MCGusto -
This video is a total mockery of the Hollywood video. Their rebuttals are not meant for anyone to follow - they are rebuttals directly to the celebrities. That's it. It is very simple. They are not trying to sway people. They are answering the first video shot by shot, line by line, "fact" by "fact," etc. It's supposed to be humorous, and point out exactly how dumb this type of ad really is. It is not meant to be a message of its own. And again, it is really aimed directly at the celebs.

    That’s kind of the point. Educate yourself and make up your own mind. Don’t just blindly follow celebrities.</blockquote>

It started out that way, pointing out the hypocrisy of it all, but then it slowly traveled into the same territory. Just see the comment I referred to before yours. People are looking at them as credible because they aren’t famous. I guess it worked, huh?
</blockquote>

Perhaps. I have the same view of this as I do the Funny or Die video. Neither is likely to make a dent in changing anyone's mind; however, it's humorous, to me at least, for average Joes to mock celebrities for acting as though everyone should listen to them because they're celebrities.

I agree that it moved into having a message of its own, but clearly the folks that made this had an agenda to defeat the public option and not just to point out the hypocrisy. MoveOn could have done their video with 'regular' people, but they partnered up with Farrell and other actor/comedians instead. It makes sense that opponents should use that against them.

I thought they did a decent job of underscoring that while President Obama and others keep talking about "choice" and more competition, they avoid discussing the language around mandates which would fine individuals for not getting coverage. A mandate that requires that you purchase health insurance takes away one very significant choice and it's a major component to paying for the public option.

Of course!

Why pay attention to down-to-earth regular people who could be my next-door neighbors and who are genuinely funnier — when I could have my intelligence insulted by a bunch of hugely overpaid, full-of-themselves, lying, arrogant TV stars. Hmm?
</blockquote>

Not being a celebrity doesn't make someone more entitled to my attention, nor does it mean they are somehow more intellectually honest.

Overpaid? The market dictates how much these guys make.

Want to know why youths act and think as they do? Never underestimate the power of pop role models!

I was shopping a few years ago with a former teacher neighbor who was looking in disgust at black boys/young men wearing infamous "doo-rags" and related how much esteem and value the kids placed on them in class. "Where in heaven did this foolishness all start??" I told her it didn't come out of the blue -- like most all bad "free expression" - but from just one stupid basketball player wearing one at a game almost twenty years ago. Ditto slumped pants and "dreadlocks" (oh, all the gibe about how Scarlet O'Hara "stole" the style!) and on and on. So yes -- role models DO count. Just have to applaud the right ones more!
