Stimulus efficiency success story of the day
Hey, how’s Obama’s job-creating stimulus working out for you, Philadelphia?
More hype than hope, as usual:
MORE THAN six months after President Obama’s $787 billion stimulus package was passed into law, the city of Philadelphia has spent less than $1 million in recovery money and retained just 52 jobs.
The data was laid out in a memo sent to Mayor Nutter from Budget Director Steve Agostini, and obtained by the Daily News. Agostini, who was recently assigned to oversee the city stimulus program, also reported that the city’s efforts to manage stimulus dollars have been hampered by limited communication between departments.
The news comes as the local unemployment rate continues to climb. The Philadelphia jobless rate hit 10.7 percent in August.
Oh, wait. Here’s one job that was created — a crony government job:
City Council today will hold a hearing on the city’s allocation and use of stimulus dollars. The panel will also present its own stimulus research, compiled by former city housing director Tommy Massaro, who has a $25,000 consulting contract with Council.
And the cure for poorly-administered federal funds?
More federal funds!
Meanwhile, Mayor Nutter yesterday traveled to Washington, where he and other members of the U.S. Conference of Mayors met with White House economic adviser Lawrence Summers. Their message? That stimulus dollars are not flowing into cities quickly enough to stem the rising tide of unemployment.
Tom Cochran, executive director of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, said that the group asked the White House for direct unemployment aid to cities.
“I would say that [the stimulus program] is a slow train and right now with the unemployment we have, it’s going to take more than a slow train,” Cochran said. “We need a federal express.”

Yep, our tax dollars at work.
Looks like all the stimulus money is being spent to protect government jobs.
Raging incompetence even when given a blank check. The thing that terrifies me about this present government is that they have ruined the country for the next 20 years at least.
The prosperity we knew will be replaced by a foggy malaise so severe and long lasting that people will come to accept their fate. The statist elites will have reset the economic expectations of the American people to a far lower standard, and from there it will be much easier for them to further tighten the noose on liberty.
Who’d a thunk dat?
Brilliant.Congress.Not.
Philly is neck-and-neck with Chicago where waste and corruption are concerned.
well, the states have held onto it’s teachers and gubmint workers, and still says it has cut thousands of jobs saving the taxpayers tons. the problem is, just as the “cuts” to our budget which just means they want a 40% increase in money this year, but will accept 5% increases, so they cut the gubmint by 35%. well, the state gubmints wanted to hire 2000 new nonworkers, but they can only sneak 500 onto the roles, so they cut the state nonworkers by 75%. only the gubmint can mandate GAAP rules and then blatantly ignore them in their accounting of everything.
And speaking of a federal express: Hey New Jersey – how’s the Corzine Express, fueled by High-Octane taxes and Job-Eliminating regulatory additives, been workin’ out for ya?
Please tell me the polls are wrong, and you guys aren’t seriously considering reelecting a guy who has no idea about job creation and market-driven prosperity -
I have but one thing to leave you with:

Now we have the Neocomms…
Let the whores keep pushing. These fools who thought Obama, Axelrod and Emanuel would “move to the center” need some ‘splaing to do themselves. Bambi did talk his marxist trash all during the election-no one has an excuse. If we accept this or push back is up to us-I fear November 2010 will tell us how we push. Will there be an election or a putsch?
On a somewhat more hopeful note two of my nephews are reading Atlas Shrugged-something in the air? Is a new generation refusing to kneel before the Pretender? Heaven knows all too many of my generation sold their souls to Nanny.
We got the Midnight Express.
Don’t people realize that most of the stimulus money is being held in abeyance as a campaign war chest?!
Hey Mr. Nutter, here’s an idea for ya …
Cut some taxes in that over-taxed city of yours!
(Full disclosure: While RWR is not politically aligned with Mr. Nutter, there is a connection between the two.)

Love child perhaps?
I have said this many times before, the stimulous money was designed and will be used as a WAR CHEST for democratic reelection campaigns. Jobs will be created long enough to bring numbers down when needed as PR tidbits. Funding will be provided from this war chest to ACORN, SEIU and their affiliates to buy votes. money from this war chest will be given to other politicians to prop them up in front of their constituents.
REMEMBER: you heard about this before it happened.
How many Goldman Sachs offices in Philly?
I’m not sure why the government hasn’t taken over the Cheesteak Sandwich business though. There must be a ‘wit’ czar somewhere.
Nutter: what a perfect name for a Democrat politician.
Well, Duh!
Democrat politicians = thieves.
Very funny haha
Actually I have performed for the Mayor. Needless to say to rave reviews …
That’s my connection. I got a high five as he crossed the stage. We had a big joke that I probably shouldn’t be flashing my RNC card around at the function hahha…

I’d love to see them try to take Joey Vento’s business … He’s been buying radio time to fight Obamacare.
The Philly cheesesteak, at least a la Geno’s, will be alive and well.
Please order in English …

Nutty’s actually a pretty nice guy.
Still, he’s the last guy I’d want holding the purse-strings for any city, state, or nation.
