For once, Jon Stewart takes a break from Fox News-bashing to ask where the hell the establishment media reporters have been on the ACORN scandals.
Behold his momentary lapse of sanity.

ACORN, calling the actions of some of its employees “indefensible,” has suspended advising new clients as part of its service programs and is setting up an independent review to see what happened.
ACORN chief executive Bertha Lewis said in a written statement that she was “ordering a halt to any new intakes into ACORN’s service programs until completion of an independent review.”
The actions were taken, she said, “as a result of indefensible action of a handful of our employees.”
Classic ACORN CYA — always going out of their way to minimize the problem of systemic, coordinated corruption as the “indefensible action of a handful.”

I have NEVER watched his show, and I don’t plan to. I don’t watch conservative bashers and I sure don’t get my news from late night.
Even Stewart can read the tea leaves…State Run Media(SRM) will not survive. Even fake reporters are embarrassed!
When I read this headline “Hell Freezes Over” for a moment I thought Teddy Kennedy had been hired as a stringer, reporting on location.

Stewart is usually pretty even handed. The best thing about Stewart is that he doesn’t take himself too seriously. He knows he’s a comedian, not a reporter or a news person.
The good thing about Stewart is that he knows he is an entertainer.

I never catch this guy, but that is funny. Pretty much summed up my thoughts about the whole deal. When you have one location breaking the law, it’s a crime. When it’s multiple locations, it’s organized crime. Crickets chirping for going after them under RICO though.
Stewart had a momentary lapse on bashing Fox News. He’ll be back on track again shortly. He was only embarassed for his liberal media friends for getting scooped by a couple of “kids” with no budget.

I liked it at the end when his only way to turn it on Fox News was to try to attack you for saying ACORN is a nut.

Headline News is on the television in our galley area at work. Even they were just showing some of the hidden camera clips. The media would be smart to hop on this quickly. This story keeps bigger every day and if they wait until it is totally explosive, viewers (who aren’t already clued in to their agenda) are going to be asking, why wasn’t this being reported on when the story first broke? The way the media is being exposed is almost as big of a story as is ACORN.

I vowed years ago never to watch that jerk Jon Stewart.
I must now amend that vow, and declare that I will never watch the Jon Stewart show except through a Michelle Malkin-Hot Air-Fox News worm hole.
Might be the first crack. Surely, it must be dawning on some of these “entertainment” sociopaths that they are on the wrong side of “cool” these days. You can’t have an anti-establishment attitude and be part of the establishment.
Stewart is probably looking at comparative ratings ($$$$$) and noticing that Fox is dominating the cable channels and conservatives are dominating radio and the NYT “Best Seller” book lists.
Kind of like how Arianna Huffington and Andrew Sullivan were first conservatives when that was cool and then morphed into the worst of liberals. With sociopaths it can work the other way around too.
Don’t ask me why, but I was channel surfing by the Today show this AM, and they were actually covering the ACORN story. It was presented as yet another attempt by “the conservative media, Fox News” to discredit the Obama administration in a weak guilt by association ploy. I swear I’m not making this up.
By “handful” they mean the entire organization.
Maybe bigger. Remember when Rathergate first broke it was the blogoshpere, and citizen journalists, then the MSM couldn’t ignore it. Same phenomenon here, but even better. A couple of kids with a $3K budget scooped the entire MSM establishment. Kudos to Stewart for catching the real significance of that.

Now, what would be great is if these two kids had some friends who were firmly embedded in various media outlets and just happened to have hidden cameras rolling this week when they asked their superiors if they could do a story about the ACORN scandal.

Just because he is doing what any fair-minded person should be doing (calling out ACORN and their enablers in the media) doesn’t mean he gets credit from me. If he wants to turn over a new leaf, and act sanely from this time on, I certainly welcome that.
What’s so damn pathetic is that his in-studio audience just take their cues, like so many lemmings, as to what they should be outraged about. If JS did the same turn as NBC has done with this story (defending ACORN, and attacking its critics) his audience would have been right there howling in lockstep with their hero, Stewart. Young libs have no idea what to think, until their media heroes tell them what to think. What a truly pitiful bunch of no-minds.

My take on it is that Stewart had to hold his nose through most of it, and that he was unsure of how his audience would react. It didn’t sound like they got what he was trying to communicate, not that a room fool of da*ned fools would get it.
Like in the old Soviet Union it was permissible to criticize specific issues but not the system in general. For example, one might criticize the fact that a factory had improperly machined the 10 mm screws produced in the first month of the latest 5-year plan. But one could not criticize the factory in general or the 5-year plan!
Where Stewart will get in trouble from other leftists is that he criticized THE ENTIRE ORGANIZATION. All those good Marxists should know that is a “no-no.” I guess he missed a couple of party meetings…

ACORN knows it is indefensible well DUH! I guess they think they will play dumb. I think the stink is too strong…nobody is going to buy this not when we had the Clintons having them probed last summer by the FBI. Gibbs threw them under the bus discussing how they were dropped from the census collection, so the message is getting out. Pretty soon their angels in Congress who have been protecting them are going to be distancing themselves from them too….there is an election coming up in 2010.
Unlike Garafolo (I’m proud I don’t know how to spell that name), Stewart isn’t completely in the tank for the left. He will occasionally call a spade a spade…but then again he’s not above mis-using a clip and twisting a sound bite to make a point that really isn’t supported by the facts. At least he can be funny and on ocassion he can be fair.
I wonder if Stewart would have said anything if the “pimp” and “prostitute” had not mentioned that they were going to be using underage girls. If they had not added that clearly over the line part to their pretended operation, I can imagine the left defending ACORN still.
The left defended Clinton’s actions as being about sex – and how we as a nation are just uptight about it. The underage girls is the part that makes this indefensible. Without that, Stewart would not be trying to position himself as being even handed.
The situation as I see is is that the writers as The Daily Show saw the video segments and were able to make a very funny segment from them. It increased the audience of the story to a segment of the populations who doesn’t read conservative blogs. The Daily Show has about 1.5M viewers, and I’ll bet there isn’t much overlap from the readers here.
The show does make fun of conservatives way more than liberals, but you know where he stands.

Though I may detest Jon’s political views, that there’s FUNNY!
Just wait until Jon figures out how much of his lily-white, six-figure salary Obama and the Dems want to tax and “redistribute” to the masses. That’ll put a fire in Jon’s belly!

Eh, I find that Stewart is most comfortable when he’s attacking the media for being inept, so I don’t really see this as being out of character.

ACORN is dedicated to helping poor people by advocating for their rights as oppressed people. Only trouble is ACORN is the oppressor. Notice the tire tracks on the former employees in latest scandal–more to come. Hope Chicago is saved for one last big extravaganza. Let’s hear it for Hannah & James!
If ACORN had not received ten of millions of taxpayer dollars this would not be a problem. For years Congress and the Bureaucracy have NOT been doing their jobs.
I have never seen Jon Stewart but all too many of our “public servants” have either been lazy or terribly dishonest-they are the ones needing to be attacked.
