Tinker Bell coopted by U.N. eco-zealots

By Michelle Malkin  •  October 27, 2009 10:55 AM

Soon to be the new mascot of the Democrats’ cap-and-tax push, Disney’s Tinker Bell was tapped by the United Nations this week to serve as an “Honorary Ambassador of Green.”

This is not an Onion parody:

The United Nations Monday named Disney character Tinker Bell an “Honorary Ambassador of Green” to help raise children’s environmental awareness.

The announcement came just before a screening at U.N. headquarters in New York of the world premiere of the Walt Disney animated film, “Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure,” the organization said in a release.

“We’re delighted Tinker Bell has agreed to be our Honorary Ambassador of Green,” said Kiyo Akasaka, undersecretary-general for communications and public information. “This beloved animated character can help us inspire kids and their parents to nurture nature and do what they can to take care of the environment.”

Monday’s event was part of the run-up to the United Nations climate change conference in Copenhagen, Demark, in December, where countries will try to secure a new global agreement to curb greenhouse gas emissions.

Tinker Bell edged out Wendy and Captain Hook for the position. Can’t beat a microscopic carbon footprint.

Yes, that’s exactly what it’s all about. Many parents let their kids watch Disney videos over and over and over, not realizing that they are being brainwashed with leftist ideas.

The animated Tarzan brainwashes them to think that anyone with a gun is evil.

The animated Pocahontas doesn’t tell the truth about Pocahontas… it doesn’t tell you that she converted to Christianity. (Her baptism is featured in one of the paintings in the rotunda of the U.S. Capitol building). Instead, it paints a picture of the white settlers being “intolerant” (”Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?”)

The animated Hunchback of Notre Dame depicts the Christians as evil.

I could go on and on.

And consider this… when was the last time you saw a Disney movie that featured a traditional family, with both a father and a mother?

Even in Finding Nemo, the traditional family is shattered by the violent death of the mother, and the father is mockingly disfunctional.

    This ain’t Walt’s “Disney” anymore.

I was extremely disturbed to hear a radio ad this morning from National Grid telling me to use 3% less energy to be ‘green’ (whatever that means? fewer solar panels means more space for plants maybe?). I cannot think of one business model anywhere that includes encouraging customers to use less of a given company’s product or service?

The rate structure is, or at least used to be, structured to encourage customers to use MORE energy by making it incrementally cheaper the more you use.

Their home page links to this page titled Power of Action (with a bad certificate at this moment BTW – caveat emptor)

Just look at this RUBBISH the company is pumping out! –

….That’s why we’re asking all our customers to join us in reducing their energy consumption 3% a year for the next 10 years. With your help we can create a sustained social movement. And the results could be amazing.

There are so many reasons to do it. For starters, the less energy you use, the less you pay. The need for new power plants would go down. We’d all be less reliant on foreign energy sources. There’d be far fewer carbon emissions into our atmosphere, less acid rain, slower climate change. Everybody would benefit – you, your kids and grandkids, even the polar bears.

Yeah, ‘amazing’… Silly me, here I was believing that National Grid stockholders generally invested their money to make a profit and I was just sooo sooo wrong. Doh! It’s not an energy company it’s a social movement to save polar bears!

Ah ha! My crystal ball just woke up and told me what National Grid might be up to – they ‘earn’ carbon credits if they sell less power. Though carbon credits have fallen from about $7 a ton to about 10 cents a ton, they can pump the price later if they control more of the CC market via such actions.

So think about this Mr. Ed Markey, let’s say the price of CC starts going back up – way up – spurred by this social program Power of Action by National Grid that YOU encourage?

Let’s also hope that they are YOUR power company supplying YOUR gas and YOUR electricity.

Now tell us Ed how you assure yourself that if National Grid is given the impetus to make a windfall profit in the event of a supply line ‘accident’ ;) – that they WILL NOT JUST MAKE ONE HAPPEN leaving YOU and your family freezing in the dark in February?

Come on Ed Markey – tell us HOW giving energy utility monopolies an incentive to make money by selling less energy will not result in them simply finding a ‘vay’ to SHUT IT OFF ALTOGETHER for a windfall?

Tell us Ed, you invented this world where less equals more and not doing something has some sort of ‘value’.

Prior to co-opting PIXAR, Disney was pretty much running out of ideas for their film-fare. Films like The Lion King and Atlantis: The Lost Empire were plagiarized from Japanese productions (Jungle Emperor Leo and Nadia of the Mysterious Seas), and when you sink to the depths of stealing other people’s creative property, the no-doubt had to do SOMETHING to bring in fresh blood.

That said, the pap flowing from the rotting gut of Disney should have long become irrelevant. Brad Bird and John Lasseter are probably the only people keeping the ship afloat.

Start with Algore. I read about how much energy he consumes at his house in TN and calculated he uses as much in 1 month as I do in 18. Add in his other uses and you’re up to at least 30:1. What would be gained by me cutting my usage by 3% a year for 10 years would allow Manbearpig to use the running lights on his hog of a houseboat for about 15 minutes.
