union dues to help provide healthcare for their membership. That money is needed to pay the leadership so that they can enjoy the benefits of living off a clueless cash cow…laborers. Brilliant strategy…make someone else pay, and expand your income base using only threats and propaganda. They have many willing foot soldiers.

Mr. Ed Washington, school janitor (who is obviously not missing any meals), is responsible for cleaning…yes, cleaning! That’s what janitors do. They use disinfectants, cleansers, bleach, ammonia, have access to rubber gloves, particulate masks, etc. So what’s the problem?

Money. Mo’ money for SEIU. It is of course, protection money.

“Pay up, sucker, and we’ll go away!”

Still painting everyone you dislike with the same paint brush, are we?

Lesson #385: What happens when we generalize.

Let’s take a look at two stories. The first is a story which is about what you referenced to with the “Minuteman home invasion/murder”. I will even use the link to CNN so you can believe it is fair and balanced:

    http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/06/23/arizona.slaying.minutemen/?iref=hpmostpop

Now in this story, the accused did belong to the Minutemen organization but was kicked out. This individual discussed was too radical for them.

Second story about a child-molesting teacher:

    http://www.wyff4.com/news/14081822/detail.html

In this story a math teacher was accused and plead guilty to sexually molesting two boys he was working with.

Under your pretenses, a horrific crime in Arizona happened and one of the perps had once belonged to a group. Your conclusion was that all members of that group are the same (even though the group had disassociated itself from the suspect well before the incident).

Extend the logic: A current math teacher molests two boys in South Carolina. Therefore, you should be holding all math teachers in contempt since they all share the same traits.

lgm, this is your logic, not mine. By the way…you teach math don’t you?

And I think you hit that nail on the head.

This is one of the reasons why our favorite supermarket is the non-union one. The workers all say they wouldn’t work for any other store, the prices and quality of the goods they offer are excellent, and (at the risk of going at it with Uplander) ;-) the corporate offices support environmentally sustainable growth – reasonable stuff, as in trying to be good stewards of what we have.

Interesting, isn’t it, that the green grocers like Whole Foods and the supermarket I shop at are the ones that aren’t unionized? BTW the unions tried a boycott against this store too – and it failed beautifully. :-D
