Corzine pays homage to Big Labor, adds obligatory plug for Obamacare

By Michelle Malkin  •  November 3, 2009 11:07 PM

Losing corruptocrat NJ Gov. Jon Corzine just wrapped up his concession speech. He made a special effort to single out Big Labor several times for their support — and also made an obligatory plug for the Dems’ government health care takeover plans in Washington.

Alas, union brass knuckles were not enough to carry him over the finish line. “Knock and drag” tactics failed this time. Forewarned is forearmed:

The arguments have been made, the jokes and insults traded, the presidents, mayors and governors trotted forth — now it’s time to get voters to the booths, campaigners said.

“We call it knock and drag,” said Jim Williams, general president and director of organizing of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, with about 3,500 members in New Jersey. “We knock on the door and drag ‘em out to vote.” Democratic Gov. Jon Corzine joined national union leaders on a get-out-the-vote bus tour throughout the state, while Republican challenger Chris Christie campaigned at diners.

With the candidates neck-and-neck in the polls, voter turnout is crucial for each party. The sunny weather traditionally favors Democrats, but an overall dissatisfaction for Corzine and unhappiness over property taxes that are the highest in the nation could hamper turnout in this traditionally blue state.

Labor union workers, many who said they were unemployed because there were “no jobs,” showed up at rallies in places like Bayonne in Hudson County to pick up packets with home addresses of members mapped out and campaign literature to distribute.

In the hall of the Boilermakers 28, Corzine rallied the workers, repeating a now-familiar theme that the election was about more than the names on the ballot, but about families, jobs and health care.

“I want to be a voice for labor,” the governor said to hoots, cheers and whistles.

I’m sure the Obama administration is cooking up a consolation prize pronto.

Fun fact: Corzine mentioned in his speech that his mother is a Republican and joked that she is happy tonight. He then awkwardly dissed her by dismissing her politics as a function of her age (she is 93). So, he insults fat people on the campaign trail and old people while making his concession address.

Stay classy, Corzine!

Jeez… this idiot not only needs to exit stage left, he needs to get over himself. The only reason he was governor in the first place is because of his personal, deep pockets, he was already a senator, and, like a good Dem, he knew how to rig elections.

What a classy liberal. I’m sorry, but big labor can kiss my a$$. My father’s union left him high and dry during a workman’s comp hearing/appeal and my father never got to finish his job on HIS terms. The only thing that big labor is good at is fixing elections and trotting out their loyal little lemmings to the voting booth. What would Corzine have to say to young Republicans or conservatives? That our party affiliation is a function of our age? What a POS!

He won’t be missed. Too bad he wasn’t indicted first like some of the NJ governors before him.

My sister still lives in NJ and told me she was considering voting for the independent as a protest. I cautioned her that this would simply be a vote for Corzine. It’s so funny that fat John would joke about Christie’s weight problem when it took a serious auto accident injury to slim him down to merely chubby. At least he wasn’t able to buy another election.

Corzine did not mention the tawdry affair that he had with the woman who was president of the New Jersey teachers association. There was alot of funny business of Corzine “loaning” her money (I think it was ostensibly for a home purchase) and then “forgiving” the loan. Even the New York Times editorialized about the blatant conflict of interest. It did raise the question of how Corzine could negotiate with the teachers union when his paramour was running the show for the union. And Corzine’s “negotiations” with the public sector unions were not really negotiations at all. They were more like unconditional surrender. The unions were like General MacCarthur on the USS Missouri and Corzine was like the emperor surrendering. But at least the emperor of Japan did it with dignity.

I remember this. Was he married at the time? I think he was divorced. I don’t recall since I tend to blot out the shenanigans that occur in that state (and New York).

This illustrated example is another reason why I’m disgusted, dismayed, and ashamed of my home state of New York (which had similar issues). I have family in New Jersey that are split about its politics: one likes the overtaxation and another can’t stand it. What really infuriates me is how dirty to the bone BOTH states are, excepting some local areas who make an effort to clean up the corruption and stay away from it.

I wish people in New Jersey and New York would just wake the hell up. Is it any wonder that people are leaving New York in droves (is it 1.5 million at last count in the past 8 years?). Corzine was as much an example of how bad New Jersey has gotten as the likes of McGreavey and other Dem governors before him.

Now how ’bout sweeping that dope Patterson out of office for good measure?

Corzine was not only a boob, he was a corrupt one. Partnering with “big labor” to win an election when your state is hemorraging jobs is the height of arrogance. What did he promise these suckers if they voted for him or worked for his campaign? What were they promised in return? I’d love to know.

You couldn’t pay me a million bucks to live in New Jersey. I have family and friends who live there and I don’t know how they do it. The traffic, the crime, the rudeness. I’ve visited New Jersey for a couple of days and that’s enough for me. Don’t even get me started on NJ’s abusive taxation practices.

I don’t know how Corzine and his “ilk” can say that they care about people when they’ve run the state into the ground, they’ve penalized hard-working homeowners with punitive taxes, yet still give this money to the “undeserving.”

The big question that I’d like those with insight into New Jersey is the following: what has Corzine’s leadership cost New Jersey?

Wow. Corzine dumps $120 Million of his own money campaigning for the U.S. Senate and then Governor of New Jersy. $30 million of this against Christi along with FIVE trips by Obama to flap his silver jaws for Corzine, could not do the trick. It is good to know that sometimes all the money you can spend along with everything the incumbent president can say is not enough to put the candidate back in office again. I’ll bet the Obam-ster is truly upset this morning. Why, I’ll bet he grabbed some flowers from a vase and hurled them at the tv set.
