Stanford U. doesn’t want you to see this video
Via Marc Morano at Climate Depot comes word that Stanford University is trying to cover for one of its leading eco-extremists:
Stanford University has banned a skeptical documentary film from airing a climate change interview with one of its prominent warming activist professors, Stephen Schneider. After legal threats from Stanford University — apparently on behalf of Prof. Schneider — the documentary filmmakers were forced to use a blank screen and an actor had to read the transcript of Schneider’s already taped but legally banned climate interview. The skeptical global warming documentary “Not Evil Just Wrong”, set for its international premier on October 18, 2009, interviewed Schneider about his flip-flop from a coming ice age proponent in the 1970s to his current advocacy of man-made global warming fears. Schneider is a professor of biological sciences at Stanford University. (email: shswebsite@lists.stanford.edu)
Irish filmmaker Phelim McAleer told Climate Depot: “Lawyers for Stanford University have tried to ban our documentary from reporting on how one of their professors previously predicted an imminent ice-age, but is now a leading global warming advocate.” (Schneider joins others like Obama Science Czar John Holdren. See: Climate Depot’s Factsheet on 1970s Coming ‘Ice Age’ Claims — ‘Fears of a coming ice age, showed up in peer-reviewed literature, at scientific conferences, by prominent scientists and throughout the media’)

Chicken Little with tenure. Laughable.
Wake Forest whopped Stanford in football this year.
That’s all that matters. FWIW, Stanford is currently undefeated in Pac10 play and is rapidly becoming the favorite to win the Pac10 this year.
I hate their tree mascot, but it didn’t make the trip to Winston Salem.
If global warming religion is used as a mechanism to manipulate and oppress, not evil in what way?
Quite a slogan so many university have come up with: “Searching for the Truth That Fits the Currently Popular Politically Correct Lie“.
Not Just Wrong but Evil Too. Why so many are afraid to call a liar a liar does mystify. When we are afraid to call a liar a liar, a marxist a marxist or a child rapist a child rapist we are enabling the scum. If we let the Left define the rules of argument we lose.
Just say NO to the John McCain/Lady Lindsey Rules For Cowards.
Loveland ski resort opens today — the earliest in the season in 40 years. Arapahoe Basin ski resort is opening this Friday. The earliest they’ve EVER opened.
‘Global Warming’ my aspen!
About the only place redeemable on this campus is the Hoover Institution.
I’m surrounded by whack jobs: Faculty, Staff and Coworkers.
Should we start using CFCs and freon again?
Global warming is still a profitable view to many…like professors and their tenures and grant money, politicians and power, and celebrities and profit. When it all dies down, we’ll be back to global cooling.
Thacker Agency, you know the Mascot used to be an Injun, right? Couldn’t have that. Too politically IN-correct!
Right after DDT.
The Left cares more about junk science than they do 1 million African children per year.
Remember when Stanford’s football team used to be *GASP* The Stanford INDIANS?
Why do people like this have jobs with any influence on public policy whatsoever? He should be a clerk in a museum somewhere.
How much does Stanford increase their annual tuition to cover the salaries of dopes like this?
Global climate change is a red herring. This is about redistribution of wealth on a world-wide basis. Warming suits the agenda better than cooling.
So what is it? Is my refridgerator and air conditioner causing man-made global cooling or warming?
He’s too out-of-his-mind to make-up his mind!
Didn’t you hear? Evil is an outmoded concept.
Want to oppress billions through faux science? Want to legalize the systematic rape of young boys by perverted old men? Want to raid the treasury to benefit your friends?
Well, lucky for you, you were born into the 21st Century and the “Age of Obama” where all these things are okay and will get you a cushy government job while you are furthering your mission!
my grants depend upon problems and crisis. sooo global warming, then global cooling, then global neutrality with a chance of rain.
Yeah, well we also played a local team named Elon. They are Div AA, but they have strong academics and I thought about attending law school there. I live 10 mins from the school.
The point. . . Elon changed their name from the ‘Fighting Christians‘ to ‘the Phoenix’ about 10 years ago because it was ‘offensive’. They were ‘fighting Christians’ for a hundred years.
Gag me and call me a winner whatever the name of the mascot is.
Based on what they probably teach at Elon these days I, as a Christian, would probably find them offensive and appreciate their changing their mascot.
I wonder if Stanford will change their name to “Atheist, Stark Raving Lunatics Who Will Believe Anything As Long As It Gets Me My Next Grant.”
It doesn’t roll off the tongue but it seems more appropriate.
No need to bash an EXPENSIVE, little known, high quality school in North Carolina because they wanted to be known as the ‘Fighting Christians’ in the early 20′s.
It might not be this way everywhere, but most universities (private) here in the south were built around the Church. . . or a Church is the center of campus.
Make no mistake, we love God and Christ around here, and we proudly tell people that in many different ways.
They didn’t change the name because of offending Christians. They changed the name because of the non-Christians. Judging the quality or authenticity of Christians is not a pre-requisite of Christianity down here.
Yeah, not only did I believe it back then, I said it too! But if you use images of my mouth saying either one, I’ll sue you.
climate change covers all the bases, that stanford is covering up for one of its professor’s, is shameful. stanford would rather stop debate than address the issue. is it getting hot or cold, or is the eco zealot professor just agenda driven and states what he is paid to say, not what is accurate. little by little once prestigious universities are becoming very mediocre and a total waste of money. universities are known by the professors they hire and it would seem that the excellent ones have become agenda driven frauds, claiming excellence while all along becoming shallow, superficial and very ordinary.
But Where’re The Counter-Green Forces?
What concerns me is that a lot of public opinion and “education” about this issue is derived from “in the green tank” media sources such as the Science/Discovery Channel and Animal/Green Planet and National Geographic Channels, along with online ones as Live Science and Space News which go totally unchallenged within those channels and out. It’s absolutely incredible to me that they hawk Gore with all their often dated alarmist programming, complete with zero favorable coverage on “evil” nuclear energy and crowning white hats on windmills while lavishly strutting out eco mascot polar bears and whales to tug the heartstrings but not the brain.
It’s totally unreal they get away with misinforming the masses so.

Yeah, and Harvard was a Christian college at one point too. And it had a big church in the center. And we see where Harvard is today.
I don’t need to be lectured on the South since I am a proud Southerner.
Don’t you know that when it’s extraordinarily hot, that’s “climate”, but when it’s extraordinarily cold, that’s “weather”. Jeez. Learn to tell the difference.
The steamy casting couch screen tests, however, have been saved and are now making the rounds on FLICKR!
Fast forward to 6:03 on this video and you’ll see Mr. Schneider in all his bellbottomed glory talking about what to do and what not to do to stop the coming ice age.
Ozone depletion is causing massive intelligence loss in academia.
Sadly, there is no cure for stupid.
If Mrs. Malkin thought that THIS was embarassing for Stanford University, she’s probably not aware of this article that appeared in last month’s Stanford magazine. (Cover shot can be seen here.)
It is SUCH an embarassment that they actually CELEBRATE the fact that Valerie Jarrett is a Stanford alumni. They’re always trying to out-Berkeley Berkeley. It’s pathetic really.

LOL, fairy; it’s the same on any campus.
I remember all the hype about the 70′s global deep freeze. Just like we have a nut job who wants to paint rooftops white, we had nuts wanting to blacken the ice to get it to melt. Reminding people that we didn’t freeze back then shows that chicken little is alive and well and teaching others. There is way too much junk science and stupid professors wanting 15 minutes of fame.
Perhaps a cure for global warming is to have its proponents undergo leeching, another outdated concept.
With regard to media propaganda, the History Channel last year did an honest, scientifically valid program on the earth’s natural history. Among other things, it pointed out that the earth was consistently warmer than it is now until around 2 million years ago when volcanic activity created the Isthmus of Panama and blocked tropical ocean currents. It furthermore predicted that in 15,000 years, the glaciers will be back in the Temperate Zone to flatten Manhattan no matter how much greenhouse gases we emit.
I’m going to burn some styrofoam on a bed of tires to warm up the planet. It’s so cold out today!

My pet peeve, sorry. Alumni is plural, alumnus male singular and for a woman I believe the singular alumna is ok. No, I didn’t study Latin, yes, I am tempted to rear-end every car in America with one of those stupid license plate holders that says Proud Alumni or whatever and doesn’t have at least two occupants…
Now, back to bashing the idiot at Stanford…
I don’t understand how they can be banned from showing the interview. I am sure plenty of people wanted to take back their parts in Borat, but they couldn’t (I assume). And I bet most people who have appeared in Michael Moore’s “documentaries” would like to do the same, but can’t.
Actually this is not a bad idea.
How does this become a Stanford bashing thread? The university leans right friends.
To walk the grounds there is to feel greatness.
Save the anti-university angst for a real bastion of liberalism across the Bay, Cal Berkeley.
Cybercipher and Spaceycakes,
On Sept 11th, I brought in my book on 9/11/2001 by Eaton Press. One Philipina was looking thru it and saw the pic of when President Bush was told. She said, laughingly, `He shouldn’t be in there.’ Another Latina coworker said, `They should have taken his picture out of there.’ I did respond. I said, `No, he was the President at the time…’ These young women think they are educated, think more of what others will think about them. Well, actually, they are not thinking individuals at all and are typical of the Staff I work with.
So call me racist. Then say it 10more times. Then 25 more. I’m not afraid of words. It’s time to take back the language. Like global warming when it’s cooling. Meatheads!
Aloha Guy, The guy who wants to paint the roofs (?Steven Chu?) worked at Lawrence-Livermore Lab (greater Bay Area). Where there are actual Rocket Scientists. He’s turning out to be another nut job.
Fire Blogger, I want to work where you do. I work at the Children’s Hospital. And have you picked up a copy of the Univ. newspaper lately? The whole of the leadership at this Hosp is goo-goo mush heads. They live by the Marx motto:
History is nothing. Or was it Lenin?
The problem is that these tax eaters are beholden to those that pay them. They should be applying the scientific method, which is – reproducible results. However, instead of applying science to this, they show us graphs from computer models as proof of “climate change.” No intelligent person believes that a computer model can predict the future. There is always a built-in bias. Besides, if the future can be predicted, then how about some lottery numbers or the next Super Bowl winner?
Did you hear what this moronic professor said? Basically, you can’t live anywhere because it’s bad all over! Mountains aren’t safe, valleys aren’t safe, coastlines aren’t safe, etc., etc.
End tenure. Get these political hacks out of teaching.
I work at a large university in flyover country.
There’s not much difference between faculty & staff except a degree.
Agree on Chu, but reflecting sunlight off the roof rather than absorbing it can keep your building cooler in summer, and reduce your air-conditioning bill a bit.
Especially in the sense that, if all the rooftops and streets in cities are painted white, it will prove how WRONG the GISS applied their UHI (urban heat island effect) corrections to the surface temperature record as they did for example for Santa Rosa, (blue is the original un-doctored USHCN data, red is the doctored GISS data). More…
If urban temperature data is taken OUT of the temperature record, ‘global warming’ looks more like this.
Anthony Watts has done an outstanding job figuring out just how badly our surface temperature record is tainted by UHI and he deserves an award for proving that there is .. NO CRISIS.
The better idea is to plant trees all over the place because, instead of reflecting heat or absorbing heat to emit later, they just grow and keep things cool.
Really.. we have to push Lindsey Graham OFF the pickle boat altogether. He doesn’t have a brain and therefore doesn’t deserve to call himself a republican.
Lindsey, if there is not ONE iota of empirical data to indicate that ALL GHG cause global warming let alone the TINY amount that we add to them then WHY CREATE AN “ATTRACTION” TO SUPPORT A LIE?
I love “secret adjustments” as a scientific tool…
I like trees too.
I doubt it would amount to much savings. As far as climate, consider how small a number the total roof space is vs. area of planet (3/4 is H2O). Seems pretty stupid just by using simple reasoning. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to detect stupidity.
The savings on my roof are mine. I’m not talking about lowering global temps.
Okay, I will grant that I have heard evidence of lighter roof colors deflecting heat, keeping temps cooler. He’s (Chu) still a goof if he was the one that wanted to also paint streets white. Talk about a waste of precious resources…the $ in man hours to do that! I’ve heard no Progressives saying the money would be better spent in a thousand other ways. It all comes back to a boondoggle waste of money and redistribution of wealth.
I graduated in 1965, just before they started burning the ROTC building, etc.
I did get to vote for Goldwater in ’64 though!! And Ronald Reagan FOUR times!
Irony of this story: the Stanford motto seems to have been dumped on the ash heap of history.
Valerie – I got that issue of the alumni/ae magazine the day the Van Jones story really broke – irony, indeed.
the documentary could’ve been called, “Cloudy with a chance of fruitcakes”
yep, another wacko environmentalist, Rachael Carson is still killing people with her junk science which has been proven DDT does not harm humans or Rachael’s precious eggs shells.
The theory it self is not evil, the professor may be or not be evil. Stanford repression of knowledge IS evil. Of course it is only protecting revenue streams, but choosing money over knowledge is evil for an institution of learning. But that “little” evil is nothing compared to the evil of those eagerly use this theory to rob people of FREEDOM…these people know that it is just an unproven theory, but grab it eagerly. Of course they have no problem renaming it from Global Warming to Climate Change….what ever…..as long as they can use it to KILL FREEDOM. Far to many people in our government believe that they and only they know how the masses must live, that they will not do so willingly so they must be forced,
