There are so many reasons to do it. For starters, the less energy you use, the less you pay.

Start with Algore. I read about how much energy he consumes at his house in TN and calculated he uses as much in 1 month as I do in 18. Add in his other uses and you’re up to at least 30:1. What would be gained by me cutting my usage by 3% a year for 10 years would allow Manbearpig to use the running lights on his hog of a houseboat for about 15 minutes.

Anyway, Disney’s been pretty evil for many years now. It’s sad that many parents are too oblivious and / or lazy to help direct their children to alternative forms of entertainment.

Prior to co-opting PIXAR, Disney was pretty much running out of ideas for their film-fare. Films like The Lion King and Atlantis: The Lost Empire were plagiarized from Japanese productions (Jungle Emperor Leo and Nadia of the Mysterious Seas), and when you sink to the depths of stealing other people’s creative property, the no-doubt had to do SOMETHING to bring in fresh blood.

That said, the pap flowing from the rotting gut of Disney should have long become irrelevant. Brad Bird and John Lasseter are probably the only people keeping the ship afloat.

So think about this Mr. Ed Markey, let’s say the price of CC starts going back up – way up – spurred by this social program Power of Action by National Grid that YOU encourage?

Let’s also hope that they are YOUR power company supplying YOUR gas and YOUR electricity.

Now tell us Ed how you assure yourself that if National Grid is given the impetus to make a windfall profit in the event of a supply line ‘accident’ – that they WILL NOT JUST MAKE ONE HAPPEN leaving YOU and your family freezing in the dark in February?

Come on Ed Markey – tell us HOW giving energy utility monopolies an incentive to make money by selling less energy will not result in them simply finding a ‘vay’ to SHUT IT OFF ALTOGETHER for a windfall?

Tell us Ed, you invented this world where less equals more and not doing something has some sort of ‘value’.

The rate structure is, or at least used to be, structured to encourage customers to use MORE energy by making it incrementally cheaper the more you use.

There are so many reasons to do it. For starters, the less energy you use, the less you pay. The need for new power plants would go down. We’d all be less reliant on foreign energy sources. There’d be far fewer carbon emissions into our atmosphere, less acid rain, slower climate change. Everybody would benefit – you, your kids and grandkids, even the polar bears.

Yeah, ‘amazing’… Silly me, here I was believing that National Grid stockholders generally invested their money to make a profit and I was just sooo sooo wrong. Doh! It’s not an energy company it’s a social movement to save polar bears!

I don’t mind environmentalism when it comes to things like picking up your own litter, reducing the amount of garbage we throw away, appropriate management of toxic byproducts and reduction of careless wastefulness, and attempts to develop alternative technologies to the point where they make good economic sense.

I do object to heavy-handed government mandates that ignore thermodynamics, chemistry, biology, and economics in favor of blind zeal to make industry idealogically pure.
