Alan Grayson breaks down — or rather, simulates it

By Michelle Malkin  •  October 29, 2009 06:14 PM

I’ve been blogging the emotion card-playing from desperate Obamacare advocates all week.

Now, Florida’s favorite Democrat potty mouth has jumped on stage (hat tip – William Amos):

Democratic Congressman Alan Grayson is making headlines again Thursday morning for his comments on health care reform. But this time it’s for a very different reason.

The Central Florida lawmaker broke down Wednesday as he spoke to Congress about why he’s fighting for reform.

Grayson read letter after letter from people across the country who wrote to him about their problems with the current health care system.

“I lost my mother and I’m only 23 years old. I have no other family. I spend Christmas alone. I would do anything to ensure this never happens again to anyone,” Grayson read.

Video at the link if you can stand it. I’d say he exudes about as much sincerity as a used car salesman, but that would be an insult to used car salesmen.

My brother-in-law worked construction. He changed jobs a lot, but they all provided health care until they didn’t have to any more, because the labor market was flooded with illegal workers.

In the ’80′s he made $12.00 an hour, good money for the era, with full benefits.

During the housing boom, his wages should have gone up as the demand for labor increased. Instead, he made $8.25 with no benefits, and almost all of his co-workers spoke Spanish.

He also got cancer while uninsured, and all his treatments were covered by various charities and government programs.

There is so much that can be done and could have been done in terms of market reforms for healthcare that it is appalling to see the entire debate reduced to emoting over government power, government mandates, and government take-over. There are people who believe the government is literally a combination God and Santa Clause, that the thing can not only stop death but bring back the dead (I’m thinking of Edwards’s odd comments on Christopher Reeves). There is no arguing with or debating these people. There is only telling them No.

How is government run health care going to help when we know it will end up costing us more? Liberals like Grayson use emotion to distract us from the facts.

Two such facts are inescapable. The health care industry’s profits last year amounted to 2.2% of revenue. Compare that with the 12% ($60 billion of $500 billion) in waste and fraud spent by Medicare, which was in addition to overhead. Can anyone honestly make the case, using facts rather than emotion, that letting the government run health care is going to result in any kind of savings?

They say we should trust them to find the extra money needed to fund the public option by eliminating waste and fraud in Medicare. I say prove that first, then we can talk.

Or, does he think that his little section of the country has fallen for the lie resulting in votes? I would think that would be the reason. He can’t be that ignorant and gullible to believe he is doing good for the country. There are many people, in this country, whose whole concept of the Constitution is the “general welfare clause” and the 1st and 2nd amendments. He, like many in congress, could be one of them. In the end, he’s a “kisser”, hoping to be noticed in the frenzy of power-grabbing and votes. He ought to read history. He’d find out quickly that such people like him are the first to “fall”. The letter that gets Grayson crying is an obvious fake. The guy who supposedly lost his mother, (his “only relative”) is only 23 years old. Well, surely the guy has a father. Where is the father? And his mom likely had brothers and sisters so the guy has uncles and aunts. And surely his dad has brothers and sisters so he has uncles and aunts on the paternal side of the family. And if he is only 23, his grandparents are likely still alive. So the letter stinks worse than the Fulton Fish Market. And the letter never states that the mom died due to lack of health insurance. If she was about 50 years old or so, she probably had a job related insurance or her husband had a policy that will cover her. Or she could get a job and afford a policy. The letter is so fraudulent that a kindergartner would see through it.

Sounds like Chappy is a right-wing fanatic pretending to be a left-wing fanatic pretending to be a right-wing fanatic pretending to be left-wing fanatic in a glorious attempt to discredit left-wing nutjobs.

Of course, no help is needed in that regard as the left-wing nutjobs pretty much have that process well in hand.

I think Chappy got the idea from that old Julie Andrews movie, “Victor/Victoria” which I am sure Chappy thinks is based on his story.

Oh, and Charlie Crist is a weenie and Sarah Palin is a MAJOR BABE and Alan Grayson is a weasel and a stupid git! I think that covers the “OT” issues…

At the risk of being labeled naive or soft ot stupid, I’m gonna state that I think Grayson and Glenn Beck are both sincere in their emotional expressions.

My family circumstance is virtually the same as the person in that letter. The only difference is I’m about 20 years older. So it may not be a likely story but it is not unheard of.
This is not why I think his tears are real or that I support his solution to health care. Just lending a little credibility to the story.

I mean, are you going to pretend that Beck doesn’t cry for real and has a point to make?

He may have a point to make. His tears are still fake.

Really? Really? And you know his tears are “fake” because you’ve become the fake tears detector? Hmmmm… it sounds like you have a beef with Beck but not with Grayson. Why is that?

Then again…. it really isn’t your point just more misdirection of the other side uses “fake” tears so when a Dem employs them it shouldn’t count. Is that your argument?

I don’t know what you have against Glenn Beck and I don’t care but at least just admit you have a beef with him and move on. You wouldn’t have linked the “fake tears tapes” if there wasn’t something more behind it.

So, what exactly gets under your skin about Beck? That he cares about the country and investigating this administration while Obummer water carriers like you would rather point to his “fake” tears as proof that he should be dismissed?

You really need to get over yourself, Chaps. Whatever your beef with Glenn Beck, it has nothing to do with Alan Grayson and you know it.
