Battling Pelosicare; Update: Thousands descend on D.C., “You work for us!”

Scroll for updates…Fox News is livestreaming the Capitol protest here

Hey, Nancy, look out the window. You can see health care protesters from your House.

Protest signs at the Capitol

House Republicans are holding a 12-hour live online telecast today starting at 1pm Eastern to expose the perils and pitfalls of Pelosicare — and to spotlight the GOP alternative.

You can tune in here. Spread the word.

***

Reminder: Rep. Michele Bachmann, Mark Levin, and Jon Voight will join other House Republicans and grass-roots activists from across the country on the Capitol steps at noon today to protest the Democrats’ government health care takeover plans. Be there in spirit for Operation Housecall by melting the phones today.

***

The CBO has scored the GOP health care reform alternative:

House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement after the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) confirmed in a letter tonight that the Republican health care plan will lower health care premiums by up to 10 percent and reduce the deficit by $68 billion over 10 years without imposing tax increases on families and small businesses:

“When it comes to reforming health care, controlling skyrocketing costs is the American peoples’ top priority. Now CBO has confirmed that the Republican plan will lower health care costs for American families, and that’s good news for everyone struggling in today’s economy. The choice now could not be clearer: Speaker Pelosi’s plan raises costs. Our plan lowers them.

“Not only does the GOP plan lower health care costs, but it also increases access to quality care – including for those with pre-existing conditions – at a price our country can afford. The cost of the Speaker’s bill, now at $1.3 trillion and counting, is a debt that will be paid for by our kids and our grandkids. The American people deserve a better solution, and Republicans’ smart, fiscally-responsible plans give them exactly what they want.”

NOTE: In a letter delivered tonight, CBO estimated that the GOP health care plan would reduce average private health insurance premiums per enrollee in the United States relative to what they would be under current law. Specifically:

• For the small group market (generally businesses with 2 to 50 employees), the GOP plan would reduce premiums in 2016 for example by up to 10 percent.
• For the individual market, the GOP plan would reduce premiums in 2016 by up to eight percent.
• For the large group market, the GOP plan would reduce premiums in 2016 by up to three percent.

Now is the time to disabuse Nancy Pelosi of the delusional notion that she “won” election night.

***

Crikey:

When asked by CNSNews.com what specific part of the Constitution authorizes Congress to mandate that individuals must purchase health insurance, Sen. Roland Burris (D-Ill.) pointed to the part of the Constitution that he says authorizes the federal government “to provide for the health, welfare and the defense of the country.” In fact, the word “health” appears nowhere in the Constitution.

Update 11:30am Eastern. Politico reports that thousands have descended on the Capitol. There have been a few arrests… of Code Pinkos who protested at Joe Lieberman’s office.

Capitol Police arrested nine protesters Thursday morning in the Hart Senate office building as thousands of Tea Party activists descended on the Capitol building to protest the trillion dollar health care bill and government spending.

The gathering was organized by local Tea Party groups around the country, who are arriving in Washington this morning by the busload. Conservative leaders in Congress, led by Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), have taken to the airwaves to encourage the activists to show up on the Capitol steps and demand meetings with members of Congress. The crowd is expected to grow into the thousands by noon, when Bachmann has promised to lead some protesters to a press conference inside the Capitol to express their opposition to the health care bill in person to members of Congress.

Speaking on conservative talker Laura Ingraham’s radio show this morning, Bachmann encouraged people listening to show up on the West Front steps, but she said they should show up with “cameras” instead of “pitchforks.”

A Capitol Police spokeswoman confirmed to POLITICO that nine activists were arrested in the Hart building, and they are being processed at police headquarters. All the buildings in the Capitol complex remain open for now.

The protesters, who are occupying the patch of grass only a few yards from where Barack Obama took the oath of office on Jan. 20, are chanting “you work for us!” Many are holding signs that echo their distrust of Obama and their belief that he is pursuing socialist policies.

Attendees report that crowd is shouting “Kill the bill!” and calling out Pelosi. Follow #housecall for live tweets.

Burris went to law school and knows that the Federal Government has no general power to legislate for the health and welfare of the people. The Constitution gives Congress and the executive branch specific enumerated powers. All other powers are reserved to the states. For the Democrats to dismiss the consitutional question about healthcare mandates is crazy. Sadly, I think they will use the power of the purse to achieve their objectives. The can make states do the dirty work by holding out big $$$ as incentives to comply with the Federal program. Or else this fits into the currently warped view that anything that substantially affects interstate commerce or uses the intrumentalities of interstate commerce can be regulated (even thought healthcare cannot currently be sold across state lines). I long for a return to the original intent.

I go to every Tea Party I can and don’t believe any of the press on TV, those pols know about and think about these protests. It is critical that we keep yelling at them via protest, email, fax, phone, anything! We know they are NOT patriots and we STILL have the power of the vote – be sure to use it wisely. One report said they can’t or haven’t confirmed that all the victims are military either.

Right now, it is safe to say few, if anyone, knows exactly what happened. Right now, they don’t even know if there was a 3rd shooter.

From another post: A great Ann Coulter synopsis of part 1 of the problem.

    1. Employer-provided insurance: employees think healthcare is basically free. So those not on an employer’s plan think they should get “free” care too.
    2. Trial lawyers and tort reform
    3. Fraud
    4. Government control: big giveaway programs, and the restrictions on interstate sale of insurance.

Provide more doctors, facilities and a free market, and all but the extremely poor and indigent could pay their own way. And those numbers could be managed by the system easily. Once again, government meddling has created a perverse system of regulations and “insurance” that is completely unworkable. As long as politicians and Marxist power brokers are in charge instead of analysts and healthcare professionals, we will never fix this.

MSNBC just released another update with the following:

A senior administration official told NBC News analyst Roger Cressey that the suspect who was in custody was an Army major with an Arabic-sounding name. The official said the shootings could have been a criminal matter rather than a terrorism-related attack and that there was no intelligence to suggest a plot against Fort Hood.

There was no word on a 2nd or 3rd shooter. Most reports have indicated there were “more than one” shooter.

43 casualties is a lot for two shooters. Of course, the vast majority of troops on the post were under arms and the shooters would have known that and used it to their advantage…

    Watching CNNLive now. http://www.cnn.com/video/flashLive/live.html?stream=stream1

Jonah’s right, we don’t want to get ahead of the facts. There’s the Fort Dix Six precedent, but there’s also Oklahoma City, where people guessed reasonably but guessed wrong.

Two observations are in order about news coverage, though. First, the question on everyone’s mind, the 800 pound gorilla in the middle of the room that we are supposed to ignore or be ostrasized from polite society is: Was the gunman (or gunmen) Muslim? Under the circumstances of the war against us by Islamist terrorists, it is bizarre that this perfectly natural question can’t be asked.

Second, for all the reluctance the press exhibits about asking the “M” question, how easily “post-traumatic stress syndrome” trips off the journalistic tongue. I’ve heard it again and again in the reporting — even after it was reported that there were two other people in custody. Now, we don’t know at the moment why the other two people are being held: they could be suspects, or they could just be thought potential witnesses who have insight about the shooter. But it’s at least possible (if not likely) that they are suspects. When was the last time you heard of a conspiracy to commit post-traumatic stress disorder?

Also as an aside what I have also liked about the numerous rallies I have gone to in the past is they are short an hour or so. They are hard hitting fast and to the point, peopl;e remain fired up. Perhaps those hippie rallies went on so long as they were in some drugged out stupor ;)

Tried to call both senators. Webb had a message encouraging me to call during business hours (which I can’t) and Warner let me leave a message. Awkward because I’m not used to this, but I have to start somewhere, and maybe the way it was obvious I don’t do this every week made an impact or something. I wish I’d said something about supporting Frank Wolf’s thirty days online thing.

Too bad my fellow Repubs waited until we are the precipice of bankruptcy caused by a lunatic socialist administration before proposing a fix to our health care system. Perhaps if we are ever in power again they will wake the f*** up, and deal with issues before Dems get their filthy hands on them.

Anyone know if the late Major Hasan was a Middle-Eastern American, a white convert to Wahhabism like al Qaeda member Adam Gadahn, a Black Muslim, etc?

Converts are usually the most radical, but could a Muslim convert make O-4?

Conversion to the modern day equivalent of the Molech cult, a vicious god who demanded the blood of children, would suggest mental illness.

He was an American citizen born and raised in America. Was always a Muslim and people who knew him say he was known to make comments in opposition to the US being in Iraq and Afghanistan. He was a psychiatrist at Walter Reed for 6 years before being sent to Fort Hood. He was about to be deployed to Afghanistan and was doing everything possible to try to get out of it.

Yep, letting the Muslims in and letting them stay in their “culture” was a GREAT idea…. letting the Mexicans in and providing every damn thing in Spanish for them was a GREAT idea….

Conservatives, are we going to clean house, or what?

    We did it to ourselves.

I agree, Chap. I’m glad he’s alive and it looks like he’ll be okay too. There is a lot of speculation and contractory information coming out. Before I judge the situation, I’ll wait for the real facts. I’m amazed at his shooting. 43 casualties with 2 handguns? Anyway, we’ll find out the real motives, rather than get all sorts of speculation, because the gunman is dead.

No speculation is needed to know there are a lot of dead and wounded people because of the acts of a Muslim adherent who has had issues with the Military.

Given everything else we know about radical Muslims since 9/11, it doesn’t take an FBI Profiler to KNOW his religious beliefs were integral to his thinking.

Heard ABC and CBS say “a large group opposed to healthcare reform” showed up at the US capitol building, rather than say that you were opposed to the government take over of 1/6th of the nation’s economy or that you didn’t agree with barry hussein’s plan to control our healthcare. Quite the f-ed up spin I’d say.
