Making sure the message sticks: More rejected RNC forms
Conservatives are making sure the RNC and NRCC hear their voices. As I mentioned this morning, readers continue to e-mail me copies of the rejected RNC solicitation forms they’ve sent back to Washington.
GOP offices better prepare for a new onslaught. As I said earlier this morning, the repercussions of NY-23 will be felt well beyond New York’s borders.

GOP leader John Boehner today via J.P. Freire:
When asked about rumors that the New York Republican Party picked Scozzafava because of the advice of Washington insiders who felt she would be a more electable candidate, Boehner rolled his eyes. “We told them to hold off on a decision, to work with us, but they went ahead and did it.”
So if she was a rotten egg, why spend money? “All the money spent on that race was anti-Owens money, not pro-Scozzafava money.”
The second claim is demonstrably false, casting fatal doubt on the first claim, too.
J.P. also has this reminder of NRCC trashing of Hoffman:
“[Conservative] Party bosses in New York have been sold a bill of goods in the form of Doug Hoffman’s deceptive smoke-and-mirrors campaign, but fortunately they aren’t the ones deciding this election,” said Paul Lindsay, a spokesman for the NRCC, which has produced Web ads attacking Hoffman’s conservative bona fides. “We will continue to remind New Yorkers that a vote for Hoffman or Bill Owens is a vote for Nancy Pelosi and her far-left, radical agenda.”
Gag.

Nice work. I particularly like the rhino drawing.
You lie!
Besides, had the GOP chosen Hoffman instead of ScuzzyFavors, then it would have been anti-Owens money. And…5% of the vote wouldn’t have gone to DumDum.
The GOP could have won this race easily by supporting the conservative candidate.
Dump the GOP leadership and put intelligent leaders in.

Sorry! Double hit the mouse button.
Why do I get the awful feeling John Cornyn, Mike Steele, et.al. are plugging their collective ears and yelling, “LALALALALA!! WE PICKED A GOOD CANDIDATE!! YOU CONSERVATIVES SHOULD TRUST US!!!”
What are you? Braindead? Or do you just think we are?
tre, the only good aspect of politicians is they will always look out for themselves (if your needs get met, fine). I think we have started to get their attention- let’s ensure the lesson gets driven home HARD! Donate only to candidates and be sure and tell the GOP you do so because they can not be trusted. Make them earn it back.
Every form sent back must also include the demand that Primaries be CLOSED! We don’t need DemocRats and Independents picking our candidates for us!
Democrats and Republicans – working together to destroy our Constitution and our way of life.
This is great! I love it! I sent in a few similar ones myself. We have to hit the party where it hurts, right in the wallet, until they get the message.
No RINOs, no dem-lite, no watered-down party, no costumed democrats, no BS.
We want good old apple-pie and baked potatoes American Conservatives! THE REAL DEAL!
That may have been your intention, Mr. Boehner, but the road to Hades is paved with good intentions. All of you party bigwigs clearly misjudged Scuzzyfava as well as the wishes of your party’s grass roots.
How liberal is Owens from NY23? I looked at a couple of articles about him, and this guy could have easily been a Republican candidate. He is a social conservative who opposes gay marriage and he is pro-life. He gives lectures on business law and was selected by the prior republican governor, Pataki. He holds an MBA, Law Degree, and is a veteran. In fact his military credentials should please most of the commenters here. He is by no means a life long democrat and was actually an independent candidate before being offered to be on the Democratic ticket. His pro “employee free choice” position doesn’t sit well with me, but we shall see how his voting record stands up. I do believe that America has been and remains a center-right nation. I would like to see Owens vote in the way that represents his county. In fact he will easily keep that seat, if he votes as a fiscal conservative and social conservative. If on the other hand he votes in a way that continues to burden our economy, cause loss of jobs, and promote “Pelosi’s San Francisco Values”, he will have a very short run in Congress. Hoffman or any other candidate will easily defeat him in 2010.
He probably realizes that he would have lost this election had it not been for Dede Scozzafo causing confusion at the ballot box. These 6800 votes, probably cast by people who didn’t realize that the republican candidate had quit, would have been more than enough to tip the election to Hoffman.
Except that, according to the polling, the people that DID realize Dede had withdrawn clearly tilted toward Owens. They are not a bunch of Luddites up there. They have TV and radio and internet. Some people chose to vote for Dede despite her withdrawing.
The establishment GOP bet it’s farm on a candidate who had a tough time getting even 5% of the vote. Not too bright.
The RNC needs to face the music–their boneheaded handling of the entire DeeDee Dumb nomination cost them big-time, and not just this seat. I think they directly caused voter confusion for some and voter defection by others because of her liberal positions. She was a loser from the beginning. The RNC owes Republicans everywhere an apology.
So can we shout out to the GOP leadership that “You lie!” without being called racists? I wish I could be sure on that, but the RINO rot is so deep nothing they do would surprise me anymore. My God, what a bunch of treasonous slimeballs. And that’s just our own party. Or was.
I love armchair quarterback analysis.
According to the article, Hoffman lost because he over robo-called and under junk-mailed. Does anyone not hang up on robocalls? Does anyone actually read the crap mail? These are a waste of time, effort, and money.
Throw up all you want on the public ad infested airwaves, go on talk shows, have a townhall meeting, put up a website, but leave my phones and mailboxes out of it, or I may just vote for the guy I didn’t get spammed by.
I’d write something on GOP fundraising appeals, too, but being an independent I don’t get such junkmail!
Chapoteer thinks that the people in NY23 who voted for Scozzo, did so because of their devotion to this candidate and while well aware that she had already withdrawn from the race? You must be crazy, if you really believe that.
Chapoteer, were you born crazy, is there some degenerative nerve disease in your family, or did you pick up a case of Parisian acne and never got a shot of penicillin? You may want to see a doctor.
According to Newsday Obama was doing robocalls in NY23.
And yes, anyone who listens to any robocall for anything needs a complete psych workup, IMO.
I’m thinking if there were another week or two in the campaign Hoffman would have pulled it off.
The question perhaps could be, could he have been a conservative, traditionalist candidate?
If so, then why did he run for the socialist party?
Without injecting socialist party comments into the class lectures?
Forgive me, but selected for what?
How conservative was Pataki, actually? (An informational, not a contentious question.)
I’ll ask again: Then why did he run for the socialist party?
Why did he accept being on the socialist party ticket?
That might help explain why he ran for the socialist party.
If he doesn’t vote with the socialists, then why did he run for the socialist party?
And…?
What exactly does that mean?
(Again – an informational, not a contentious question.)
If he should vote that way, then I have to ask yet again: Why did he run for the socialist party?
In other words, if he votes as a socialist, which is, after all, the party he ran for.
From your mouth to
god’s eaars.
Ummm…my aunt did exactly that. Your explanation is that 6% of voters in an off year election, who tend to be the most die hard, would not know about the biggest political news story of the election.
Naw, Chap, there’s always the terminally stupid-uniformed vote. You can take at least a point away from all candidates on that account.
For example, ponder the idiots who have no idea whom they will vote for until they get into the polling booth. Never ceases to amaze me.
Oops….
…God’s ears.
apologies.
I suspect this race, being so close, has put some Fear O’ God in him if he wants to run 2010.
Contrarily, if he goes full bore Obama-leftist he’s gone for sure in 2010.
As long as Republican so-called “leadership” (read: capitulating door-mat morons) insist on throwing party money behind any old schmuck willing to put an (R) behing their name for 15 minutes, they’ll never see a nickel of mine. I’ve had enough of perpetually unprincipled RINOs behaving as though conservative core beliefs are an afterthought.
How Hoffman wins NY-23 in 2010. Here’s Pelosi’s take on last night’s results per Politico:
She is already counting Owens’ vote in favor of Obamacare despite his very narrow victory. Will Owens walk the plank? Did he go through all of this just to serve for one year?
I say Owens turns into a Blue Dog soon or Hoffman can already start measuring that office for curtains.
Hey some turn into RINOs but why start with a sure thing — Like Crist. Choose Rubio for Florida, avoid the Specter clone, Crist. Shameful political announcement.
And the new Democrat Party talking points are:
There is a Civil War going on inside the Republican Party!
And that’s supposed to be a bad thing?
I told my wife that if the R’s won in the governors races, the stock market would be in the green to day, and tomorrow, indicating that investors like the direction politics is taking. Today the Dow is up already over 116 pts.
How will the Dem’s spin this? Oh yeah…”It just shows that Obama’s financial principles, and his stimulus is working…”
Um…o-k-a-y…
They also need a copy of the Constitution as well. The gov has become this giant amoeba, surrounding and gobbling up everything in sight and then sticking us with the bill.
Yeah, there is a civil war going on in the GOP but after we have dispatched with those RINOs, we will be coming after those Dems too.
It’s bad enough that the RINOs refuse to fight the Dems themselves, but they insist on blocking our path as we try to do it for them. Get out of the way already!
I am greatful to Hoffman for NY23, on many levels.
1. If he didn’t enter the race, that seat would have gone to a crazy lying liberal named Dede Scozz. Even having lost to Owens, we wound up with a more conservative candidate than the Republican choice.
2. He demonstrated that conservatives are a serious force in this country. He also demonstrated that whether we like it or not, our path remains tied to the Republicans, and that we need to do everything possible to improve this established party. I thank him from saving us from another embarrassment like Snow.
3. I thank him for fighting on our behalf. He encouraged many others to join in this fight for our country. In many ways we, as American conservatives, won this day.
Phil, it is not just inside the GOP. This civil war has engulfed the our entire country.
Oh I just saw Chap’s last comment. He said that his aunt voted for candidates who had already dropped out of the race prior to election. Maybe, there is a familiar neuro-degenerative disorder in your family. Get some help, dude.
Should NY-23 recall all absentee ballots since those voters cast their vote before Dede dropped out? That would be interesting.
Chap,
The main reason I am urging you to get medical help is not because you have a crazy aunt. It is because you talk about her behavior as if it were sane. You may want to hurry, because if the donkeys pass their health bill, your chances of getting competent medical help within this country will greatly diminish.
No argument here. The growth of Tea Party participation is signaling that citizens will not sit idly by as its bipartisan government wages war against individual freedom.
We have demonstrated that when expounding on our core conservative principles, America is very responsive. We conservatives have, after all, been re-educating America about the true liberal ideals of our Founders, the ideals of liberty growing out of personal virtue. We might want to ponder on the possibility that label “conservative” may be getting in the way of our message. Message fine, label….? I like “Spirit of ’76 Liberals”.
Hoffman came very close to doing both, Phil. Multitasking!
Haha! Nice job peeps! I got taken off their list after a “contentious” fund raising phone call earlier this year..
They know not to ask me for money..
This bears repeating. We will know the party is serious about the Constitution if/when they close the primaries.
Evan Bayh is going to know me by name!
His official position on federally subsidiized abortion “He has no position.”
We be sending him a coupon for U-haul and some empty boxes.
Woopsie! Wrong thread.
I did write a nastee-gram to RNC.
LMAO @ Denise’s “contribution reply” where she lists the payment method of “OBAMA MONEY” next to the “Visa/MC/American Express/Discover” options. HILARIOUS!
Unfortunately, I don’t get requests for money from the GOP, but I have sent my AARP bill back three times with strong anti-Obama socialist health care words on it… I hope that counts for something.
I started do this several years ago. I was really offended by the phrase “compassionate conservatism”. Every time I heard it I felt like I had been spat upon.
It only took a few times for the RNC and the NRCC to stop sending me solicitations and I still don’t get them. Occasionally I’ll get one from a candidate (I sometimes make a contribution) but the party doesn’t send me any more.
Anyone besides me getting these ‘past-due’ stamped in red on the outside of the envelopes from our hero Mr. Steele? I’m getting about one a week, writing nasty comments and mailing it back in their postage paid envelope hasn’t cured them.
single stack
“compassionate conservatism” always made me feel like I had to go through another baptism to be a member of the party.
Now, don’t take this the wrong way, but here is a crazy thought:
What if the NY-23 voters wanted Scozzafava because her type of RINO Republican is all that they ever knew? What if these people were afraid of giving up their precious subsidies, pork projects, and decided to just go all in for her? Does anybody know if McHugh was a RINO? I don’t know much about him or the voting history of the types of congressional representation this district had in the past.
I think that so many people are all over the place in their political belief systems that they really don’t know up from down. When my very Republican mother can spout anti-capitalist crap to me over the phone, I know that people can carry multiple contrary views.
Then again, such is the current state of NY and its GOP. I think there are many in New York, even if they’re “republicans,” who lean Democrat on other issues and not just social ones. You’d be surprise the types of Republicans, who say they’re “republicans” yet carry very Dem views.
Yes, there are conservatives, but I think they’ve become outnumbered by the RINO voters with less “rigid” belief systems. This is why I became an Independent in the first place. It’s all a label game and New Yorkers play it so well.
*I still get many mailers and enjoy sending them back with Bush Pesos and bold print on what to do with the RINO’s; We must keep the pressure on to avoid another Schizofava; Crist and McCain come to mind, so let’s go RINO hunting!
*Congrats to Doug Hoffman, who came out of nowhere and came close to winning; I hope he runs in 2010, as I will send hime some more coin.
It appears Vinny has been fully briefed on Chappy…
Sorry guys but I am not so high on finishing second. I understand a lot of factors contributed to that but coming close is good in horseshoes and hand grenades but is still a loser in an election.
The only comfort I have is that Hoffman was not a polished pol and could get better at that and there will be another election for that seat in 2010.
The RNC still does not have its act together. Maybe this helps send a message but many could read the message that Conservatives finish second to Democrats. Not exactly the stuff that dreams are made of. Kinda like the message you send when you vote for a candidate that dropped out of the race and you knew it. Send a message and be a loser. To each his own I guess.
Plus Hoffman was leading in the polls. What happened?
Thanks for posting my Rhino / RINO picture, Ms. Malkin. I am tickled pink. That being said, I understand that they pay the postage when you put it back in the mailbox so it wastes their money. And I am happy to do so. I have given small amounts (small, not a rich person here) in the past and I won’t do it in the future until they go back to being a conservative party. For all the recent hawing over Newt Gingrich, I did appreciate his 1994 revolution – but was disappointed when the Contract With America was not pushed through. Newt, when you come back, sir, I will as well. The last election was a RINO vs. a socialist. I voted third party. I knew I was throwing my vote. I will continue to do so until I am happy. Right now I am not. Until then, Rakkasans….
At the beginning of his first term as governor, Pataki was fairly conservative. By the time he left office, he was about as conservative as Nancy Pelosi.
Being endorsed by Pataki is NOT a Conservative credential.
When was the last time “conservatism” lost an election?
From Rush:
Will the Gov. Steele and the rest of the Republican Party leadership get it now?
Unfortunately, the RNC is giving out a kick a55 Reagan 2010 calendar with paid memberships.
It’s almost like ‘bait’ to true conservatives!
My Dad has his copy of the calendar; he’s 87 and I couldn’t persuade him to cancel this year.
MM, did you get my pix link in email?
CLICK
As I said on a different thread, I sign all the money grubbing stuff from DC this way: “Grow a spine and a pair and you’ll get some money” the Republicans have no backbone at all. It’s always “bend over and grab the ankles!” They need to fight fire with fire, No, we don’t need to fall to the level of the insane, lunatic left but they don’t always have to have a yellow streak on their backs either.
I see Pelosi’s couch mate, Newt Ginrich, is claiming he was for Hoffman after he was against Hoffman. That seems familiar somehow. I need to send him a pair of John Kerry autographed flip flops. If that man is really that spineless he must have sat on a boom handle just to stand up.
And thanks for the link Dandapani, if the dummies bother to send me anymore solicitations I will use that–and 5 centavo coin.
Bush Pesos
Anyone know where the McCain Pesos are?
I work for an org that takes donations via direct mail.
I open the envelopes and collect the donations. When I see anything other than money, the address goes in the “Do Not Mail” list.
These messages are nice, but I guarantee the people reading them aren’t being paid enough to care.
Just sayin’.
I do agree with the sentiment, though.
Vintage, the folks on top will get the message when the $/envelope drops.
BTW, Friends, remember to open the letter from the GOP and return the inner reply envelope, if you write your message on the outer envelope and mark it “return” it will go no farther than the trash can at the post office with the undeliverable bulk mail.
