Doctors against Obamacare

By Michelle Malkin  •  September 11, 2009 11:49 AM

Blogger El Marco is in Washington, D.C., and e-mailed a few pics from the Doctors against Obamacare rally yesterday. He writes: “On September 10, 2009, doctors, nurses and other medical professionals came to Washington, D.C. from across the country to show their opposition to Obamacare. This rally exploded the government-created myth that there is unanimity amongst health care professionals for Democrat plans to take over health care.”

Sadly, FDR managed to bully the SCOTUS into overturning 150 years of precedent, and as a result the government now has essentially unlimited power under the misconstrued “general welfare” clause.

We need to get some power-hungry governors to organize and repeal the 17th Amendment before we have a prayer of returning to the small federal vision of the majority of the founders.

The commerce clause is another basis for the current power of the Federal government.

The commerce clause was intended to prevent the states from having trade disputes and unequal tarrifs. Now, any activity that affects interstate commerce or uses the instrumentalites of interstate commerce (phone, mail, internet) can be regulated. That interpretation expands the limited enumerated powers of the Federal governemnt to a basically unlimted scope. That is not what was intended.

How does the repealing the 17th help? I think we need SCOTUS to get us back to the original intent.

She thinks if you are against “health care reform”, you’re a pig. She claims all of her friends in Europe just love their health care, & in England the tax rate is only 28%. The poor, misdirected woman. I have tried to tell her this is not about health care at all, but she just doesn’t get it. Perhaps I shouldn’t talk like this with a patient, but a doctor’s job is to educate.

The ObamaCare Prevailing Wage question needs to be brought up.

How will Obamacare square up with paying less than the ‘prevailing wage’ to doctors and nurses providing care to low income Medicare and Medicaid patients. Union Politicians vehemently demand union workers on low income schools and roads projects be paid the ‘prevailing wage’. Why the exception when it comes to paying doctors and union nurses the prevailing wage for Medicare, Medicaid and Obamacare?

If not paying the prevailing wage for health care workers is the accepted standard, couldn’t eliminating the prevailing wage for other union workers provide enough savings to help fund a lot of health care insurance for the poor?

    …repeal the 17th Amendment…

Actually, MarcoPolo, what we need to do is to change the 17th Amendment. Right now, the U.S. Senators are elected by popular vote. Basically, that makes the senators just two representatives-at-large for the largest urban area in the state. In the case of the People’s Socialist Quagmire of California, LA-LA land elects both senators.

Here’s the fix. Each county (or similar administative district) gets one vote. If you win the popular vote in that county, you get it’s vote. If you win the majority of counties, you win the election. This way, (using CA as an example), Sierra County has just as much say in the election of IT’S U.S. Senators as does LA County. Think of it as an electorial college for each state.

This way, if you want to be a U.S. Senator, you have to visit every single county in your state. Can you imagine Barbara Boxer trying to sell her socialist snake oil to a thousand voters at a debate in the Tri-County Grange Hall? I don’t think so.
