When I heard Kerry talk about the “desertification” of Sudan, my reactions was “WTF?!?!”
As for the Supermodels pitch for global warming, it’s no more scientific (and certainly no less) than the rest of the climate change hysteria, but I submit it is a good deal more fun. I may be alone on this, but it’s the kind of debate I can get behind.
It was a jungle once, some years back. They have found dinosaur bones there.
The 350.org video is okay, but the girl in PETA’s State of the Union Undress (I am not going to link to it) show a lot more uh….dedication to their cause, if you know what I mean.

After watching that model video I realize there may be something to this global warming thing. I’ve recently detected a noticeable rise in the temperature in my office.
If global warming means more babes flashing their, er, attributes, I’m all in favor of it.
Let’s be honest. Has ANYONE actually watched the Inhofe video?
I still don’t buy the whole Global Warming thing, but I will do my best to tell supermodels they need to combat it.

Kerry is a slow study. He hasn’t learned anything since his “very” short tour with the swiftboats. On the subject of climate change the only people with a reasonable amount of scientific background that still support CO2 as a driver are those with there careers invested in it. Sane people can see that we are in a cooling mode for the last 10 years or so. They can also compare graphs of solar activity with global temperatures and discover a surprising correlation.
It seems to me that a big part of the the answer is what I have said more than once previously:
The fact that in the U.S., the vote of everyone (who can now vote) counts as much as the vote of everyone else; is at the same time our gretaest strength, and our greatest weakness.
That, as well as the seniority system,…and that fact that just enough of 50+% of voters in Massachusetts are ********; well, you can fill in the words.
I mean, the fact that one state, and not a large, populous one at that, can by itself “provide” us with Kennedy, Kerry, Markey, Frank, …and God knows whom else; it boggles the mind…and is scary as hell.
John Kerry is always one step behind the issue or trend, poor guy, and then makes an ass of himself.
My fondest memory is of him in his huntin’ costume and holding his gun incorrectly to try to get the huntin’ vote. Or, it was maybe his Telebubby outfit at NASA to get the NASA vote…or when he tried to play football and clenched his face and dropped the ball (to look like a regular football guy). He is trying to look intellectual now and appealing to the global eggheads and libs who fear the rising seas that will flood Boston.

What cracks me up, in a very blck humor sort of way, is listening to these hacks in Gov going full bore to crack down on all those evil emissions coming from coal fired power plants, Mercury!! And at the same time touting the benefits of CFL’s that have, you guessed it, Mercury and not being addressed at all – landfills anyone? When you read about what to do in case you break one, the more dire one was, if it breaks on the carpet, you should cut away at least 5 feet around the break point, roll it up, wrap it in plastic and despoce of it at your local toxic waste site.

I disagree. This country was never intended to be a “populist democracy”. In fact almost anything that would restrict the vote to those with even a small idea of issues and current events would be a major improvement.

Immediately, in the sense of over the last 10 or however many years, that might be so.
My position is that we really cannot tell, and that some arrogant, agenda-driven politicians and scientists are trying to convince 50+ % of voters that we are globally warming, and that civilization’s activities are causing the warming.
Unless we can look at “global temperature” from the beginning of time to the end of time, we really don’t know within what general trend a limited set of measurements is.
I analogize it thus:
One is walking on a million-mile road, with a known (but not to him) beginning and end; one notices declines, level surfaces, and inclines; measures the overall slope over, say, 15-20 miles; and then tries to extrapolate/speculate/ guess from those 15-20 miles what the overall slope of the road is from its beginning to its end – all the while ignoring the possibility that one very likely is in a short “up” in a long “down, or in a short “down” in a long “up”.
Another analogy would be if one tried (as some people do) to speculate on the long-term (tears) overall trend of a stock’s price, based on its hour-by-hour or minute-by-minute price fluctuations.
All of this has nothing to do with whether it makes sense, as I believe it does, to minimize as much as possible the waste of energy, indeed of any resource; and to minimize as much as possible the production of pollution; while at the same time keeping safe, and allowing to develop however they may, our modern economy and way of life.
Jim Inhofe is not very convincing either.
The Swiftboaters didn’t go far enough. He’s still in the Senate. His expertise regarding the military is about on a par with Joe Biden.
Like Frank Burns, I think he got his purple hearts(s) for shell framents in his eye – egg shell fragments from the mess hall.
What an insult he is to the military and this country.
I might be in the minority, but I found Sen. Inhofe’s video enlightening and informative. As for the brainless bimbos taking off their clothes, well, I suppose the global warming opponents could throw some money at them and get them to strip just as easily.
Problem is, it will end up being the Code Pink and other lefty hippies taking their clothes of in public. Then we will suffer from both the inane hysteria and the sight their flabby, hairy bodies simultaneously.

My points are that:
It is a strength that, say, George Soros’s vote, or Bill Gates’s vote, counts no more than mine;
while the fact that the vote of an ignorant, able-bodied, dole-collecting – nay, dole-demanding – irresponsible tax eater is equal to mine…hell, the fact that such an individual can vote at all,… has, over the past several years increasingly appeared to me to be a grave, likely fatal, weakness.
So the entire gist of message from 350.org is this: Get your politicians to vote for moonbatty climate change legislation and we’ll strip naked?
Can we conservatives provide a suitable counter-tactic? Film Pelosi, or Feinstein, or Al Gore, on vacation in a swimsuit and tell folks we’ll keep posting videos of them with their clothing off if they don’t get politicians to vote AGAINST AGW legislation!

Unfortunately, these sleezy non-intellectual “People Magazine”-type green PSAs do work with with a largely science illiterate public (despite the in the tank Science, Discovery, Nat Geo, Animal/Green Planet “science shows”). I remember in the 1960s when TV networks had “Science Editors” to explain the techology — especially space — of the time (Earl Ubell was the best!). When the lunar landings stopped, The Science Editor morphed into the “Science and Health Editor” that morphed into the “Health and Science Editor” till by the late 1980s all we had were “Health Editors” and the role of educating the public on science fell to pseudo-science shows with Bozo or mock-nerd hosts more inclined towards turning science into stupid rock-concert SPX stunts and political takes than true facts. I’d hate to stack up the science comprehension of a kid who watched “Mr. Wizard” with one raised on Bill Nye!
The most horrible thing about all this is I see absolutely NO counterweight to all this with untainted raw facts. The planet is currently cool and CO2 impoverished. …and such a condition occurred only one other time in earth’s history starting over 315 million years ago lasting for only,(relatively speaking), about ~40 million years. Our current climate is NO WHERE NEAR the ‘average’ over the last 600 million years. Both CO2 and temperature should both be much higher than they are now and plants would love it too,(those ‘green’ things).
I only watched about a minute and a half of the models video.Dissapointing,you can see that much skin on billboards.
What is the point of the girls taking of their clothes? I have been out with models like this and they are dumb.
Yes, I know that temperatures can be estimated and tracked based on ice-core and other data.
But, I don’t think we could know what the overall, ultimate trend, or slope is, from the beginning to the end of the earth, …until the end of the earth.
Yes, we can estimate average temperatures over certain “snapshot” periods (used as a general term, not periods in the geologic sense); and can then see trends, or slopes, over multiple snapshots/periods.
That still does not tell us what the overall, ultimate trend/slope is.
But, it may not be important to know that, anyway.
It is, IMO, the height of arrogance and absurdity to assume that humans are causing significant climate change.
Significant climate change is the change from past much hotter periods, to an ice age (if I remember correctly, there have been ?four?, not counting any “little ice ages”), to a period of temperatures such as we currently live in.
As I said above, what we rationally, and in a mature fashion, need to do is to figure out, among all of the trade-offs – welcome to reality, socialist loons – how to continue our advanced way of life and economic function as successfully as possible; while creating as little pollution as necessary/possible, and while using resources as efficiently as possible.

Well I’ll try to eliminate your hesitation and submit that it our past climate that defined the evolutionary path that resulted in the plants and animals so I believe the average of our past climate would likely be the best one for all concerned – especially the plants given how much better they fare generally in tropical heat with 3X to 4X more CO2, (ie – in a greenhouse).
Just considering temperature alone, the greatest bio-diversity, by a HUGE MARGIN, occurs in tropical regions – not where the polar bears live. Tropics are therefore closer to plant life’s evolutionary past.
I don’t disagree.

My point is that we of course do not know what temperatures the next hundreds of millions or few billions of years will bring to the earth.
So, blaming humans, as the dangerous socialist eco-idiots are, is just plain…well, stupid.

The major point is that this will be a high cost endeavor with a very low return on investment. The only thing that will get cooled down is our economy and the engine that drives it. The argument that companies will move to countries that have no intention of applying any pollution controls (presuming that CO2 is a pollutant) is particularly salient. Talk about cutting our own throats…

Some enviromentalists at my school decided to sleep in a tent a few days ago with a a “350.org” banner behind them. It was supposed to represent that thay are not using any carbon to heat their now onoccupoed but still heated room. It poured ALL night.
The women are stripping just so they can giggle when they see themselves on tv and the internet. They don’t give a flying farkle about the environment or anything else for that matter except knowing that people will be looking at them on tv and on the internet and watching them strip off their clothes.
Apparently too many years of marriage have taken the edge off the old Wilkinson, I don’t know how else I could’ve missed that.

If they truly cared about the environment so much so that they thought that sleeping in a tent instead of inside their home was some kind of contribution then they would destroy their house permanently, let the grass and trees and weeds grow where their home once stood, allow the mole, voles, mice, rats, stray cats, stray dogs, raccoons, foxes, owls, hawks, chipmunks, squirrels, bees, wasps, ants, termites, and on and on, to thrive where their house once stood.
Furthermore, if they TRULY think that human beings are causing CO 2 emissions that destroy the environment the they can go all the way and commit suicide, say bury themselves alive – saves on the environment and provides nutrients for Mother Earth. They could also dehydrate and starve themselves to death, as the courts ruled for Terri Schiavo.
Do you remember one of the biggest lessons we learned back then during the Terri Schiavo case, aside from the fact that a man, living for ten years with another woman with whom he has two children, can still be allowed to be called Terri’s “Husband” and allowed to decide to have her execute, and beside the new education we call got in which we learned that a person who is alive is actually “Dead” and just has to be allowed to “find peace” by being put to death?
One of the most revolutionary points we were all educated in back during the Terri Schiavo case is that being dehydrated and starved to death is does not hurt, it is not uncomfortable, and it is not painful, but, rather, being dehydrated to death and starved to death is a pleasant, euphoric experience in which the dying-executed-dehydrated and starved person is in bliss!
That woke many of us up, for we all thought we should care about the starving people in the world, and the people who were suffering from dehydration due to droughts.
As a result of the education I received regarding the Terri Schiavo case I now realized that I don’t have to worry about people being in pain and suffering when they have no water or foo, for they are actually experiencing euphoria and bliss.
No problem. We can just know that we are doing our fellow man, woman, child, and baby when we help them, or let them dehydrate or starve.
Anyway,
The extremist environmentalists can show their total dedication and terminate themselves, giving a clear demonstration of their resolve, and also relieving the earth of their carbon footprint forever.
If they truly think that not living in their house helps the environmet, let’s see them live outside with no home, not modern technology from now on!
