Gird your loins: Shields down

By Michelle Malkin  •  September 17, 2009 11:10 AM

Don’t worry, be happy:

The Obama administration will scrap the controversial missile defense shield program in Eastern Europe, a senior administration official confirmed to CNN Thursday.

The U.S. has been testing the ability of ground-based interceptor missiles to hit long-range ballistic missiles.

The comment followed similar statements from officials in Poland and the Czech Republic — where key elements of the system were to be located — but was the first confirmation from an American official.

Vice President Joe Biden earlier refused to confirm to CNN that the George W. Bush-era plan was being shelved.

But he did explain the logic of doing so, saying Iran — a key concern for the United States — was not a threat.

“I think we are fully capable and secure dealing with any present or future potential Iranian threat,” he told CNN’s Chris Lawrence in Baghdad, where he is on a brief trip.

“The whole purpose of this exercise we are undertaking is to diminish the prospect of the Iranians destabilizing that region in the world. I am less concerned — much less concerned — about the Iranian potential. They have no potential at this moment, they have no capacity to launch a missile at the United States of America,” he said.

Biden said he is “deeply” involved in the review of the missile defense program.

The Bush administration had cited the perceived nuclear threat from Iran as one of the key reasons it wanted to install the missile shield in eastern Europe.

We’re in really deep $h-t people.

Obama is also hell-bent on engagement (in conversation) with Iran and others. Without conditions. Well, actually, that’s no longer true. Iran is actually setting the conditions for Obama. Aminadinnerjacket is leading Obama around like a hungry lost dog. It’s an embarrassment for the US.

And rather than make the focus of Nukes keeping Iran from getting them, Obama is talking about Nuke reductions for all countries. As if Iran having Nukes isn’t an issue, but the US having Nukes is an issue. Obama probably believes that if we junk all of our nukes, others will do so as well.

    This guy is dangerously naive.

The Left have been opposed to the missile shield concept since HalfBrite of Arkansas shot down President Nixon’s proposal. Europe was opposed to it also.

But the Second World War is over, Europe is no longer the war torn wreck it was and the Soviet Union collasped. Europe can defend herself IF SHE WANTS TO-it should no longer be our responsibility. Europe allowed Russia to rise again. How about using the Left’s old slogan in re-write: Europe for the Europeans?

    European Union — Population: 491,000,000
    The United States-Population 300,000,000.
Let Europe defend Europe. There are too many beautiful American Military Cemeteries all over this slime cover world. How about letting my grandsons live long lives?

The Left and Obama will not develop a shield for this country-we will just have to wait and see what we can do later.

Hey, you’re the one who keeps bringing up how we should all blindly vote Republican.

Elections have consequences. And here is – yet again, more consequences of the democrat who was victorious. And it didn’t have to turn out that way. It’s stupid. It’s a self-inflicted wound. It’s allowing harm to come to all of us, all because of a single political issue and a petty grudge.

And some people would rather vote third party or choose to not vote at all and allow the democrat to win because of their single issue. And now we are 9 months into the Obama presidency. We’ve got a very long way to go until he can no longer do harm to us and our allies.

You equate that to ‘blindly vote Republican’, and you are really ignorant of the facts. And the consequences of such actions.

I have no voice to the democrats who voted for the democrat. But I do have a voice to the fellow conservatives who thought it was such a stellar idea to throw the election and try again in 4 years.

Now why would they (conservatives) want to do that? Oh, yeah. Amnesty. It’s totally worth it to get everything that Obama has done so far, and has yet to do to punish the evil McTraitor. Disdain is the least of what these people deserve for their actions.

Yeah, those votes for the Republican candidates Specter and Jeffords sure had consequences, didn’t they? I guess I really was ignorant of the facts – like when they said they were Republicans. And the consequences of those actions – like when they betrayed their voters and joined the democrats.

Whew, I’m sure glad those votes for Jeffords and Specter kept the Republican majority, huh? How did that work out, by the way?

But what happens when Russia or China decides we’re weak and tries to pick a fight? It’s the indication that Obama is afraid of confrontation that’s the problem. It just emboldens Russia to start something with Georgia, China with Taiwan, or Iran with Israel. If people are anti-war now, what will they be like if we have to go all out? Will we go all out?

That’s not true at all. If it were, nobody would bother voting at all. I dare say that nobody has ever voted for a candidate that agreed with them on all the issues.

Immigration, Fiscal Policy, SCOTUS Choices, – there’s simply nothing about John McCain that appealed to me.

And he could have won the election if he had voted against the Bailout. Politics being what they are, he could sneakily ensured they didn’t need his vote, pretended to go all mavericky, and simply stolen the election. He didn’t. That’s his fault, not mine.

Not holding the GOP accountable for Bush’s big spending, big government mistakes would have done far more damage to America in the long run than Obama ever will.

That’s all neither here nor there, Thomas. Even when you add in Ralph Nader, all of the third party votes combined would have made no difference if you applied them either way.

The battle was not for Republican votes – there just aren’t enough Republicans, even if they vote in lockstep, to carry an election.

The battleground was – and will be – for the independent vote, Obama won that contest – though now that they know him, he’s dropping like a brick amongst the independents in the polling.

At any rate, rehashing the vote turnout is particularly moot since it macht nichts, then & now.

Ya pick yerself up, dust yerself off and go on.

It was inevitable that Obama would do great damage to the country, so it would be just a matter of filling in the blanks with the particular damage(s) as the articles of impeachment.
