I’m re-printing my June 19, 2009 blog post and column again here in its entirety to get the message out about Michelle Obama’s role in creating a health care horror story she won’t be publicizing. I repeat: What have you done for Dontae Adams, lately, Mr. and Mrs. O?

I blogged about Michelle Obama’s role in creating a patient-dumping scheme for the University of Chicago Medical Center back in March. With her husband and the Democrats unleashing health care horror story anecdotes to gin up public fear and build support for the beleaguered Obamacare plan, my syndicated column today revisits the kind of “reform” the Obamas and their Chicago cronies champion — and who benefits.
Here’s a challenge to the ABC News Obamacare infomercial producers. I dare you to ask President Obama this question: What have you done for Dontae Adams, lately?

The White House, Democrats, and MoveOn liberals are spreading health care sob stories to sell a government takeover. But there’s one health care policy nightmare you won’t hear the Obamas hyping. It’s a tale of poor, minority patient-dumping in Chicago — with First Lady Michelle Obama’s fingerprints all over it.
Both Republican Sen. Charles Grassley of Iowa and Democrat Rep. Bobby Rush of Chicago have raised red flags about the outsourcing program, run by the University of Chicago Medical Center. The hospital has non-profit status and receives lucrative tax breaks in exchange for providing charity care. Yet, it spent a measly $10 million on charity care for the poor in fiscal 2007 when Mrs. Obama was employed there—1.3 percent of its total hospital expenses, according to an analysis performed for The Washington Post by the non-partisan Center for Tax and Budget Accountability. The figure is below the 2.1 percent average for nonprofit hospitals in surrounding Cook County.
Rep. Rush called for a House investigation last week in response to months of patient-dumping complaints, noting: “Congress has a duty to expend its power to mitigate and prevent this despicable practice from continuing in centers that receive federal funds.”
Don’t expect the president to support a probe. While a top executive at the hospital, Mrs. Obama helped engineer the plan to offload low-income patients with non-urgent health needs. Under the Orwellian banner of an “Urban Health Initiative,” Mrs. Obama sold the scheme to outsource low-income care to other facilities as a way to “dramatically improve health care for thousands of South Side residents.” The program guaranteed “free” shuttle rides to and from the outside clinics.
In truth, it was old-fashioned cost-cutting and favor-trading repackaged as minority aid. Clearing out the poor freed up room for insured (i.e., more lucrative) patients. If a Republican had proposed the very same program and recruited black civic leaders to front it, Michelle Obama and her grievance-mongering friends would be screaming “RAAAAAAAAACISM!” at the top of their lungs.
Joe Stephens of the Washington Post wrote: “To ensure community support, Michelle Obama and others in late 2006 recommended that the hospital hire the firm of David Axelrod, who a few months later became the chief strategist for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. Axelrod’s firm recommended an aggressive promotional effort modeled on a political campaign—appoint a campaign manager, conduct focus groups, target messages to specific constituencies, then recruit religious leaders and other third-party ‘validators.’ They, in turn, would write and submit opinion pieces to Chicago publications.”
Some health care experts saw through Mrs. Obama and her public relations man, David Axelrod—yes, the same David Axelrod who is now Mr. Obama’s senior adviser at the White House. The University of Chicago Medical Center hired Axelrod’s public relations firm, ASK Public Strategies, to promote Mrs. Obama’s Urban Health Initiative. Axelrod had the blessing of Chicago political guru Valerie Jarrett – now White House senior adviser.
Axelrod’s great contribution: Re-branding! His firm recommended re-naming the initiative after “[i]nternal and external respondents expressed the opinion that the word ‘urban’ is code for ‘black’ or ‘black and poor’….Based on the research, consideration should be given to re-branding the initiative.” Axelrod and the Obama campaign refused to disclose how much his firm received for its genius re-branding services.
In February 2009, outrage in the Obamas’ community exploded after a young boy covered by Medicaid was turned away from the University of Chicago Medical Center. Dontae Adams’ mother, Angela, had sought emergency treatment for him after a pit bull tore off his upper lip. Mrs. Obama’s hospital gave the boy a tetanus shot, antibiotics, and Tylenol and shoved him out the door. The mother and son took an hour-long bus ride to another hospital for surgery.
I’ll guarantee you this: You’ll never see the Adams family featured at an Obama policy summit or seated next to the First Lady at a joint session of Congress to illustrate the failures of the health care system.
Following the Adams incident, the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) blasted Mrs. Obama and Mr. Axelrod’s grand plan. The group released a statement expressing “grave concerns that the University of Chicago’s policy toward emergency patients is dangerously close to ‘patient dumping,’ a practice made illegal by the Emergency Medical Labor and Treatment Act (EMTALA)” – signed by President Reagan, by the way – “and reflected an effort to ‘cherry pick’ wealthy patients over poor.”
Rewarding political cronies at the expense of the poor while posing as guardians of the downtrodden? Welcome to Obamacare.

With any luck, this move will kill any healthcare bills in their tracks. Meanchelle just comes across as a bully….just like it was the swan song for Billerycare when she got involved.
So when Hope-a-Dope scolds the American People and they still won’t eat their Arugula, it’s time to bring out the heavy — the person who really wears the pants in that family.
Color me unimpressed. That Harpy’s scowling visage and vicious temperament somehow does not inspire a sudden change of heart in anyone, which is why they threw a blanket over her during the campaign. Nothing has changed today.
But when they’ve unsuccessfully played the last card they have — the race card — to no avail, what’s left but desperation measures? Mrs. Hope-a-Dope is only going to make things worse for them. Delightful.
God, These people speak out of both sides of their mouths with not a wit of ethical behavior.
Maybe, just this once, the “wizard” must step out from behind the curtains to “save” her Phantom Image (…err…I mean…the President of the United States of America…).
That won’t be common (perish the thought!…or under the bus you go!), but may occur more and more often, as the Phantom Image is seen more clearly for the charlatan that he is.
(I only sure hope her upper arms have been sufficiently pumped to pull that curtain cord often enough!)

If this craptastic Obamacare bill was so wonderful, how come she will not have to use it as well as other government employees and their cronies in the unions? I know.. call me racist! However, I have been fighting here in Atlanta to keep the most diverse elementary school in our district and lost. The blacks that control our district redrew the lines and now we have the whites in one school, and the hispanics and blacks in the other. Why do democrats want to segregate?

The thing I love is how Obama and the libs are talking about insurance co-ops. Well they already exist (i work in medical insurance billing for medical facility). The two worst insurance companies we have to deal with is AARP (they will nickel and dime you to death) the other is Group Health which happens to be a Co-Op. They will find any reason possible to try to avoid paying a claim.
Regulus, they ‘intend’ to leave this country just like they did Chicago. It will have weeds growing in the streets, the homes will either be abandoned or holding 2-4 families and our health care will border on 3rd world conditions. There will be mass unemployment for any civilian job, only government/social workers for the most part.
I know it’s Friday and my hope for the future should hold positive thoughts. I’m just not feeling it at the moment. I feel like we’re living in a nightmare and the worst is yet to come.

And you’re also right that things are going to get worse before they get better — economically, socially, in foreign policy. The Stagflation II that The Maximum Leader has set us up for hasn’t even kicked in yet, and our foreign enemies have to realize that almost a quarter of their once-every-three-generations 4-year window of opportunity has already passed — so they’ll be getting busy soon.
The silver lining, if it exists, lies in the fact that our future troubles will likely be the product of Hope-a-Dope’s flailing, instead of what once looked like a juggernaut. When you’ve got Mrs. Hope-a-Dope taking point, you know that desperation in the order of the day.
I had an idea.

Didn’t the “Complete Lives” system advocate giving medical treatment preference to those ages 14-40? Young Mr. Adams should have waited another 24 months to get mauled, then maybe Michelle Obama’s plan would have given him the surgery he needed.
Reading the link, this young man could have not only suffered disfigurement, infection, and pain…but his speech could have been effected. Which means difficulty in school and employment later.

EQ, the potential speech impairment was what I noted as well; disfigurement would be bad enough (and can itself lead to difficulties in school and employment). But to so callously send that child and his mother home without the proper medical care is, IMHO, criminal.
Mrs. O has a lot of explaining to do.
Oh , I almost forgot; listening to a bit of her oh so emotional address to women about health care reform (so called), I was struck by her recitation of an event where one of her daughters was diagnosed as possibly having meningitis. As a mother, I can tell you that when something so potentially severe is diagnosed for my child, my first thought is NOT going to be, ‘Thank goodness we have medical insurance.’
Talk about emotional manipulation….
When my eldest was, as a toddler, diagnosed with severe asthma, we didn’t have any insurance; that wasn’t my first thought, and it never become a major concern as our pediatrician made sure that he got the best of care, working with the representative for the drug company that made the medicine he needed to ensure that he got the medicine he needed.
So much for the money grubbing doctors and pharmaceutical companies, Mr. O. Care to try again…?
In my opinion, the Obama’s have only one underlying interest in healthcare, how can they get their hands on all that money. People needing medical attention do not matter, to them, money is power and now is their time to grab as much as they can.

I’m for a good bill with sound ideas. But the entire solution boils down to spend more money. There have to be solutions other than more government spending. They have to fix what they have broken before they break something else.
Why would a hospital ‘patient dump’? Because the government doesn’t pay enough money to keep doctors and hospitals in business. When they talk about the wonders of the government plan, understand they are talking about a plan that doesn’t pay doctors and hospitals enough to cover their cost of services.
If Obamacare passes, all the patients will be dump-worthy because they’ll all be on that pay schedule. Our hospitals and doctors will go bankrupt. You’ll have insurance but no health care.
Just for accuracy, Obama’s flying monkeys are his complicit and compliant press.

Yes, there is wisdom in sending some patients to clinics and not addressing their needs in an emergency room. But, the greatest wisdom is doing proper triage.
And yes, there are anecdotes about insurance companies that deny coverage or do not pay claims.
Bottomline, our medical system has issues. The question is, how and if it should be fixed?

Adams’ case perfectly illustrates rationing. Some bureaucrat will decide you “dont really need to be there.” And out you go.
Don’t think you are immune if you have insurance. Obama said, as recently as 2006, he wants a single payer system and this was his plan to get it. When Obamacare runs private insurance out of business, that will be you and me booted from the ER.
Last year, my very sick elderly mother waited over 24 hours at an ER in surburban Los Angeles. So many LA hospitals have gone out of business that the illegals go out to the suburbs. This was the hospital where my mother delivered her children, to which she donated money and where she ran the Angel Tree for several years. 24 hours for a sick elderly citizen is a freakin’ crime. SO DON’T THINK THAT WONT BE YOU.

For example, what is the relationship between these two individuals?
Answer: Northern Trust Corporation was involved in the Tony Rezko – assisted purchase of the Obama homestead in Chicago.
Others have noted how Michelle Obama’s salary increased dramatically when Barack was elected Senator.
Both Michelle and her boss at the time were/are board members of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs.
