The chutzpah of Harry Reid

By Michelle Malkin  •  November 3, 2009 12:27 PM

The man is really something else. Really something else. He still doesn’t have a health care bill to show the American people, but he’s whining that Republicans don’t have sufficiently “comprehensive” alternatives of their own — when, in fact, Republicans have had plenty of legislative proposals on the table. The chutzpah of Harry Reid knows no bounds:

As you also know, we are now working to take these publicly-available provisions and meld them together into a single bill. Apart from my decision to include a public option from which states may opt out, no final decisions have been made – and none can be made until we get more information about how CBO would score different combinations. In other words, there is no bill to release publicly – it does not exist.

… assure you that I will make the legislation available to the full Senate and the American people prior to its consideration. There will be ample opportunity to examine and evaluate its provisions. Furthermore, if we are able to overcome your opposition to permitting the Senate to even debate this important legislation, all members will have the opportunity to offer amendments. I have no intention of rushing this process or blocking senators from offering alternatives.

While the two health care reform plans that are serving as the main building blocks for the merged bill have been publicly available for quite some time, I would note that the Republican leadership’s health care plan remains a secret, unless perhaps it does not exist.

Via Sean Hackbarth, here is Sen. Judd Gregg’s Coverage, Prevention and Reform plan.

And here is Sen. Jim Demint’s Health Care Freedom Plan.

And here is Sen. Bob Bennett’s Healthy Americans Act.

And here is the Patients’ Choice Act of Sens. Coburn and Burr and Reps. Ryan and Nunes.

Dingy Harry can’t stop projecting.

The government encouragement of health insurance via the employer has drastically distorted the market.

I’m afraid the transition to an alternative system has to recognize and correct that terrible litany of government intrusion into the marketplace.

Simply throwing open the market to interstate competition is not enough. Absolutely, it’s the starting point, but it’s not enough.

We need a one-time “reset” of the market. One that gives people with pre-existing conditions a chance to get affordable insurance.

I don’t think we should hide the cost of this in overall insurance premiums, or give people some kind of “enduring” right to insurance without underwriting.

Whether the government acts as reinsurer or pays a subsidy equal to the actuarial value of the pre-existing condition, we must reset the marketplace.

Such intrusion stinks, but sometimes it’s the only way to put markets back on the right track after decades of horrendous government sponsored distortions.

Harry Reid is nothing more than a political hack bent on keeping his political seat at any costs. Some have asserted he’s taking a “stand” at the expense of his political survival regarding Health Care but I don’t see it. He and that witch Pelosi are far left dupes whose strings are being pulled by other people.

Who really represents the Dem party anymore? These people are beholden to the unions and special interests, not the American people. They are the party of the handouts to weak people who can’t (or won’t) make decisions for themselves.

How this man gets off accusing Republicans of not having an answer is rich. Repubs have been shut down and dismissed.

The fact is that Reid and Pelosi are tone deaf.
