I wonder how much funding I could get to complete my Surrealist painting tentatively titled Take a Number: No Amnesty for a Photosynthesized Collective in a Crowded Waiting Room?

Red State Skeptic said:

So quite frankly, boycotting Mandella isn’t exactly a bad thing to do.

We’re talking about 1991 here, three years before he was even elected President. Are you that naive as to why Jesse Helms decided to boycott such a prominent symbol of racial harmony?

Maybe you should go back to the late 80's after Mandela was released and take a look at the violence that ensued.

I don't know exactly what Helms' motive was. If it was simply because Mandela was black, then Helms is (was) a racist jack-ass.

My point is not Helms motive but the issue of boycotting Mandela. Because based on what I know about his past, he was not always a bastion of piece and racial unity. And while I wouldn't go so far as to call him a terrorist, he and his associates took part in acts that, at the very least, bordered on it.

Yes, S.African blacks had cause to rise up, but they became (even in the late 80's) as bad as their oppressors. And what followed... to this day... is continued chaos.

I’m sorry, I must have missed that day in civics class where we learned that the executive branch writes the budget and appropriations laws.

I bet you read about the VETO; Presidents who are more interested in "Getting Along" than standing for principal do not use it enough. If shutting down government is what it takes to kill these phony creations then lets us hope SOMEONE does it.

We need a broad ax to the Federal Government. The National Endowment for Obama/Arts, whatever, never should have been.

I'm not passing judgment personally, but Mandela has proudly admitted to terrorism to forward his agenda. Would you suggest we freedom-loving Americans do the same to forward ours?

As an artist, myself, I depend on the free market for my trade. The NEA has indeed shot itself in the foot by funding projects that don't appeal to Americans.

Art has the office of leading in culture. Not in politics, though. That's for the graphics folks.

The Obama administration couldn't insult fine artists more, IMO. He is using the NEA for his own reasons, and the focus is supposed to be art! Typically, everything is about him.

FDR used the WPA to employ artists, too. Complaints were made regarding the political nature of some projects. Unfortunately, the precedent was set...

I'll add that Laura Bush did a great job with NEA and White House arts support. I followed the link above about Masters, and it didn't uncover crappy art. Very much the opposite.

For a long time now, Congress critters have had to have a law to keep them from wrongdoing.

Now the Waffle in Chief needs a law to keep him from using his cabinet officers from politiking on the job.

Damn we need more laws, I tell you!!
