South Carolina is a beautiful, friendly state and doesn't deserve to have Ms. Obeyme within its borders. South Carolinians should consider themselves blessed!

On October 14th, 2009 at 2:15 pm, Red State Skeptic said: Don’t play dumb. Both Jefferson Davis and Alexander Stephens acknowledged as much before backtracking later on.

The slavery question was the vexed one which troubled the relations of the army and the people in all the border States. My own position was that of the party which had elected Mr. Lincoln. We disclaimed any purpose of meddling with the institution in the States which remained loyal to the Union, whilst we held it to be within the war powers of the government to abolish it in the rebellious States. We also took satisfaction in enforcing the law which freed the "contrabands" who were employed by their masters in any service within the Confederate armies. These principles were generally understood and acquiesced in by the West Virginians; but it was impossible to come to any agreement in regard to fugitive slaves who took refuge in our camps. The soldiers and many of the officers would encourage the negroes to assert their freedom, and would resist attempts to recapture them. The owners, if Union men, would insist that the fugitives should be apprehended and restored to them by military authority.

No matter what your personal opinions may be, the facts remain evident that slavery was not ended in the North (who was ostensibly fighting a war “only” or “primarily” to end slavery?) until nearly two full years had elapsed since the final and finally legal emancipation of the slaves in the South and was not fully ended until finally, in January of 1865, a constitutional amendment was passed making the abolishment of slavery complete … in the North where it had continued unabated throughout the war years.

Robert Byrd was a bigot for much of his life, but cannot quite come to grips with the fact that he has pulled a complete 180 during his last 25 years in office.

Red State Screwball: Oh, really? Are we to believe he had a "road to Damascus" moment?

I believe it was more of a "need to get re-elected moment!"

Obama is doing a fine job of undermining his own presidency. He needs no assistance from hooded GOP bumpkins. The wheelis of this little Marxist engine are slowly grinding to a halt.

Now if we can get ficticious, dead, illegal and illiterate people out of the voting booths we will be on our way to a free republic.

And that state that a) flies the confederate flag at the state house,

So what?

b) elected unrepentant segregationist Strom Thurmond for longer than the reign of the Roman Empire,

The Roman Empire was around for more than 800 years. I know you're trying to be cute.

c) still has cretins like Joe Wilson who defended the legacy of Thurmond and of the confederacy,

Southerners are not ashamed of the Confederacy. We are quite proud of our rebellion against having a bunch of rich Yankees telling us how to behave. The rebellion was not over slavery, sorry. You claim to be a Southerner, you should get out of the house more.

I only have two problems with SC.
1. Personal income tax.
2. CCW reciprocity with Florida.

Neither of those prevent me from visiting. Oddly enough, I don't think they're preventing the Obamas from visiting either.

PLEASE! KEEP MICHELLE OBAMA OUT OF SOUTH CAROLINA! WE DON'T NEED HER HERE! WE DON'T WANT HER HERE!

In fact, we don't even want Jim Clyburn here! We don't want Lindsey Graham here either. Why not ship all these thugs to Paraguay where Michelle O. can play with them all day?
