Video: Laura Ingraham calls out Charlie Gibson’s ACORN ignorance

On ABC News this morning at George Stephanopoulos’s This Week roundtable, fellow Fox News contributor and conservative radio talk show host Laura Ingraham took Charlie Gibson to task for his ignorance of the ACORN scandal (which, you’ll remember, a condescending Gibson said he thinks the MSM should “leave to the cables.”)
Brava. Keep calling them out:
Noel Sheppard at Newsbusters has the transcript.
In other ACORN news the rest of the MSM will “leave to the cables”…
*Patterico: The LA Times fails to disclose a pro-ACORN op-ed writer’s ACORN ties.
*Ed Morrissey: HUD’s housing counseling programs — administered by the likes of ACORN — get a massive budget increase.
(For a thorough refresher course, see my expose’ last April: The left-wing mortgage counseling racket)
*And in another must-read piece, Anita MonCrief sheds more light on the non-profit, tax-exempt, and supposedly non-partisan Project Vote — a twisted branch of the ACORN tree — and its partisan operatives. Read the whole thing:
When I came to Washington, D.C. to start working for ACORN, it quickly became evident to me that Project Vote did not have a lot of employees and was a part of ACORN. Often we employees wore many hats and worked weekends and late nights with the sense that we were doing it for the “movement.”
One of my first assignments at Project Vote was to research the voter registration fraud allegations from 2004. It was not hard to discern a pattern in how the accusations were processed: ACORN blamed an employee, the employee was fired, vilified, tried and sentenced. Case closed. Every time Project Vote remain unscathed while ACORN cried racism and attacked the “evil right-wingers.” What I then speculated is that Project Vote did not have the field capacity to run the voter registration drives without ACORN. Project Vote existed because of ACORN and did not seem like it could continue without it. Besides shared offices across the country; there were people like myself who held duel positions in both organizations. Senator Chuck Grassley requested information related to the tax status of ACORN entities and it was determined that:
“Per its 2006 Form 990, Project Vote received $8,688,580 in direct public support, and $250,759 in contractual fees. It then paid $4,649,037 to ACORN for contractual and campaign services and $779,016 to Citizens Consulting, Inc. Thus, $5,428,023, or over 60% of its revenues, was paid to two taxable, affiliated entities (emphasis mine).
“…In general, the flow of money among the ACORN family of organizations is a big shell came. Dollars raised for charitable activity appear to be used for impermissible lobbying and political activity. This is similar to the use of charities by Jack Abramoff. Similar to those organizations, charities are being used to raise monies which are then funneled to other charities or other organizations for purposes other than what a donor may have intended.”
On the ACORN side, I was part of political operations. POLOPS, as we called it during my tenure, had Zach Polett as its point person. Zach ran Project Vote, ACORN Political Operations, and sometimes, Citizens Services Inc. (CSI). Voter registration drives, lawsuits, youth voting, etc were all handled by this main ACORN nebulous, and I watched it run like a slightly inept machine. Over the years Project Vote has loudly protested that it is not a part of ACORN. Barack Obama’s Fight the Smears website also makes this absurd claim.
After the New York Times broke the ACORN embezzlement scandal in July of 2008 and subsequently released portions of the Elizabeth Kingsley report, recommendations were made about improving the overall operation of the affiliates. In particular the roles of the board members was discussed at length. According to information provided by former board members in July of 2008, not only was the board unaware of the embezzlement, but some of the affiliate board members were not even aware that they were on the board! Project Vote replaced a few of its board members, but somehow managed to still stock it with trusted ACORN insiders…
Beware those paying lip service to “reforming” ACORN.
I repeat: ACORN is a criminal enterprise. It took decades to build up its massive coffers and intricate web of affiliates across the country. It will take months and years to untangle the entire operation. And it will take time, money, and and relentless sunshine to dismantle the government-subsidized, partisan racket. It can’t be “reformed.” It is constitutionally corrupt.

Good points from commenter Ignatius Reilly on the Stephanopoulous roundtable video:
At 5:15 Stephanopoulos said that the WH is trying to draw a line between the opinion side of Fox and the news side.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Axelrod and Emanuel were all over the Sunday shows just a week ago doing exactly the opposite; they were saying that Fox is not merely objectionable on the opinion side but that their news reporting is illegitimate, as well.
I also find it contemptible at these round tables that all of the liberals — which is most of the talking heads — always nod gravely and say that what the White House is doing is not very wise strategy. This gives them a chance to sound a little critical when, in fact, they are only criticizing political tactics as unlikely to be productive. They totally duck the need to forthrightly denounce the WH for being a bully and trying to silence legitimate opposition, which seems to me a fairly serious sin against democracy.

The question is, what will change? Calling out the media for it’s lack of journalism just doesn’t seem to be making any difference. They keep going about their arrogant ways. Ratings/sales be damned. I find it frustrating, really, because there are still the uninformed people who will still tune in. Willfully or otherwise.
ACORN/SEIU/CSI is a criminal enterprise shielded from the consequences of its illegal operation at the highest level. To paraphrase Shakespeare, a dung heap by any other name…
FIFY
Well done Laura!
Keep that “relentless sunshine” shining on those ACORN rats (in and out of the White House). I have no doubt that we will win this battle against democrat corruption. No doubt at all.
No need to be frustrated. Fox is picking up ratings, and word is getting out in other ways. Rather than be frustrated at an establishment that refuses to change its ways, we should be trying to keep the momentum going that’s succeeding in sapping the power of that establishment.
*Bravo to Laura for calling Charlie out; I only saw the clip here as I can’t possibly watch This Week with George S. knowing full well that he is nothing more than a bum boy for P-BO and his administration; Good luck to ABC and their ratings if they plug him in to GMA or the evening news.
*I hope and pray that more and more people will become engaged and informed about the destruction going on around them by the powers that be, aided and abetted by the Minor League Media; It’s time to starve the beast into submission, and let common sense prevail; It doesn’t exist in D.C., so we will have to bring it to them.

Stephanopoulis – What a total butt-boy. He’s lying about them trying to draw a line between the news and opinion sides, and he knows it. He must know that we know it. But he says it anyway.
George Stephanouplous is Odumbo’s BUTT-BOY. George the Butt-boy. How wonderful for him and Odumbo.
What a great gathering of ?
Cynthia Tucker? Seriously…radical leftist, and a racist, poo poo’s Obama Administration’s handling of FNC? Yeah, she’s a fair (not) voice. How’s the Atlanta Journal’s subscriptions going?
John Podesta? Friggin’ commie left-tard weasel, and George Soros minion…he is the quintessential crooked looking, bad-guy lawyer portrayed in movies. Definitely not fair minded, much less, pro-America.
Al Hunt? Yeah…Clinton apologist and lefty ideologue…he should get out more. He sounds like all the other liberal journalists who are trapped in a cloistered, albeit small, bubble. He is at least articulate, if not plain boring.
George Steffi….whatever. His past belies any objective view he might pretend to have, and is a blind liberal posing as an arbiter.
At least we have Laura and George Will. These two bright stars cannot get dimmed no matter the anti-conservative venom.
No. They’ll now start attacking and smearing Laura Ingraham
At this rate, the MSM may destroy themselves before they destroy the country.
One can only hope:)
You’re over the target and hitting the target, Laura, standby for flack.
Jake
After listening to the video, I was going to comment on the participants, but I see right_on already beat me to it.
right_on’s comments are, well, right on!
As are those who have rightfully called out Steffi as ‘Bama’s Butt-boy.
What a complete waste of time these Sunday shows are. I do, however, ♥
Laura Ingraham.
In a kind of defense of Charlie Gibson, my own impression of the shill drawn from the few times I have watched him is that he is ignorant of everything.
The only honesty on the show!
Why do I get the impression that there is a fourth leg of the ACORN / SEUI / CSI corruption scheme which involves the media. Judging by how the ‘real media’ (according to the WH) refused to even mention the Acorn and other scandals – makes one wonder….
Charles Gibson (you know – the all-wise and condescending expert on the ‘Bush Doctrine’) says he didn’t know about it? Isn’t that what he’s paid for?
And Stephanopoulis – he was, is and allways will be nothing more than a DNC operative.
Charles Gibson had no problem being condescending and dismissive toward “ignorant” Sarah Palin, but then turned around and deceptively professed to be ignorant about ACORN and their criminal activities. What a teleprompter reading libtard hack you are, Chuck!
Acorn has ties with mortgage companies as well, Citi in particular bragged about it’s relationship with Acorn AND la Raza at the last customer service meeting I attended as an employee. If you have Citi cards/mortgage, try to get rid of it, they are no good and in up to their eyeballs with this administration, even if Vickram Pandit is getting a paycut.
Now we know why he’s retiring!
Agreed, and Michelle Malkin, I apologize for saying “bravo” (instead of “brava”) to you in the past… I’m not an opera fan, and never knew there was anything other than “bravo” until I saw your use of “brava” and googled it…
Anyone who thinks that ACORN officials don’t lie through their teeth needs to watch the video here.
And Bertha Lewis, ACORN’s executive director and co-chair of the Working Families Party, “called upon” the Communist Party USA
“as family“!
Doesn’t it seem like the overwhelming majority of Obama’s associates are Communists? Bill Ayers, Van Jones, General Anita “Mao Tse” Dunn
Good for Laura I guess. I do not believe I have ever actually watched Good Old Uncle Charlie-the pompous puss-on a regular news show. I gave up the alphabet news during the Viet Nam war with Dear Uncle Walter.
But to be sophisticated and such
Brava
Bravo
and of course
Bravi
(is Peter and the Wolf Italian?)
I’m still completely baffled by the ultimate logic of any “get out the vote” campaign. I understand it from a “position in a situation” point of view but not from an overall view. If someone is an active, informed, citizen with a long term interest in the situation, they will vote. If they don’t care, or have no long term interest, why should we strive to have that individual vote?
This opinion goes to “get out the vote” organizations on both sides of the political aisle (which appears to really have become two sides to the same coin). Further government spending my money to dilute my vote is completely absurd.
OT
I am rooting for Hoffman but lawdyy who told him his op-ed in the NY Post was good?
he was born a po white guy to single parent crap? cmonnn Dougie good $ is being sent hire someone with more than a 101 concept of PR!!!!

Then the WH should be very busy with:
ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, NY TIMES, LA TIMES……….
Your
statementopinion does not add up Mr. Snuffleupagus.Absolute foolishness to think for a nano-second that the election of this administration and congress would ever move our nation forward in a positive way.
Absolute foolishness on display. The unrest and massive contempt is the fallout from the scam being played out on America. 2010 will be ground zero in so many ways.
Because if they don’t care, are ill-imformed (see MSM), too stupid, or just too long on the puplic teat, they are likely to vote emotionally – which are the heartstrings the Democrats love to tug.
Personally I think a person should be required to get off their fat ass and go down (unless physically unable) and register in person at an office with photo id and proof of citizenship every 4 years.
JUst remember to call your Congressmen and Senators this week and tell them to continue to defund ACRON. Congress has till Saturday at midnight to continue the defunding or else the spicket turns back on. The defunding bill was only good for the month of October and has to be “renewed” for the lack of funding to stop. Congress figured that this would all blow over in a month and they could go back to business as usual.
They will just make CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN et al “non-profits” as they are talking about doing with failing newspapers.
We are doomed, folks.
Anybody here care to speculate what the voter turnout might be for 2010?
I’ve always like Laura, she’s got more manliness in her little pinky than George and Charlie could ever hope to have, without being unfeminine.
Calling out Gibson will do little harm to the MSM. They and ACORN are protected by the corruptocrats in this corrupt government. Time to throw them out is NOW!
George S-12: eh uh er eh uh eh uh let’s leave that for another day…
Typical round table for the liberal networks and a good illustration as to why FOX NEWS serves such a need in the news.
Stephenopolous: Previous Democrat flack of the Clinton administration who spent his years at the White House knowingly lying to the American people and the press. Notice in the clip how he cannot allow Ingrahm to get in any criticism without interjecting some defense of his interlopers.
Cynthia: A devout Marxist just to the right of Fidel Castro who would slit her wrists before commending any conservative or admitting any wrong doing by a liberal, or minority.
Posdesta: Head of the Center of American Progress who reportedly hired Van Jones after he got booted from the White House due to Beck exposing him as a Marxist radical revolutionary. Podesta also spent the Clinton years lying to the press and the American people
Al Hunt: A simple (and simpleton) leftist who tried to protect Clinton and every other liberal Democrat. A Democrat see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil of Democrats.
George Will: a right down the middle conservative who will criticize Republcans as well as Democrats. A “Fair and Balanced” guy. You will never find someone like Will as a counterpart in the Democrat side.
Laura Ingrahm: a true conservative who is called a liar by the likes of the liberals and leftists on the panel. But they never will be able to give any examples. Ingrahm criticized the Bush admininstration time and again on her radio program for eight years.
Yes, without FOX NEWS this is what we could watch propped up as “news analysis”.
Boy, Stephy couldn’t wait to interrupt Laura every time she spoke. In your face Podesta! Keep-up the good fight folks!
Yes conservativesRus I too have a limited use for “Get Out the Vote”. I have driven Republicans to the polls-called Republicans to remember the primary. As far as the rest? Why bother, what does just one vote matter-watch it on TV
I agree. The gov’t should not be funding any type of MotorVoter or get-out-the-vote trickery. If the people eligible to vote can’t get off their duffs and actually pay the registrar of voters a visit to fill out the necessary forms, then they don’t deserve to vote.
I understand that some people can’t get to the county offices. I do believe that is what family and friends are for. If you belong to a church, you ask the pastor or priest for assistance and he’d probably even mention your request during services! And someone would come forward. There are many alternatives other than the fraudulent and criminal ACORN/ProjectVote way.
We do NOT need get-out-the-vote drives. What we need are responsible adults that understand their civic duty.
Its ignorance in the sense that he is ignoring a serious news story because it does not fit into his worldview. Ingraham rightly critiques Gibson’s condescending blunder.
Oh, and dont you just love Steppo’s response to Ingraham? He says something like “Putting that aside for the moment…” No George, Ingraham’s point was THE MAIN POINT. Putting aside the main point to focus on the smaller points, means he didn’t want to acknowledge the truth.
That clip is the first bit of the State run media that I have tolerated in a few years only because it was on this blog. Why do people hold out hope that the deranged idiots in the Obama worshiping media are going to stun us all and listen to logic. Its like the Denver Rocky Mountain News calling my house for a subscription. You tell them you wont buy the paper because they describe the Beslan Terrorists as freedom fighters for killing children. They keep calling and writing the same things. They are the scorpions on the turtles back. They didn’t change even though it meant the loss of their jobs. Please no more attention should be given to these disgraceful clowns.
Get out the vote is a pure Democrat ploy to get more ignorant voters to vote for free Obama money. Out government should not use taxpayer money for this activity, but the dems are in charge ( partially do to Republican scandals) and now it is their turn to pillage. So sad that when the Republicans were in charge they let this crap go… on so that they wouldn’t be accused of racism.
The success of FOX has forced the maintream to add a conservative voice, besides George Will, to their format. This is a positive sign. Note that Laura pointed out to them that they may be taking a chance with Whitehouse disaproval.
And I too noticed that George S. always cut Laura off.
Wonder how the general audience to the “George Show” felt about seeing Ingraham for the first time. “Who is this woman?”
Kudos to all the comments above, especially those of Ignatius Reilly and conservativesRus!
Liberals in the media are not going to change. The talking heads ’solemnly acknowledging’ how Obama and his gang are just trying to separate opinion from news is laughable. I saw the clip on Breitbart.tv. Nothing new there, except Laura Ingraham was invited in the gathering! And she did make the point, which George Steph tried to dissimulate.
I am with conservative Rus , wondering why there is a need to spend so much for ‘get out the vote’. The fewer ignorant voters go to the polls, the better the results of elections will be.

BUEN TRABAJO LAURA! Keep socking it to them.
***
The strong conservative ladies–Laura Ingraham, Michelle Malkin, Sarah Palin, Liz Cheney–have a lot more strength than most of our so-called “conservative” (aka RINO) politicians. They are leading the charge against the Corruptocrats of both parties.
***
Everyone laughed when Joan of Arc showed up with her army. They were all licking their wounds and bleeding a lot when she left!
***
As far as giving up the fight–this is a courageous bunch of women. Read their books to see how strong and principled these ladies really are.

With any luck at all, you’ll be right.
Don’t forget the fine work the college students at Paletra.net.
To wit: http://www.palestra.net/videos/play/16803
College students doing the job the liberal media STILL refuses to do.
Because the Democrat base is formed from ignorant voters. It should be called “get out the ignorant Democrat vote”.
BTW – Charlie, I know you have health insurance as part of your multi-million dollar contract, why not get bifocals or something so you don’t have to put your glasses 6 inches down your nose? Oh, you like looking down your nose…
So KEITH UEBERDORK at MSNBC is okay but Laurie Dhue at Fox is objectionable?
Just trying to wrap my mind around the way Obama thinks…
brava ladies, both michelle and laura. why is it the lady conservatives are soooo much more to the point with these scoundrels, while mealy mouthed men wouldn’t say crap if they had a mouth full of it. laura, michelle, ann, sarah, you go girls!
