A message from NY-23 conservative candidate Doug Hoffman
(Note from Michelle: This is a special guest post from NY-23 conservative congressional candidate Doug Hoffman. Please spread the word about the Nov. 3 special election and show your support. All hands on deck!)
It’s time for conservatives to show the Republican establishment who’s in charge
By Doug Hoffman
There’s nothing like a drop in the polls to bring out a candidate’s principles.
With her numbers plummeting – and mine rising – and only three weeks left until the election in NY-23, Dede Scozzafava has decided she needs to change her stripes to get conservative votes.
Specifically, she’s changed her position on income taxes. One would have expected more hostility to taxes earlier in the campaign, since she had a leadership role in her brother’s company as it racked up almost $200,000 in unpaid tax liens. But alas.
On August 18 Scozzafava’s campaign called my signing of the Taxpayer Protection Pledge a “stunt”:
Matthew A. Burns, campaign spokesman for Republican candidate Dierdre K. Scozzafava, said Mr. Hoffman’s pledge was a “stunt,” and did not indicate if his candidate would sign.
On October 1 Scozzafava herself publicly promised not to sign the pledge:
Scozzafava said she won’t sign the pledge because the income tax is just one form of tax, and that more people could be impacted if, for example, you refuse to increase income taxes under any circumstances but raise other taxes or fees instead.
But after two weeks of conservatives and independents abandoning her in droves to support my campaign, she has had a foxhole conversion:
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Dede Scozzafava, a Republican running in New York’s 23rd Congressional district, recently signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge sponsored by Americans for Tax Reform (ATR).
I wouldn’t want to interrupt this show of steely principled resolve, but isn’t it slightly problematic to break a promise in the act of making another promise? Is there any lesson here except that Dede Scozzafava will say or sign whatever she thinks is mostly likely to get her elected?
I don’t think conservatives will be fooled. The more they learn about Dede Scozzafava, the worse she does in the polls. And the more they learn about my campaign, the better we do.
We can win this thing, but we’re up against limited time and an awful RNC and NRCC decision to support a liberal candidate.
Well, if the Republican Party wants to declare war against conservatives, I’m going to fight on the side of conservatives.
If you want to join my fight, I need you. We need money and we need volunteers – boots on the ground. If you can help, go to my website and sign up. Then show up.
It’s time for conservatives to show the Republican establishment who’s in charge.

I didn’t say there weren’t any examples, sweetie. But your answer is hilarious in the same way the new GOP website shows what a diverse party it was back in the 1800’s. Do you have any examples from this century (or the last)?
Good for you! You get a cookie! Meanwhile, a Democrat is going to win a district that a Democrat has absolutely no business winning because you are splitting the vote. And you think that R is meaningless if he/she is not conservative enough? Tell me…do you think we would even be discussing a viable health care bill if the Speaker of the House had an R after his name?(you know…the guy that would be elected by a bunch of other people with Rs after their name) .
do you have any evidence of intelligence there honey pie? huh sugar plum?
who cares? if the republican would win it would be the same as the democrat!! DUHHHHHHH. Unlike the way you slavishly bend over for the democrats, (and its REAL OBVIOUS) I don’t for the republicans.
shazam, you figured it out there gomer!!! good job!!!
lets see we had senior drug benefits, ‘no child left behind’ massive spending increases with republicans…do yeah it wouldn’t surprise me at all.
So I’ll take that as a “No” to my question. You go right on ahead and keep splittin’ that vote. Nothing would make liberals like me happier. Well, except maybe to eat your children’s souls served over a bed of frisee and arugula. But other than that, nothing would make us happier.
The sad part is we have been lied to by the GOP. For a decade now they have told us the were “conservative.” Yet how many GOP senators support every single Democrat initiate in open borders, cap and trade, raising taxes, health care, etc?
And now socialist, ambulance-chasing lawyer like Chappy is going to lecture Conservatives about why they ought to vote Republican? What a joke!
Stay tuned! It will probably get even more entertaining!
Folks like Chappy already nominated the last Republican candidate for President. They won’t be comfortable until they nominate all congressional candidates too!
I will sweety!! yeah I think you deserve the results of your policies…ever been to detroit? coming soon to a city (country) near you.
hope you enjoy your new dentist, Dr. PLIARS.
oh and I do hope you live in NYC or DC….you’ll get the full benefits of our foreign policy!! boom.
the GOP has discredited ‘conservatism’ in the minds of the average voter.
thats why it will be so hard for conservatism to ever come back in this country…
with friends like that…
Aren’t those only slightly less common than unicorns?
true, but I was thinking of Zell Miller.
Well…a lot more Republican Senators opposed all those things than third party Senators did.
Hell no! Vote 3rd party! Just expect to be about as successful as all those other successful third parties that r4l wants to name but is for some reason withholding.
Folks like Chappy that voted in the Democratic primary? Hmmmmm….
you know whats really stupid on your part is I didn’t even mention a third party until you brought it up….
you think you’re so clever, but like all democRATs, you’re nothing more than a legend in your own mind.
my point is rather simple…I’m not going to vote for anyone, of ANY party, unless they are VERY CONSERVATIVE…
thanks for ignoring my other points…I know you’re too stupid to deal with them, obviously.
oh ever figured out the mechanism for evolution??? hmmmmm???
OK, cool don’t vote at all. Boy! That’ll show me and those evil liberals! Next you are going to tell me you are going to punish me by totally ignoring my posts! No! Please don’t go!
Wow, this is getting really personal and nasty.
Chaps, why don’t you just go ahead and concoct some yuppified recipe for braised conservative children’s parts?
Oh, and a wine pairing.
What posts?
how pathetically stupid are you? whats the difference between a liberal republican and liberal dem???
there is none.
Oh I’m not going to ignore you…I enjoy making you look stupid…not that its very hard there sugar plum
Hoffman is probably the lesser evil of the two Republican candidates, but his stance on Health Care reform should be sounding some loud warning bells to anyone who believes in smaller government and doesn’t want a government takeover of healthcare. From his “Issues” page:
He says he wants universal health care, just not right this minute. He doesn’t say whether he wants a market-based or government run approach. He’s perfectly squishy about how he thinks costs should be brought under control – no specifics at all. He could support the Obama plan a year or two down the road and not break this promise. WTF?
And as long as conservatives keep voting for Republicans we won’t elect ANY actual conservatives to congress either.
The GOP needs to die a quick death. The longer conservatives prop them up the worse off the country will be.
The GOP served it’s purpose and eliminated slavery. Their new purpose seems to be to help the Democrats reduce us all to serfdom. That isn’t a goal worth my support.
We just want the souls. But you would never braise a tender cut like children’s souls. I serve it raw like a carpaccio. With a delicate Burgundy.
Braising is reserved for scraggly, tough cut’s like r4l’s intellect.
Sadly enough, I suspect the “good folks” from the left-wing Georgetown University Law School and Wine Emporium have just such a pairing…
you know whats funny about you libs is your policies are such failures every time they are tried. look at detroit…democRAT for decades…a hell-hole…
there are 2 types of democrats, the easily led, uneducated ones…and the ones that think they’ll be on top..telling others what to do.
I’m sure chappy, lawyer that he is, thinks he’ll be part of the elite…and in charge of the rest of us…but the revolution devours its supporters first.
I would have assumed you’d think any conservative product was scraggly and tough. But anything young tends to be more tender.
Personally, I like to make jerky out of Bill Ayers.
That type of thing is uncalled for, R2L, shame on you.
Actually, the fringe-3rd party votes on the conservative side are meaningless, Chappy – there just aren’t enough of them to make a difference. That’s why I don’t care much that a few people make noises about some 3rd party nonsense. Macht nichts.
And, in fact, it was the liberals who were more recently damaged by a split vote; Nader help sink Gore in 2000.
I think you could argue that Perot threw an election to Clinton, but he drew a lot of the independent, middle-road and Democrat vote, too.
oh yeah I feel terrible…just terrible….right…do you think you’re my mother?
Really?
Bill Owens (D) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 33%
Dede Scozzafava (R) . . . . . . . . . . 29%
Doug Hoffman (Conservative) . . . 23%
“Out of the same mouth proceeds blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not so to be.”
Actually, the fringe-3rd party votes on the conservative side are meaningless, Chappy – there just aren’t enough of them to make a difference.
I was citing Presidential elections there, Chap. Locally, it’s anything goes. I mentioned Michelle Bachman here yesterday – although she’s a sure winner – she still benefits from the two Democrat opponents (or “DFL” as the party is called in Minn – Democratic-Farmer-Labor) beating each other’s brains out.
Anyhoo, local elections do have that special flavor to ‘em. We had rassler Jesse Ventura elected governer awhile back, so I know whereof I speak, heh.
In this case I expect Hoffman will creep on the Republican candidate. I dunno if it will be enough to win, though. I’m assuming in NY congressional races if a candidate gets 33.3 5 in a three way race, s/he is the winner. Interesting race to watch.
Forgot the to hit the shift tab, so that came 5 instead of %, doh.
I’m just not as holy as you are.
You reject the teaching of the Bible, R4L?
(James 3:10)
I reject you and your flawed interpretation of it. who picked you as my judge? hmmmm?? where does the bible say purplepeep gets to decide what is offensive and ‘christian’ or not?? hmmmm??? I think I missed that part of it.
so maybe I should have just told him:
You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire. He was a murderer from the beginning
I’m sure you would have been offended though…but you’re just too pure and holy to even converse with me, so don’t bother.
aren’t you a mormon anyway?
I just offered the verse from the book of James, without any commentary. I assumed you took biblical commands to be your guide on how to conduct yourself.
The only defense you’ve come up with so far is to say that you’re not “holy enough” to be bound by the Bible. The problems with that argument should be evident to you. You can no longer cite the Bible when you reject it as the authority on how people should live. e.g. you cannot denounce homosexuality based on the Bible since you reject it yourself as a source for a code of conduct. e.g. if you did cite it to someone who is homosexual, they can say – along with you – “Well, I guess I’m just not holy enough” and you’d have to accept it.
Oh no, purplepeep. You have been rejected by r4l.
The support group meets at 7 pm on Tuesdays at the Elks Lodge. Bring donuts to share.
Sorry, but I gotta disagree here. If the child is over the age of 9, then perhaps Burgundy would be a good choice. Personally I would choose a Reisling. Dry and subtle. Perfect for coaxing the delicate undertones of innocence only present in the young.
Oh, I almsot forgot. You’re a godless heathen who’s going to burn in hell. By the way, could you please let me know if disbelief in hell makes the eternal torment less tortuous? Thanks in advance.
Perhaps a Alsatian Riesling. But I think the sweetness of a German one would be a bit too cloy when paired with the saccharine temperament of youth.
Do you think Verizon has coverage down there? I’ll try to shoot you a text message.
O.K. Time out everyone! This is ridiculous. right4life…you are way out of line and sounding snarky and testy. Are you PMSing perhaps? Seriously, you need to back off, as you are alienating half the people on this blog. What the heck is going on with you? First, you exhibit complete inflexibility…to the extent that you would lose our country to communists rather than vote for a (gasp!) RINO! Then, you insult everyone and don’t seem to care who it is. Re-read some of your posts. This is not how civil people are supposed to debate. I always had respect for your opinions…until now. I know my respect means nothing to you, but just to let you know…I no longer have any for you. Very sad. Maybe you are off your meds or something?? Your post #825999 sounds like RSS or LGM. Seriously, it does. Re-read it.
Yeah, Chappy, I dunno if I can keep from crying myself to sleep tonight.
Of course on the flip side, I could think instead about how I’m so much, much brighter than he. (Er…nevermind – so is 99.99% of everyone else in these parts)
Hey Scrapper – boy, the Vikes really dodged a bullet today, eh?
AND THE BILLS JUST WON!!!
Thanks, buddy! And should I go first and somehow achieve salvation, I’ll put in a good word for you.
More than likely though, I’ll go to Purgatory. Hey, I’ll save you a seat!
I thought that was Chappy’s territory.
If it was civil, no one would have any fun. Flame on!
Wow…I’ll say!!! I was sure we were done for…and I think Favre was too. He looked resigned at the end there. Like, how often are field goals missed? It wasn’t likely, but it happened! 6-0! Wheeee!!! I always loved Favre, even when he played for Green Bay and they were our rivals. He is a class act and I was so excited to find he was coming to our team.
Chap…you are a Bills fan? Now I know who to root against!
Well, a good, strong, reasonable debate is fun and it can even get a bit testy. But I do think r4l went over the line into psychosis. I just don’t remember her (I think) ever being so mean and nasty to almost everyone. Maybe r4l and PasadenaPhil should start their own blog and get that third party together.
Don’t worry. The Bills create enough of their own misery without outsiders trying to pile it on.
O.K. I’ll try to be nice. I’ve been there!
Yup, he couldn’t even watch the field goal attempt – TJack had to tell him the Raven’s kicker missed it!
Wasn’t pretty, but a win is a win!
Yup. Between today’s game and that last-second win against San Francisco, we have had some scares. But the stats don’t care how close they were. Just that they are W’s and not L’s.
who do you think you are? who are you to judge me, and what I say and do?
if you don’t like it, don’t read it.
get a life.
oh and go to hell.
who cares?
like I give a damn.
we’ve already lost it to communists trying it your way haven’t we now??? hmmmm?? your way hasn’t worked at all..get a clue.
no I really don’t care who it is. and you seemed to insult me first, as I remember, calling me ‘nuts’ remember? so you can dish it out but you can’t take it…cry me a river.
and this isn’t the first time you’ve said some rather unkind things to me…so don’t patronize me with some BS…please.
you’re right, because I have found nothing in your writings worthy of any respect.
unless we bow and scrape before the great and mighty wackoscrapper we’re evil and should get our own blog…why don’t you?
do you think you own this blog or something?? you’re definately not as intelligent, (as the hostess) and from your writing, much uglier on the outside, and the inside.
oh and let me guess..you’re both a couple of old ladies…sheesh.
Sadly, Scrapper, I have to disagree. Trashing everyone in Congress who won’t to the conservative line is THE ONLY THING THAT WILL WORK.
My point was that if we have a Republican that will do that, we should get behind him in full force.
Screw the rest of them.

What do you do when the conservative lines are blurry? Look at drug policy – I don’t think anybody here is lobbying to legalize heroin, but it would be nice to be able to buy Sudafed over the counter again. Taking it away from us has done nothing to decrease the production of meth.
But the issue is always demagogued beyond any reasonable discussion, because neither party wants to give up power, because they think it makes them look weak.
How can we ever get past the fear-mongering?
If that’s the sort of issue we are arguing over then the country is in great shape.
Or we’re arguing over stupid issues.
I just posted the following on the Sunday open thread and am repeating it here because this thread also got out of control…
Ronald Wilson Reagan
P.S. One more thing…A great example of total inflexibility is the Zero Tolerance rule in schools that have resulted in completely losing all common sense. I am directing this post mainly to r4l.
And, by the way, what does this even mean?
Are you saying that being a senior citizen somehow invalidates my opinions? Or that I don’t deserve the same respect as a younger person? Or I am ugly? Or maybe you think they should just pull the plug on me? Or somehow there is something wrong with living a long, full life and now I just don’t matter any more? I mean, really, why would anyone say a thing like that? Don’t bother to respond. I am leaving the thread now.
unless, of course, she’s a RINO.
Done. Good luck, Doug!
Long time lurker, very rare commentor. Help! I’m trying to make a donation to Hoffman online. I clicked on the donate button on his site, filled in all my info, and clicked submit. But then I got a message about the site’s security certificate not being a trusted site. Anyone else getting that message?
The answer is what I’ve been advocating for over a year now: Leave the fear-mongering to the fear-mongerers in the Republicrat parties and go our own way.
Drugs and such are the States’ jurisdiction anyway, and it’s best the fed got out of that business, except for what is allowed in the Commerce clause. I used to be pro-drug war, but as big government has blown the whole thing out of both legal and affordable proportions, I’ve seen the error of my ways in that area as well.
It’s just stupid that you have to go through all that rigamarole just to get a little allergy medicine.

Beck just gave a rousing indorsement to Hoffman!!! Oh not by name of course, but he showed pictures of all three and said that he prefers the picture of Hoffman, especially over the the picture of Scozzafava!!!
I LOVE IT!!!
