And Nike too -

Nike, meanwhile, makes most of its shoes and apparel in 700 contract factories in countries such as South Korea and Vietnam—which also won't sign up for the Boxer-Kerry energy tax. The larger point is that neither Apple nor Nike would pay as much under a cap-and-trade bill as, say, the maker of Bobcat excavators in Bismarck, N.D., or your average Midwest natural gas utility. Green virtue is easier when someone else is paying for it.

Now I’m depressed.

Me too. I grew up on Macs, have a lot of respect for their innovations and even bought stock wayyy back. That thing about investing in companies you believe in ...
Now, I'll have to decide whether to sell the stock ... just like I did when I sold my General Electric stock a few years ago. Principles ...

Appreciate the tips on other phones/MP3s etc.

Now I'm depressed.

I'm far from being a liberal snob, but I had an eMac, and now a MacBook. Just bought a grandson a MacBook Pro to use in college. Did I do a bad thing?

BTW, I found an online source for things made in America. Their list is quite long, but I haven't had time to explore all the products and companies listed, so I don't know about computers. All I wanted was pajamas. lol Check out americanmadeyes.com if you're interested.

It's exasperating to see commercials from corn flakes to computer networks to bottlers falling all over another hailing how "green" and "natural" they are. I can't watch Campbell soup commercials anymore because they sound like I'm eating at a clinic instead of a restaurant.

The entire cap-an-tax plan will ultimatly require stiff import taxes for products produced in countries that do not have the same enviro-whacko positions.

This might just be Apple's last desperate gasp to push others into the same importing position that they are now in.

Apple makes a large number of disposable, or practically so, products - which contain un-replaceable or exorbitantly priced batteries, and so have no business preaching Green to anyone. Batteries are among the most toxic items we dispose of.
