Talking back to Hollywood blowhards

Hollywood and MoveOn.org had their say.

Now, Americans who don’t drink the Obamacare kool-aid have theirs. Kudos!

Here is one that I was surprised about:

Kathy Griffin made no secret of showing her support for Barack Obama during the presidential election last year, but it seems the comedian isn’t so impressed with how he’s performed in the top job so far.

“I would like to see him listen more to middle America. They’re trying to have their voice heard but they’re being dismissed as a mob or Astroturf or different things. I have quite a few friends who are in those tea parties and it is not people who are Republican or Democrat, they’re Americans who are deeply concerned about how much in debt we are going to be as a nation,” Griffin told Tarts at the recent Entertainment Tonight party in Downtown Los Angeles. “I would love to hear him listen to them more. It is a huge issue and I don’t want to ruin (my daughter’s) future because she’s going to be saddled with my bills. That’s a bipartisan thing. The Democrats don’t do it and the Republicans don’t do it. We need to go back to the old fashioned way of you pay for it as you go along.”

I don’t care for Kathy Griffin’s politics most of the time, but even she is honest enough to call it as she sees it.

Never have understood how pretending to be something you are not makes anyone and expert and spokes person for governmental affairs. I might begin to understand why the self centered egotistical actors and actresses might think what they have to say is “SO” important; but, I can’t begin to understand why anyone else would give them a hearing. The actors and actresses are simply amusement (opposite of musing [meditating]) entertainers. They are paid to entertain us so we do not have to think and get away for a short season. When we get back to reality, we are suppose to think things through.

Maybe many have become to accustomed to being amused and told how to think, they have lost the art of meditation or mulling something over in your mind a while and coming to an independant conclusion.

I know, that was long, windy, and too deep. Thanks Michelle, for letting us vent a bit.

Treating celebrities like experts is what leads congress to have actors from movies about “important issues” testify before their committies.

So actors that have no education or experience in science, “advise” congress that we need to curb “global warming” because they starred in some movie.

Now they’re telling us how wonderful socialism is, without first suffering through socialism’s pernicious effects. Why doesn’t congress get people from Venezuela, Zimbabwe, Cuba, and North Korea to testify about how well their health care systems are and how good socialism is in general.

So now we’ll have to suffer, once socialism is implemented here.

    Thanks, scumbags!

Perhaps. I have the same view of this as I do the Funny or Die video. Neither is likely to make a dent in changing anyone’s mind; however, it’s humorous, to me at least, for average Joes to mock celebrities for acting as though everyone should listen to them because they’re celebrities.

I agree that it moved into having a message of its own, but clearly the folks that made this had an agenda to defeat the public option and not just to point out the hypocrisy. MoveOn could have done their video with ‘regular’ people, but they partnered up with Farrell and other actor/comedians instead. It makes sense that opponents should use that against them.

I thought they did a decent job of underscoring that while President Obama and others keep talking about “choice” and more competition, they avoid discussing the language around mandates which would fine individuals for not getting coverage. A mandate that requires that you purchase health insurance takes away one very significant choice and it’s a major component to paying for the public option.

This video is a total mockery of the Hollywood video. Their rebuttals are not meant for anyone to follow – they are rebuttals directly to the celebrities. That’s it. It is very simple. They are not trying to sway people. They are answering the first video shot by shot, line by line, “fact” by “fact,” etc. It’s supposed to be humorous, and point out exactly how dumb this type of ad really is. It is not meant to be a message of its own. And again, it is really aimed directly at the celebs.
