Ho-hum: Just another illegal alien jihadi suspect
From the Dallas Morning News, an illegal alien from Jordan was arrested in Italy, Texas for plotting to bomb a skyscraper after coming to the U.S. specifically to commit jihad.
I’m sure the State Department and DHS will be all over the consular officials and immigration enforcement lapses that led to his entrance into the country and ability to work and blend in a la the 9/11 Visa Express beneficiaries!
Federal authorities arrested a 19-year-old Jordanian citizen whom they said placed an inactive car bomb today at Fountain Place, a 60-story skyscraper in downtown Dallas.
Hosam Maher Husein Smadi has repeatedly voiced his intent to serve Osama bin Laden and al-Qa’ida and commit “violent Jihad,” authorities said in a prepared statement.
“Today’s arrest of Hosam Maher Husein Smadi underscores the FBI’s unwavering commitment to bring to justice persons who attempt to bring harm to citizens of this country and significant danger to this community,” special FBI agent in charge Robert E. Casey, Jr. said in the statement. “Smadi made a decision to act to commit a significant conspicuous act of violence under his banner of ‘self Jihad.’”
Authorities said that Smadi was under continuous FBI surveillance. Federal agents posed as members of an al-Qa’ida sleeper cell. Smadi, who was in the U.S. illegally, allegedly told them that he came to the country specifically to commit “Jihad for the sake of God.”
According to authorities, Smadi identified potential Dallas targets in June and allegedly scoped out Fountain Place in July. Authorities said that Smadi lived and worked in Italy, about 45 miles south of Dallas.

I went to a truck driving school to see about a career change. The instructor works closely with the FBI. The FBI is very concerned about trucks as there are so many. The document is fascinating, just as the work of zealots is always fascinating. As a high priest of the politically correct orthodoxy, McChrystal has laid out a strategy to combat Taliban jihad in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan without once mentioning Islam, and forget about jihad (fireable offense No. 1).
The resulting black hole leads the commander to conclude, for example, that the reason the 99 percent-plus Muslim people of Afghanistan are “reluctant to align with us” is due to the “perception” — eight years and untold billions in largesse after we entered the country — “that our resolve is uncertain.” Nothing so simple as what a member of the Afghan parliament recently told the Economist: “The Taliban tell them the Koran says they have to fight the Crusaders and they believe them.”
No, it’s all our fault. Seizing on the Left’s all-time favorite villain, the general blames us — our troops — for the Afghan people not liking us. And that, according to the report, is why we’re losing this war (fireable offense No. 2).

No. The gist of the argument is that it is simplistic and simply wrong to say that a president bears sole responsibility for what happens the second he steps into office. Whether that be fomenting terrorist activity or an economy. I just wish there was some consistency in applying this principle.
What actions did Bush take that made us less safe and allowed 9/11 to happen? We can point to changes in priority and funding that have taken place under the Obama administration.
The fact is that the “Bush kept us safe” argument comes from his reaction to 9/11, not to any efforts to prevent it or lack thereof.
One cannot deny that national security is not the priority for the Obama administration that it was for the Bush administration.
Those deer don’t respect our borders and come wandering south to eat our begonias. Something has to be done, and if it means more crime in Arizona, well, you’ll just have to live with it.

I have heard speculation that the “wall” Jamie Gorelick established, that kept the CIA and FBI form exchanging information, was actually meant to shut down an investigation of illegal contributions from the Peoples Republic of China for Clinton and Gore.
Gorelick was on the 9-11 commission, so that possibility was never investigated.
Not to mention her getting rich as Fannie collapsed.
