I’ve been under the weather most of the day. Up late last night with feverish son. Hope you all are feeling better than we are! Talk amongst yourselves.

Does anyone else ever wonder if sometimes things like this are being taken a little too far?

No. This is wonderful. In the same way that the 20th century saw amazing achievements in computing, the 21st century could see amazing achievements in biology, medicine, and in this particular case, neurology.

One day we may be able to cure blindness (for example) or repair serious neurological problems.

I think it would be quite a long time this information would be of much use in treating neurological problems. They’re examining higher-level brain functions here, which are ridiculously complex. It seems like long before we’re able to use that information for curing things, it would be possible to use it as a nasty interrogation tool.

I don’t know, anything that smacks of being able to see into private thoughts doesn’t sit too well with me.

I hear, here in Orygun, the schools are partly responsible for the nursing shortage. The schools are pushing for 4 years degrees rather than 2 yrs. and letting the nurses continue their education if they so desire.

It’s OK, Michelle is under the weather and has a sick child to care for. I don’t care it carries though all next week as long as she and JD are feeling better.

And that was part of one of his speeches as POTUS, not on his campaign! Can you imagine ANY other President of this country acting like that? Gag.

This man is not a President, he is a community activist. We knew that when we decided NOT to vote for this inexperienced rookie upstart. Too bad the majority of morons in this country didn’t do their homework on this imposter. His foreign policy decisions alone will get a lot of our citizens killed. This usurper can do a lot of damage in 4 years.

I do know nurses in major hospitals are stretched thin-cost cutting.
The problem, I hear, isn’t that there is cost-cutting, as much as there is a shortage. Too many older, experienced nurses are quitting/retiring, and not enough new nurses coming in to replace them. There seems to be a shortage of schools, and especially instructors, to cope with all the students who want nursing degrees. Waiting lists seem to be the norm. To help with the problem, some foreign nurses are being imported in, to help. This seems to be for RNs. I don’t know about the LPN programs. I will say I have known some LPNs, I would rather work with, than some RNs. They seem to be more patient-oriented, rather than ladder-climbers. My experience.

I hear that medical assistants (certified and AA) are the new lpns, and that the latter is on the way out. Just the scuttlebutt.

All technology can be abused, from the wheel to the atom bomb. Many years ago, flight didn’t sit well with some folks. Let’s not try and halt progress with these ancient arguments.

I understand what you are saying. You are expressing concern over the power of this technology to pry into the mind itself. I am making the point that just about every ground breaking technology experienced similiar feedback, ie, “this is just wrong.” You are entitled to your opinion, but to answer your earlier question, no I don’t think it’s going to far. Now, if the state was to try and use this technology in civil proceedings (for example), then yes, that’s going to far.
