Tinker Bell coopted by U.N. eco-zealots

Soon to be the new mascot of the Democrats’ cap-and-tax push, Disney’s Tinker Bell was tapped by the United Nations this week to serve as an “Honorary Ambassador of Green.”
This is not an Onion parody:
The United Nations Monday named Disney character Tinker Bell an “Honorary Ambassador of Green” to help raise children’s environmental awareness.
The announcement came just before a screening at U.N. headquarters in New York of the world premiere of the Walt Disney animated film, “Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure,” the organization said in a release.
“We’re delighted Tinker Bell has agreed to be our Honorary Ambassador of Green,” said Kiyo Akasaka, undersecretary-general for communications and public information. “This beloved animated character can help us inspire kids and their parents to nurture nature and do what they can to take care of the environment.”
Monday’s event was part of the run-up to the United Nations climate change conference in Copenhagen, Demark, in December, where countries will try to secure a new global agreement to curb greenhouse gas emissions.
Tinker Bell edged out Wendy and Captain Hook for the position. Can’t beat a microscopic carbon footprint.

Oh Noooooo! Not Tink! I use to love the Tink!
used to (slap!)
Why couldn’t they use Captain Hook? He would be apropo.
They do know she is a fiction character right?
I think I have discovered where all that Afganhi opium is going….
“…delighted Tinkerbell’s agreed…”.
No; I don’t think they know she’s fictional, sonofdy.
This is too much. TOO much.
It’s all about (brainwashing) the children!
Errah; somewhere Michael Eisner is roiling over in his grave!
You lie!
Well, she was an emotional, jealous creature who attempted to get others to murder her rival, while feigning innocence and good will; a perfect fit for the UN mascot.
Keep working on the kids. Soon, they will grow up and be “zombies” to the radicals. The important goal is tearing down the U.S., and free enterprise in order to promote the EU and Asian markets plus socialist politics, with the socialists in charge and exempt, of course.
Is Otinkerbama still slated to go to the conference?
Errah, Oh sorry, he has an empty seat right behind me!
That’s just female genetics, and you say that like it’s a bad thing.
They choose Tinkerbell because she can’t say what a load of _rap this is. You’ll just hear tinkling sounds.
I think it was something about a prior committment to fighting piracy. Either that, or he was still closing out the books on the Oil for Food Program.
The beloved ‘Tink” has jumped the shark.
Henceforth, she will be referred to as Stinkerbell
Actually, I think it is appropriate that the UN wants to use a fictional charachter to promote their agenda based on ficitional science.
You mean the fairies are for cap-and-trade???
Tinkerbell? Climate change? Is it pervy to think she’s HOT?
For years Walt Disney has been accused of anti sematisim. And now the Isreal hating UN has picked Tinkerbell for a symbol. Makes one think.
Personally, I think Hello Kitty or Dora The Explorer would have made a better spokesperson. Have you seen the crap they market towards kids? Tinkerbell is like, so OLD!
Since the age of about 5, I have loved Tink.
What have they done to you, Baby?!?!?
Bastards…!!!!!
But skip the fairy dust because it leaves a carbon footprint. Bambi would have been much better, they could “redesign” Bambi’s mother dying from CO2 poinsoning then Thumper could sound the global warming alarm.
How apropos – a fictional character to represent a fictional problem!
Well, the government and the UN has been “tinkling” on us and telling us it’s acid rain for a while now anyway…
Meanwhile, NASA is unable to launch their Ares I-X rocket during the Obama administration. Looks great, but won’t get off the ground.
Ares I-X test launch scrubbed…due to weather.
Where’s Stinker Bell when you need her?
That’s not an honorable way for Tink to make a living.
Tinker bell is a whore and Disney’s her pimp. I guess that makes the UN the John.
I can’t wait for the Breitbart video.
Uh news flash, they’ve been using Tink in commercials about recycling and energy saving for over a year now on TV, this really isn’t anything new.
If I watch TV anymore, I use a Tivo like device and start a program 20 minutes into it. Haven’t seen a commercial in a long time.
I thought not even for sweet charity (and under threat of infringement suits against daycares across the country) would Disney allow one of its trademark characters to be used w/o license? Oh well, shows how far left the House of Mouse has turned since Walt and Roy have been gone.
Children aren’t our future, they have taken over the world.
No, they don’t.
Reminds me of when the NEA put out a press release, during the Bush Administration, saying they supported president Bartlett’s stance on education. Who the F is president Bartlett? Why, the fictional character from The West Wing, of course!
To libtards, anything that supports their position, whether it be the pseudo-science of “Climate Change” or socialst education schemes, is treated as real.
Leave it to the land of the left coast to hijack the innocent.
Hands off our kids~
I remember my daughter tearing up after school one day and telling me the reason she was crying was because the teacher had told them about how awful it was to take beautiful land and build houses (yea, California and Bambi did get mentioned). I happened to agree with the teacher, just not for the same reasons.
Shame on Disney.
I think it’s completely appropriate that a fairy tale be chosen to represent same.
I am guessing that Disney didn’t donate her likeness.
Disney is also offering free admissions to their parks if you serve in an approved capacity.
The airwaves have more PSAs on now than I’ve ever noticed before.
Perhaps I am becoming a conspiracy nut, but I suspect these co-opted advertising agreements are part of some program designed to covertly buy media support of the administration’s agenda.
Complete with pixie dust and thinking happy thoughts to enable you to fly. Ergo, no carbon footprints. Perfect!
What exactly are they worried about kids doing to the environment? Picking dandelions?
What the heck do you think the whole green movement is all about? Companies spend a gazilion bucks to market junk that they think people want, just because it’s said to be ‘green’. Everyone is getting in on the game…it’s coming from every direction.
Disney is apparently where the administration got their ideas. You remember ‘never-food’ right? Well, there will be ‘never-energy’, ‘never-healthcare’, and ‘never-peace’. If you believe hard enough, it’ll be there!
Using a scantily clad, blonde haired, blue eyed bombshell pixie is racist!
I’m sure the Muslims will be enraged and will promptly blow someone up.
et tu, Tink?
…and Sexist.
(sob!)
So,Joe Camel, Trojan Man, and Texas’ Lotto Man cannot be used in commercials because of their “influence” on children, but children can be indoctrinated thru cartoon?

Yes, that’s exactly what it’s all about. Many parents let their kids watch Disney videos over and over and over, not realizing that they are being brainwashed with leftist ideas.
The animated Tarzan brainwashes them to think that anyone with a gun is evil.
The animated Pocahontas doesn’t tell the truth about Pocahontas… it doesn’t tell you that she converted to Christianity. (Her baptism is featured in one of the paintings in the rotunda of the U.S. Capitol building). Instead, it paints a picture of the white settlers being “intolerant” (”Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?”)
The animated Hunchback of Notre Dame depicts the Christians as evil.
I could go on and on.
And consider this… when was the last time you saw a Disney movie that featured a traditional family, with both a father and a mother?
Even in Finding Nemo, the traditional family is shattered by the violent death of the mother, and the father is mockingly disfunctional.
This ain’t Walt’s “Disney” anymore.

Let’s give the NOBEL PEACE PRIZE to Tinkerbell for her great work in removing the pirate menace from the world next year.

Tinkerbell? You mean Raum Emmanuel?
Was Barney Frank unavailable?
madmonk; look to the purpose, camel cigarettes BAD; beer frogs BAD; polar bear and tinkerbell for global warming GOOD. indoctrinate those kiddies, just don’t think that our video/movie industry influences people about violence, because we all know that’s untrue!
Captain Hook sounds like a better mascot – they want to plunder the economies of western nations for their own political and economic power.
“The Incredibles”. That was actually a good movie for family values.
Agreed…the last one perhaps.
But thanks RedPill, I’m with you on your post.
Was that a Disney or Pixar film?
At the top of my DVD copy:
Disney Presents a PIXAR Film
How appropriate for the UN, to have an ambassador from a land where you never have to grow up and stay a child forever.
I think the Green Fairy from Moulin Rouge would be more appropriate. Somehow I imagine UN meetings being like that scene.
At the time of the Incredibles, Pixar was an independent studio with an exclusive distribution deal through Disney. So I don’t think you can credit Disney with any goodness there. They’re now one company now, and I believe Steve Jobs is still the largest shareholder (but it’s been awhile since I looked).
Anyway, Disney’s been pretty evil for many years now. It’s sad that many parents are too oblivious and / or lazy to help direct their children to alternative forms of entertainment.
Sadly, yes. Doara is the worst.
Why not?
A fictional Character for a Fictional Crisis.
That is how cleaning up the environment is supposed to work, however: a sprinkling of pixie dust, a wave of the magic wand, and thinking happy thoughts about Mother Earth.
I don’t mind environmentalism when it comes to things like picking up your own litter, reducing the amount of garbage we throw away, appropriate management of toxic byproducts and reduction of careless wastefulness, and attempts to develop alternative technologies to the point where they make good economic sense.
I do object to heavy-handed government mandates that ignore thermodynamics, chemistry, biology, and economics in favor of blind zeal to make industry idealogically pure.
Yeah, as someone stated before…these commercials have already been out for some time. They are on Fox all the time in the morning telling us to take out our cell phone chargers from the wall when not in use. ugh. (like that’ll save the world).
Probably the safer choice for the UN since those tinkerbells would have preferred to use the likenesses of Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe, Betty Boop or Truman Capote. Y’know, all the characters they dress up like to go out on a Saturday night.
I was extremely disturbed to hear a radio ad this morning from National Grid telling me to use 3% less energy to be ‘green’ (whatever that means? fewer solar panels means more space for plants maybe?). I cannot think of one business model anywhere that includes encouraging customers to use less of a given company’s product or service?
The rate structure is, or at least used to be, structured to encourage customers to use MORE energy by making it incrementally cheaper the more you use.
Their home page links to this page titled Power of Action (with a bad certificate at this moment BTW – caveat emptor)
Just look at this RUBBISH the company is pumping out! –
Yeah, ‘amazing’… Silly me, here I was believing that National Grid stockholders generally invested their money to make a profit and I was just sooo sooo wrong. Doh! It’s not an energy company it’s a social movement to save polar bears!
Check YOUR 401K….
Ah ha! My crystal ball just woke up and told me what National Grid might be up to – they ‘earn’ carbon credits if they sell less power. Though carbon credits have fallen from about $7 a ton to about 10 cents a ton, they can pump the price later if they control more of the CC market via such actions.
So think about this Mr. Ed Markey, let’s say the price of CC starts going back up – way up – spurred by this social program Power of Action by National Grid that YOU encourage?
Let’s also hope that they are YOUR power company supplying YOUR gas and YOUR electricity.
Now tell us Ed how you assure yourself that if National Grid is given the impetus to make a windfall profit in the event of a supply line ‘accident’
– that they WILL NOT JUST MAKE ONE HAPPEN leaving YOU and your family freezing in the dark in February?
Come on Ed Markey – tell us HOW giving energy utility monopolies an incentive to make money by selling less energy will not result in them simply finding a ‘vay’ to SHUT IT OFF ALTOGETHER for a windfall?
Tell us Ed, you invented this world where less equals more and not doing something has some sort of ‘value’.
Prior to co-opting PIXAR, Disney was pretty much running out of ideas for their film-fare. Films like The Lion King and Atlantis: The Lost Empire were plagiarized from Japanese productions (Jungle Emperor Leo and Nadia of the Mysterious Seas), and when you sink to the depths of stealing other people’s creative property, the no-doubt had to do SOMETHING to bring in fresh blood.
That said, the pap flowing from the rotting gut of Disney should have long become irrelevant. Brad Bird and John Lasseter are probably the only people keeping the ship afloat.
Well folks, not only can I confirm from the horses’ mouth today (my 10 year-old niece) that Tinkerbelle is indeed the green talk at school, but it looks like Rush is going to have to change one of his fave sayings! My niece reports in her school cafeteria the teachers had kids laughing and chanting (maybe not to tune) “Kids that follow Rush Bimbo have heads full of mush, but green caring kids have theirs filled with brains!”
Don’t say scholastic indoctrination doesn’t exist!

No one ever takes into account that Tinkerbell was an attempted murderer, a jealous psychopath, and a stalker, not a good rolemodel for any child.
Start with Algore. I read about how much energy he consumes at his house in TN and calculated he uses as much in 1 month as I do in 18. Add in his other uses and you’re up to at least 30:1. What would be gained by me cutting my usage by 3% a year for 10 years would allow Manbearpig to use the running lights on his hog of a houseboat for about 15 minutes.
Disney sucks. “The Little Mermaid” was the worst of all. During the wedding scene on the barge, the priest gets an erection.
We don’t do anything “Disney” anymore.
