Sen. Barbara Boxer is readying her cap-and-tax monstrosity, and she is hoping to soften opposition among Climate Change Republicans. E&E News reports on the latest maneuvering, via Matt Dempsey at the US Senate Cmte on Environment and Public Works:
The Senate climate debate has largely been in standby mode since June, but Environment and Public Works Chairwoman Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) is ready to kick-start the process with the release next week of a draft bill.
Sources off Capitol Hill say they expect Boxer to start legislative hearings during the week of Oct. 5, with a tentative markup penciled in for the week of Oct. 12.
…While Senate Democrats have largely kept their focus on winning over their own, Kerry has also taken the lead in direct talks with Republicans. More negotiations are expected as the bill ripens and authors hope to also win over conservative Democratic Sens. Ben Nelson of Nebraska and Mary Landrieu of Louisiana.
“I’m feeling pretty good about the tactics, the strategy, that as much as possible, we’d like it to include Republicans,” Lautenberg said. “The one thing I believe, bipartisanship is a means, not an ends.”
As they prepare for their bill introduction, Boxer and Kerry are most likely looking for help from Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine), who currently is in the thick of the health care debate. Down the line, the Democrats are also hopeful they can satisfy other longtime climate advocates, including Sens. John McCain of Arizona, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Richard Lugar of Indiana.
“We think we can get Republican support for this bill,” Cardin added. “Not just one senator, but several.”
Lugar, the ranking member of the Foreign Relations Committee, said he is open to working with Democrats but dismissed a question on whether Republicans like himself and McCain were reluctant to sign up for a climate bill because it was among President Obama’s top domestic agenda items.
“I don’t know that we’ve pulled back,” Lugar said. “It’s just the formulation from the House I find objectionable on many grounds. Without jumping up and down any further, I think more constructive ways of fighting climate change can be found and I’ll be working to find it.”

None of this is about fighting “climate change”. That’s the excuse. It’s all about convincing the American public that they are fighting a “crisis” and using that fight to gain as much power over the public as they can. They hope to come out as “heroes”, until it’s too late for the public to realize how duped they were in surrendering the economy, liberty and freedom to the elites in government. It has happened again and again in world history and is still used today, with success.

Snowe is beyond being a “RINO”. She is an active member of the Demonrat Party who caucuses with the Republicans because she can best undermine conservative principles there.
The Southern Hemisphere polar ice cap has been growing for decades, and after reaching a recent minimum in 2007, the Northern Hemisphere ice pack has been growing.
Back in the 1950s, the ice pack was thin enough at the North Pole that nuclear submarines could surface.

But the socialists limit our drilling in ANWR, limit our drilling offshore, limit our access to oil shale, and, last but not least, make oil the “villain” in an utterly bogus “Man-made Global Warming” hoax.

I was listening to ABC News on KABC this morning and they were reporting (as a “breaking”-ish story) the revelation that the brother of ACORN’s co-founder had embezzled $1 million. As if it just happened. Apparently, someone at ABC has actually read Michelle’s book* as a source of “breaking stories” without attribution.
*(Their copy better not be autographed or I’ll go “singe botte” all over the room. Nome sane?)
I’ll believe Washington really wants to stop global warming when they start taking the restrictions off of nuclear power plants, electrical transmission lines, and solar generating stations in the desert. So far they’ve been consistently blocking all three, so the only conclusions I can reach are: 1) they don’t believe GW is a threat, and 2) they’re just using it as an excuse to pass more intrusive legislation to grab more federal power and get themselves money and votes.
If you are from Maine or have friends/relatives there – here is ALL Olympia Snowe needs to read to convince her of how ‘serious’ of a problem global warming is for the state of Maine.

I think part of the whole Global Warming thing is leftists convincing themselves that they are smarter than everybody else because only by their mighty intellects do they believe that whatever is the opposite of what is apparently true.
Put another way, any rube can look at the decline in global temperature and conclude that AGW is a load of crap. But it takes a profound intellect, the lefties tell themselves, to see that cooling temperatures actually prove the opposite… that the Earth is getting warmer.
Just like any rube can look at the history of socialism and see abject failure, but a leftist sees the real success behind the failure. And then he goes back to the rabbit patch to eat some more “smart berries.”
Whatever bill Boxer introduces, let’s hope we can get it delayed long enough for the public to read it like we did the health care bill, much to the chagrin of the Democrats. Remember, the climate has been changing for millions of years, we haven’t a moment to lose in passing this bill.

The oceans have a thermal mass over 1000 times that of the atmosphere and they are measured by satellite (MSU) and now ARGO buoys to have been COOLING for several years.
So there is now ZERO question that earth is cooling off. Because that leaves the eco-nitwits with no logical explanation they are asserting a non-logical explanation – AGW IS STILL IN THERE but…you just cannot see it right now because of the extreme natural forces that are causing the cooling at the moment.

Solar Panels – Obviously cannot be placed under trees and obviously cannot help the environment if placed over trees. So put em in the desert? Maybe that not such a good place either..

I seem to recall reading somewhere that France RECYCLES its nuclear waste. If true, then what further arguments do the wackos have against it? The safety issue seems to be solved, at least to an acceptable level. So what else is wrong with nuclear???
You have to be careful throwing around that word ‘clean’ these days. Just like the word ‘gay’ used to mean carefree and delightful, the word ‘clean’, in regard to coal fired power plants, used to mean free of soot and pollutants.
That is until the EPA decided that CO2 is somehow a ‘pollutant’, (even though breathing 40,000PPM of this ‘pollutant’ CO2 into someone, 100 times the amount of ‘pollutant’ that is in the atmosphere, can save their life via mouth to mouth resuscitation), thus making the word ‘clean’ to mean in some econitwit circles the capture and sequestering of CO2 from the exhaust which is, by all accounts, an economic fantasy requiring more energy than the coal provides. (Somewhat like the ‘biofuel’ lie; needs more energy to make than what it provides…)
For me, as a mechanical engineer, it comes down to a matter of who I can trust. Right now I just do not trust the US government to oversee nuclear power safety. Their heavily politicized methodology for design review is the same thing that gave us the Challenger space shuttle disaster for example. Fix THAT problem and I’m all in.

Thank you for contacting me regarding climate change. I appreciate knowing your thoughts on this issue.
According to extensive international scientific studies, including reports by the National Academy of Sciences and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, dramatic increases in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere are causing global temperatures to rise. Human activities, including the burning of fossil fuels, are the primary source of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions in our atmosphere.
As Americans, we can no longer ignore our significant contribution to this foremost environmental threat. The United States must act responsibly to address this issue and work to preserve the global environment for future generations. It is also essential that we maintain our leadership role as the world moves toward an international market for greenhouse gas reductions.
Climate change legislation has been the subject of Senate debate for a number of years. As you may know, Senator Lieberman and I have been working to pass legislation to address this critical issue since 2003. Most recently, in January 2007 Senator Lieberman and I introduced S. 280, the Climate Change Stewardship and Innovation Act of 2007. This bill placed a limit on the amount of greenhouse gases companies could emit and established a market-based trading program. The trading system proposed under S. 280 allowed companies to buy or sell emissions units. A company that reached the required levels in certain emissions would have been able to trade emissions “credits” with a company was struggling to meet emissions requirements. Without a market-based greenhouse gas emissions program, it would be increasingly difficult for U.S. companies to operate abroad and to maintain their position as leaders in the global marketplace.
Earlier this year, President Obama released his budget plan, which relies upon raising nearly $650 billion dollars of revenues from a climate credits auction. This large revenue producing mechanism was not the cap-and-trade system I had envisioned. The President’s proposal of auctioning one hundred percent of the carbon credits is bad economic policy that would cost businesses billions of dollars and allow for little to no transition into a low carbon system.
More recently, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 2454, the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009. While I still believe that climate change is a critical issue that must be addressed, some significant changes will have to be made to this legislation before I can support passage of similar in the Senate. However, please be assured that I will keep your views in mind as I work together with my fellow Senators and the Administration to negotiate a successful method of addressing this critical issue

He was treated well by his captors, who called him “the prince.” They gave him special treatment because he collaborated with them.
He also has the worst voting record of any democrat – a 100% liberal voting record. He’s even to the left of Barack Obama and Dennis Kucinich!
I agree that developing nuclear, wind, and solar power is worthwhile, if a cost-benefit analysis – including objective energy payback time and net environmental impact analyses, but I don’t believe many of this bill’s proponents have done or requested these.
I also think we should develop our own petroleum and natural gas resources fully, to help our economy, improve our security, and enable us to transition smoothly to clean energy usage.
It is unfortunate that legitimate environmental concerns have been largely superseded by political and special interest considerations. This cap and trade bill will, it seems, be very detrimental to our economy and security, and may not yield significant environmental benefits.
Thank GOD that the climate started cooling again enough to disprove all these MORONS who actually believe the tiny amount of CO2 that humans add to the atmosphere, a beneficial gas that keeps plants alive, can cause “global warming”. Keep arming yourselves with the FACTS.
And here is a new one from JAXA, (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency Earth Observation Research Center), to further undermine this silly AGW theory, a trend that refutes one of the nitwits’ last bastions of ‘hope’ – Arctic Sea Ice. ARCTIC SEA ICE EXTENT HAS NOW RETURNED TO A 2005 LEVEL
Force the nitwits to look at that chart every chance you get. Satellite recon has been monitoring arctic ice since 2002. Right now, the ice extent matches that of 2005 at this time of year. It is greater than what it was in 2008 which was greater than what it was in 2007.
2006 was a slight out-lier with a little more ice than 2005 but the trend shows me that we will likely pass 2006 in about a month.
When/if that happens – they absolutely have ZERO to hang their hat on. They have LOST virtually every single argument they have tried to float to somehow ‘prove’ the earth is still warming to thereby be able to claim that there was still a possibility that human CO2 might somehow be responsible. Four years of GROWING arctic sea ice is a trend they will try to squirm and deny but facts are pesky things like all the other facts that do not support their claim. First they said the atmosphere was not cooling but their lying was overwhelmed by the data. So they turned to ocean heat but then the data showing LOSS of ocean heat slapped them again. They already lost their silly assertion about Greenland ice; they lost on Antarctica temperature, lost on hurricane correlation, lost on net drought, lost on projected CO2 level, lost on disease, lost on sea level rise, (they are just a bunch of whining LOSERS, and now…Arctic ice is returning.
IT’S TIME TO STICK A STAKE IN HEART OF THIS UGLY SOCIALIST HOAX!

Here John I found a solid source for you, a report from the US Dept of Energy “Emissions of Greenhouse Gases in the United States 2005″.
See “Table 3. Global natural and anthropogenic sources” on page 27 of the total document (page 6 of subpart 1. “US Emissions of Greenhouse Gases Background and Context”
These numbers are from the IPCC 2001. Example for CO2 in millions of metric tons:
Natural sources – 770,000
Human made – 23,100
Total = 793,100
23100/793100 = 2.9%
So even the grossly inflated IPCC assessment of human emission puts it at under 3%.
How is even 3% considered to be primary John McCain?
Lee, I hope you will reply to McCain noting the above analysis from the IPCC itself that totally decimates his assertion.
