GOP cap-and-tax 8′er Rep. Mark Kirk: I promise I won’t pander as a Senator the way I do now

I didn’t think GOP cap-and-tax 8′er Rep. Mark Kirk, who is running for Barack Obama’s Senate seat in Illinois, could be any lamer on the issue than he already was.

“But,” he quickly added as some in the Republican crowd booed, “as your (senator), representing the entire state of Illinois, I would vote ‘no’ against the bill coming up, and that’s because we are manufacturing, agriculture and coal state.”
It would seem, Mr. Kirk, that if you really believed the tax-and-trade bill was the best for Illinois then wouldn’t it have been better for your district, narrow interests or not? How about country?
These guys that support tax-and-trade know this is the ultimate shell game. Not enough revenue – raise the ceiling on emissions after finding the right scientific crew that claims CO2 has declined. It’s such a dishonest joke and no matter how Mr. Kirk wants to say he was only representing his district’s interests, will he change his mind if the Illinois voters support tax-and-trade?
If you can’t believe a politician, who can you believe? /snark
It is so nice to see a person running for office that has such a firm set of core beliefs. /sarc
This joker is as worthless as a French Army knife.
OH my goodness! Has kirk seen the light or just wanting money and votes? Me thinks the last two. Same old crud from someone who has seen millions upon millions who are fed up with the elected in dc in both parties. Frankly my dear I don’t believe you!
L
Mr. Kirk: “It was in the narrow interests of my congressional district.”
ROFL Him calling them narrow.
HAHAHHAHHHAHAHAAAAAA
When he made this last statement was his lips moving. Enough said.
The Dem candidate for VA gov is trying to do the same thing, but in reverse. Liberals aren’t too happy with a number of his votes as a state legislator, so he’s claiming that he was just representing the wishes of his district.
I know you’re supposed to represent your constituents, but if you think something is bad why would you vote for it regardless?
Can I call him a liar? He is.
To paraphrase Robin Williams: “God gave men a brain and a mouth but not enough blood for both to function properly at the same time.”
Yes, he’ll pander in a different way – to one state rather than one district.
I live in his district. He is a liar.
Which ever the wind blows, so does Kirk.
Mr. Kirk , DEM light !!! only representing his district’s interests; this is the best Republicans have?
so now he represents a blue district so he has to pander to the environmental nimrods who still believe in “man made global warming” despite this record cold year and the shrinking ozone hole. but next year when he represents a blue state he’s not going to cave into those environmental idiots, because he’ll have 6 years for them to forget his betrayal, as opposed to just 2 years.
Those are the ones where the handle is sharp and the blade dull, aren’t they?
Meanwhile the hole in the ozone layer is shrinking! Quick! We need an International Summit to figure out how to tax this catastrophe of manmade…er…um
aka bladeless knife without a handle.
Hmmm, sounds like…like…oh, I dunno…Arlen Specter? Surely this doofus isn’t the only Republican in Illinois. He’s a disaster.
It’s okay out here in the real world to call things the way you see ‘em. (I was going to say, “Call a spade a spade,” but now I can’t, ’cause I’d get branded as a racist for sure, even though no one in the discussion is black.)
Was he wrong about this too? http://www.downsizedc.org/blog/why+the+rush%3F
http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2009/roll680.xml
Fixed it for you.
This guy is a Tom Davis Republican and Tom is one of the reasons I am no longer a Republican.
If you look at his campaign I bet he is getting advice from Davis. Only Davis could tell a Republican to say something as stupid as this with a straight face.
God save us from RINOs!
I have the perfect solution!
As punishment for Mark Kirk’s numerous crimes against conservatives, we should all promise not to support him, speak endlessly about how much he sucks, and then not vote for him/vote for a third party candidate that has no chance of winning/outright support and vote for his democrat challenger. (Because it’s all the same in the end.)
….. and then whine and complain when the democrat in office does many things that bite us all in the conservative a**, and then blame the entire situation on Mark Kirk, because it’s his fault. Who’s with me!!!!!
Huzzah.
What Thomas fails to realize is that every conservative donates to Kirk’s campaign and then votes for this moron the end result will be exactly the same thing as electing a Democrat because Kirk is a RINO.
It is LONG past time to fall back on the LoTE argument if anyone wants to restore American to its conservative principles. Voting for some idiot RINO is NOT the solution to our problems.
He’s worse than that. He’s as useless as the French Army.
Vicious! Utterly true, but vicious.
That’s why we all need to be good conservatives and vote for Kirk’s democrat opponent. Cut out the middleman!! See? It’s the only way for conservatives to win! For the democrat to get elected. I’m with you, man!
Sent his fundraiser back and asked to be removed with a simple response: Cap and Tax. He is a disgrace to the United States Naval Academy. Duty Honor Country?…Oh snap-that is West Point!
If the crap and trade vote is not convincing enough try a new assault weapons ban. Yep, introduced by Kirk.
“Kirk seeks to restore assault weapons ban”

As a resident of Illinois, I will never vote for this man.
One thing that I have learned since Ronald Reagan left office is that conservatives cannot win by voting for leftists. It doesn’t matter if the leftists call themselves Democrats or Republicans.
In the US Senate, the vast majority of Republicans are statists if not outright leftists. The fact that they are not as overtly statist/leftist as Obama and his ilk does not mean they are not statists/leftists.
We need to vote for conservatives and tell the RNC where to get off with their stupid, self-destructive policies. I am forever done with the LoTE choice.
I’ll contribute to the House (NRCC.org), most (not all) GOP-ers in the House are reasonably conservative.
But not a penny to the Senatorial Campaign committee. Too many RINOs, and flat out Democrat moles in the Senate.
If Dodd, Reid and Boxer get decent Republican opponents, I might contribute to individual candidates.
But supporting RINOs, and outright Democrat moles like the two witches from Maine, and supporting the group that has already endorsed Crist over Rubio, well, Cornyn and the Repub Senate Committee can suck eggs.
The answer, for Illinoians (whatever the proper term) is find someone opposing Kirk and send money, get t-shirts, put out yard signs, and vote for the real Republican.
They haven’t had the 2010 primary yet…
As a “Navy guy,” he is an embarassment!
He sure didn’t learn to equivocate (lie) like that at the Naval Academy! Sounds like a real greaseball! Real USNA guys will know what that is.
LoTE?
Living on The Edge?
Languages other Than English?
LoTE, Norway – a village in Eid municipality?
… oh, and a big LoTE/LOL at the “their stupid, self-destructive policies.” Yeah, that’s right. Their. Not ours.
Oh and by the way, do you know what’s evil? Participating in the success of the democrat when we have a choice to keep them out of office. That’s evil. I vote for conservatives in the republican primaries, (the ones who have made it to that point to be on the ballot) and I hope that my choice succeeds. I give money to other conservatives that I can’t vote for, but believe in. At least I know that my conscious is clear, and that I have never participated in the success of a democrat when my number one choice for a candidate lost to the person who my fellow republicans decided on to represent us all in the general election.
Thomas,
Your problem is that you assume all CONSERVATIVES here still consider themselves Republicans. That isn’t the case.
I am NOT a Republican any longer. I am a conservative so GOP policies are NOT my policies. If you still believe the lies the Senate GOP caucus is telling you then that is another of YOUR problem. I no longer suffer from that problem. I don’t believe them.
That is why I said THEIR policies. THEIR policies are to lie to us and tell us they will behave like conservatives when 20 years of history has proven that they will behave like leftists!
If you don’t know that LoTE stands for “lesser of two evils” then that is another of your problems.
By voting for actual conservatives my conscience is quite clear. And if your GOP Senator is as much a leftist as the Democrat you didn’t vote for I don’t see how your conscience can be clear.
Stop voting for Republicans just because they were nominated by a left-wing GOP committee somewhere.
Kirk is out of touch with the real (conservative) world.
Just say NO to Kirk and put this fool out of our misery.
The problem is that Congress is out of touch with the American people. They all need to go. The Senate is almost certainly more clueless than the average House member but they are all completely out of touch with reality and it gets worse the longer they have been there.
It’ hasn’t been the case for a long, long time. And the democrats have been gaining on us. Hmm. How did this come to be. I wonder how that happened. Oh well. Not to worry. Must be someone elses fault.
Hey Thomas! How did all those Republican votes for Arlin Specter when he was a Republican work out, huh? Yep, I guess we gotta vote the party line to keep the democrats from taking over.
It may be the fault of the idiot, leftist Republicans in the House and Senate and the people who continue to vote for them even when they KNOW the idiot Republicans in the House and Senate are going to behave like leftists.
Denial is NOT just a river in Egypt…
Why do I suspect that Thomas is really Bill Grant?
Wow! This guy is literally the face of the GOP in 2009, and THAT’S a shame. He’s not as far left as most of the democrats, but he’s probably farther left than they were forty years ago.
Politicians who believe in the interests of the nation and its citizens are a rare breed indeed, and obviously they’ve become extinct in the state of Illinois. Scum like this rat will be the death of our once proud country.
I did just that last Nov. I did not vote for the incumbent RINO, voted for a Constitution Party candidate. Neither won of course, now I know what I’ll be getting from the new liberal, lying, left winger. He’s proud as punch right now, you know a black, democrat president and all…every so often I send him copies of the latest polls showing Odopo losing his approval rating right along with most dems in Congress. Poor guy is going to get 6 years of my style of diversity and understanding…and I love sending every email.
A little story. In the 70’s and 80’s I worked in a coal fired power plant in Fairbanks Alaska. One thing I remember learning back then was that the coal were burning there was so clean in terms of sulpher that a special waiver was given by the epa. Apparently the percentage of sulpher was so low that back then the technology did not exist to remove the required percentage. Now it may be different. And before anyone asks….yes, the job on the coal crew sucked really bad. Outdoors at 50 below and all that.
And THAT is what your refusal to vote for the lote is really about. It’s about you FEELING GOOD.
You might as well be a leftist yourself. That is exactly the way they ‘think.’
And, btw, WarEagle, those of us who vote for the lote vote for the LESSER of two evils. If the two candidates are REALLY equivalent, we’ll go third party, too.
OR GIVE US A THIRD PARTY CANDIDATE WHO ISN’T JUST A BAG OF WIND.
Until then, YOU are as much a part of the problem as the celebrity loving Kennedy voters are. You vote how you FEEEEEL instead of voting for the candidate you know will do the least damage.
BTW, I never contribute to a political party. That’s just plain dumb. EASY, but dumb.
Contributing to a political party is like going into a used car dealership, handing the salesman your money and saying, “Please give me something good.”
Easy, but really dumb.
Find conservatives who have a real fighting chance to win in their primaries. Contribute directly. Give until it hurts. Participate in the battles within the GOP or find a new party that isn’t led by spoilers (I don’t see any now).
Then, once the primaries are over, stop the Democrats. Until the Democrats are no longer so extremely collectivist (never gonna happen).
Exactly. There are no philisophically different in any of the Congressional race leaders across the country, as far as I can tell. (Peter Schiff maybe, but I don’t know how his race is going.)
Meg Whitman, Mark Kirk, Sharron Angle, Sue Lowden, Charlie Crist…..all of them represent more of the same. Most of those people have John McCain and Lindsay Graham raising millions for them.
If I lived in Nevada, I’d vote for Harry Reid before I’d vote for a RINO. At least Reid is honest about what he is. (In reality, I’d vote third party. I refuse to just stay home.)
Actualy, that approach is exactly how they manage to keep stringing us along. You’re not doing any of us favors with that approach. You are, however, making the GOP very happy, because it means they don’t have any real responsibility any more.
“Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost.” — John Quincy Adams”
So have you contributed to their conservative competition in the primaries yet? Some of the conservatives have a real shot.
And as much as I loathe McCain, McCain is NOT ‘the same as’ Obama. If you still do not understand that, you are wilfully blind.
On September 17th, 2009 at 9:30 am, Roland said:
Absolutely. I’m not financially able to do the whole $2,400, but I’ve contributed to several campaigns. I also am an active attendee of my local GOP, I write letters to the editor, I’m collecting petition signatures at a local gathering this weekend, and I go to my town hall meetings. Politics starts at the bottom. Focusing only at the elections at the top is a mistake most voters make.
Actually, while McCain and Obama both tried to project that image, they agreed on about 85% of policy. Afghanistan, National ID Cards, BailOuts, National Health Care…it’s easier than listing things they disagreed on. At the end of the day, there’s no significant differences between the two big parties any more.
Immigration is one of my hot-buttons, and that alone disqualified McCain in my book. I don’t care if he does win elections – he doesn’t win them for me.
Apparently, Peter Schiff just announced this morning. I think I’ll go send him some money.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the people who seek political office loved their country and its people more than they love themselves….wishful thinking.
This guy is also very anti-gun:
http://www.examiner.com/x-17034-Chicago-Gun-Rights-Examiner~y2009m7d23-Mark-Kirks-bid-to-be-Illinois-antigun-Republican-Senator
So who is the real conservatative running against him in the primary?
Anyone? Buelar? Anyone?
Kirk is an unelectable liberal clown, who cannot win because he’ll get 0 support from conservatives.
He has a 55% ACU lifetime rating — i.e., he votes with the GOP only 55% of the time — and his ratings the past two years have been 48 and 40. He’s a liberal; there is not anything even remotely conservative about this fairy.
He has actually voted:
- Against the Iraq War “surge”,
- Against the partial birth abortion ban (yes, really),
- For Crap and Tax,
- For all manner of gun and ammunition bans, even sponsoring the assault weapons joke/ban,
- For illegal alien amnesty.
He has a 100% rating from the teachers unions.
You are obviously a partisan Republican who doesn’t care about policy. I’m not. I’m a conservative, and Kirk will never get my vote.
Karenhasfreedom — Dr. Eric Wallace, but he doesn’t have a prayer.
Illinois conservatives also now have a candidate for Governor who has contributed to Dick Durbin, Lisa Madigan, and Mike Madigan, all crook Dems. He is Andy McKenna, the departing ILGOP Chairman. He has destroyed the party.
I’m retired from the State of confusion–oops Illinois. They have spent all their allocated $$ for those on the State healthcare plan and paid up thru 3/09. No more $$ until July 2010. This is what we’ll get with Obama/Pelosi/Reid care. People are avoiding going to the doctor and are being hounded by debt collectors. Demtards at their best. Unions backed these losers and now have their shorts in a bunch about slow payment. Be careful what you ask for.
