The Cass Sunstein vote

By Michelle Malkin  •  September 11, 2009 12:57 PM

Here’s last night’s 57-40 Senate roll call vote on the confirmation of Cass Sunstein to be Administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, Office of Management and Budget aka “Regulatory Czar.”

Six Republicans voted yes– Bennett, Collins, Hatch, Lugar, Snowe, and Voinovich.

Five Democrats voted no — Begich, Lincoln, Nelson, Pryor, Webb.

Independent Sanders voted no.

Boxer and Byrd did not vote.

Keep Sunstein’s defense of his most controversial writings — he says he only meant to provoke, and would never actually act on his musings about animal rights, for example — tucked away.

The questions aren’t going to go away.

Olympia Snowe was one of the Gang of 14 that allowed the blackballing of Priscilla Owen and Janice Rogers Brown and has already indicated she would vote for ObamaCare. RINO through and through. Same with Voinovich, Bennett and Collins.

I think both Orrin Hatch, as evidenced by his recent support of the appointment of The Swimmer’s widow to fill his seat, and Richard Lugar may either be senile or just have been in Washington too long.

    Hatch (a scheme)..with any liberal.
    Lugar (hock-a____)…Spit-tui!, and
    Snowe (snow job)…Keep on shovelling.

I am astonished that two Senators from a conservative state, whose gun rights and hunting heritage is so strong, could even consider a “yes” vote for this guy! Two Mormons, at that! Unbelieveable…

In fact, how could any Senator from states that tender stacks of hunters dollars for their local economies even consider voting for an anti-hunter, pro-animal rights person? Snowe and Collins constituency is comprised of hunters. As does Lugar’s Indiana whitetail hunters. Clueless…mindless…jobless (I hope!)

Maybe, one day, they’ll feel the people’s pain. God forgive them…

Don’t get taken in by Congressional politics. It is quite common that when a bill or nominee is already seen as certain to pass (or fail), politicians who need political cover are allowed by the party leadership to vote the other way.

Webb is a DEMOCRAT. When his vote is the one that will decide a thing, it is an absolute certainty he will vote with the Democrats.

If you care about the Constitution and the rule of law at all, you should never be voting for any Democrat.

Contrary to what a lot of commenters on this blog think, democracy is always about choosing the lesser of evils. Waiting to vote for a candidate you ‘like’ is the kind of thing people whose minds are awash in the celebrity culture do.

Elections are not supposed to be popularity contests. They are about who gets REAL POWER. Over YOU and your FAMILY.

    - Bennett, Collins, Hatch, Lugar, Snowe, and Voinovich, the 6 RINOs who voted to confirm the whacko (and who also voted for cloture)

    - Begich (D), Gregg (R), Ben Nelson (D),

Before you give Sanders (or Begich, or Gregg, or Ben Nelson) too much credit, they voted for cloture. Had all four of them voted against cloture, the best Sunstein could have hoped for was a recess appointment.
