Battling Pelosicare; Update: Thousands descend on D.C., “You work for us!”

Scroll for updates…Fox News is livestreaming the Capitol protest here

Hey, Nancy, look out the window. You can see health care protesters from your House.

Protest signs at the Capitol

House Republicans are holding a 12-hour live online telecast today starting at 1pm Eastern to expose the perils and pitfalls of Pelosicare — and to spotlight the GOP alternative.

You can tune in here. Spread the word.

***

Reminder: Rep. Michele Bachmann, Mark Levin, and Jon Voight will join other House Republicans and grass-roots activists from across the country on the Capitol steps at noon today to protest the Democrats’ government health care takeover plans. Be there in spirit for Operation Housecall by melting the phones today.

***

The CBO has scored the GOP health care reform alternative:

House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement after the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) confirmed in a letter tonight that the Republican health care plan will lower health care premiums by up to 10 percent and reduce the deficit by $68 billion over 10 years without imposing tax increases on families and small businesses:

“When it comes to reforming health care, controlling skyrocketing costs is the American peoples’ top priority. Now CBO has confirmed that the Republican plan will lower health care costs for American families, and that’s good news for everyone struggling in today’s economy. The choice now could not be clearer: Speaker Pelosi’s plan raises costs. Our plan lowers them.

“Not only does the GOP plan lower health care costs, but it also increases access to quality care – including for those with pre-existing conditions – at a price our country can afford. The cost of the Speaker’s bill, now at $1.3 trillion and counting, is a debt that will be paid for by our kids and our grandkids. The American people deserve a better solution, and Republicans’ smart, fiscally-responsible plans give them exactly what they want.”

NOTE: In a letter delivered tonight, CBO estimated that the GOP health care plan would reduce average private health insurance premiums per enrollee in the United States relative to what they would be under current law. Specifically:

• For the small group market (generally businesses with 2 to 50 employees), the GOP plan would reduce premiums in 2016 for example by up to 10 percent.
• For the individual market, the GOP plan would reduce premiums in 2016 by up to eight percent.
• For the large group market, the GOP plan would reduce premiums in 2016 by up to three percent.

Now is the time to disabuse Nancy Pelosi of the delusional notion that she “won” election night.

***

Crikey:

When asked by CNSNews.com what specific part of the Constitution authorizes Congress to mandate that individuals must purchase health insurance, Sen. Roland Burris (D-Ill.) pointed to the part of the Constitution that he says authorizes the federal government “to provide for the health, welfare and the defense of the country.” In fact, the word “health” appears nowhere in the Constitution.

Update 11:30am Eastern. Politico reports that thousands have descended on the Capitol. There have been a few arrests… of Code Pinkos who protested at Joe Lieberman’s office.

Capitol Police arrested nine protesters Thursday morning in the Hart Senate office building as thousands of Tea Party activists descended on the Capitol building to protest the trillion dollar health care bill and government spending.

The gathering was organized by local Tea Party groups around the country, who are arriving in Washington this morning by the busload. Conservative leaders in Congress, led by Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), have taken to the airwaves to encourage the activists to show up on the Capitol steps and demand meetings with members of Congress. The crowd is expected to grow into the thousands by noon, when Bachmann has promised to lead some protesters to a press conference inside the Capitol to express their opposition to the health care bill in person to members of Congress.

Speaking on conservative talker Laura Ingraham’s radio show this morning, Bachmann encouraged people listening to show up on the West Front steps, but she said they should show up with “cameras” instead of “pitchforks.”

A Capitol Police spokeswoman confirmed to POLITICO that nine activists were arrested in the Hart building, and they are being processed at police headquarters. All the buildings in the Capitol complex remain open for now.

The protesters, who are occupying the patch of grass only a few yards from where Barack Obama took the oath of office on Jan. 20, are chanting “you work for us!” Many are holding signs that echo their distrust of Obama and their belief that he is pursuing socialist policies.

Attendees report that crowd is shouting “Kill the bill!” and calling out Pelosi. Follow #housecall for live tweets.

Ok here is a link to the CBO scoring.

It looks like the gross cost over 10 years is $61 billion over 10 years with the net cosst being $8 billion:

That estimate reflects a projected net cost of $8 billion over 10 years for the
provisions directly related to insurance coverage; that net cost reflects a gross cost
of $61 billion that is partly offset by about $52 billion in additional revenues
associated with the coverage provisions. Over the same period, the other provisions
of the amendment would reduce direct spending by $49 billion and increase tax
    revenues by $27 billion.

Much better than what has been proposed by Pelosi and Co.

I know that there is dispute about the number of actual uninsured but you can’t accept the CBO’s numbers in one instance and reject them in another.

The CBO estimates by 2019 55 million uninsured. From this figure it determines 3 million less by this plan.

I’m not familiar with that estimate. But it no doubt’s includes people here illegally and people who choose not to buy health insurance.

I know of the 46 million figure democrats claim. But that number is known to include approx 15 million illegals. Before I run down the remaining composition, I should look up the figures but I recall the number of uninsured citizens who actually want health insurance to be as high as 10 million but as low as 5 million.

So knocking off 3 million of those while not adding taxes would be quite an accomplishment.

Tell them they better think twice about how they are voting on socialist health care, cap and trade, and other issues if they still want a job when they run again.

The election results in Virginia show that the Democrat strategy during the Bush years of running candidates PRETENDING to be center-right while campaigning to get Democrat numbers up in Congress and the Senate from red states. . . and then having them vote as far Left socialists as if they have a mandate to do so. . . is OVER.

It was a concerted strategy especially in the South and the Rocky Mountains to lower Republican numbers in Congress during the Bush years. They ran Dems who were virtually indistinguishable from the Republicans. Then with the help of the media, they act like they have a huge mandate to make us into a socialist country.

That strategy has really backfired. What Virginia shows is that the voters have woken up. It was just a matter of time, and Obama, Pelosi, and Reid all knew this. That is why they wanted to get health care and cap and trade passed as fast as possible.

Hopefully, it won’t pass either the House or the Senate now.

Sadly all too many voters are easily tricked everywhere. Before Senator Webb was Senator I thought he was a good man. Then he opened his mouth and it is hard to believe how far Left he went/was besides being one rude, belligerent jerk. Perhaps he is John McCains love child. But Senators pay is $174K a year and they pay about $500 for the most gold plated insurance plan imaginable. If Botox treatments are included I do not know.

But I do know I do not trust them to walk my dogs much less decide my health decisions. But I shell keep my one good eye out for the Redeye’s Dock Bar hat. If there is more than one wave.

Yes, that’s one possibility. Which would mean the addt’l insured under this plan could be about 1 million give or take 250K using my very very rough math and whatever assumptions the CBO is using to come up with these numbers.

But I see problems with their uninsured number versus the number they are using for illegals that are uninsured.

The latter being by their estimate 2% of the non-elderly population.

If the non-elderly pop is 262 million, then the CBO assumption for illegals is about 5 million. Low by at least 200%.

Yet they use 40 million as their uninsured figure. It just doesn’t foot with what should be accepted figures.

As for the 3 million addt’l insured by this plan, we’d have to dig deeper. but it seems to me that the CBO would not be basing that number on a percentage of presently uninsured people. But rather the funds available to use for insurance payments and what a policy is estimated to cost.

But I do understand your point, and it has merit. But do you follow where I’m coming from chap?

Yes, it’s also what happens in many districts in NJ. I can think of a few congressman who ran as centrists but vote liberal 99% of the time. And no one calls them out on it. This joy will not be a momentary display, like that of your followers, but it will go deep into their hearts. And for the rest of their lives, whenever they speak of this day they will rejoice!”

Pelosi replied, “I seriously doubt that with one little wave of your hand you can do that. Show me.”

    So the Pope slapped her.

AReading that quote, at 1st I thought that the DisHon. Burris simply has a thinking disability. Pondering more deeply, I realized that this statement was aimed at the huge mass of “citizens” uninformed of the contents of our Founding Documents.

If we inform The People, most will stand with Freedom. THIS is why the Progressives have eaten up the mechanics of education our youth. Only an educated and informed Citizenry can have (and BTW, deserves) Freedom.

This method is spread out in most of the books of their ideology, no collusion or conspiracy necessary.

Another case where they’ve told us what they’re going to do, we simply did listen.

Seeing the faces of all the RINOs in the background was also uninspiring.

My conclusion, not that it matters, is that this gathering, which I thought had been hastily organized by conservative Rep. Michelle Bachmann, was either (a) co-opted by the RINO leadership (for yet one more political stunt,) or (b) was planned by the RINO leadership all along. Neither option makes me trust the party any more. To the contrary.

Michelle Bachmann didn’t look too happy…

It reminds me of a joke about politicians; A politician looks out of his office window, and notices a mass of people marching in a protest parade. He turns to a reporter and says, “Those are my people. I must go out and lead them!”

    Spot on.

And this is just a start. There are other basic proposals that could be added that would even further truly reduce the cost of medical care for all needing it without decreasing the quality.

But I also want to underscore my opposition to the premise–who said reducing the number of uninsured was ultimately the responsibility of the federal government (or any government for that matter)? As long as conservatives yield that premise out-of-the-gate, the argument will always prevail, “But there’s uninsured still!!” and then follows 20/20 episodes showing how the dastardly conservatives forced Granny out on the ice floe to die.

It’s the conservative position that, by removing obstacles that prevent medical care being moved by market forces, we can bring the overall availability UP. That said, there’s nothing to do for those who simply will not pay for it. I confess–back in the day, I was one such. I figured it wasn’t worth the expenditure and if I got hurt, the county would pick up the bill if it was really catastrophic. There’s nothing that can be done for those with that mindset (nothing fair to all taxpayers, anyways) and that holds true for illegals as well.

I just got back from the rally. Some thoughts.

Crowd size? I know I have seen a map giving crowd estimates (i.e., how many people can fit in each particular section of the Mall and Capitol area, but I can’t find it. Anyway, the rally was on the west side of the Capitol. The area stretching from the steps, down to 1st street was probably about 1/4 densely packed. Best guess? 30-40 thousand. I really have no idea though.

The setup of the stage was atrocious. I arrived 1 hour and 45 minutes early and because of the set up I literally got 2 mere glances at Voigt. Maybe one of Michele. It was almost like they were TRYING to exclude as many people as possible from seeing the speakers. The could have put the podium in the middle of the steps, and heck maybe even elevated on the steps so that more than the first three rows could see anything. What they CHOSE to do was stich the podium in the far right corner (again, facing the Capitol), which area was mostly cordoned off for VIPs and the Press. Which brings me to my next point…

The program was terrible. Obviously everyone there wanted to hear Michele, Levin and Voigt. They also had Cliff from Cheers. After that it was an endless litany of no name representatives giving repetitive 3-5 minute speeches. Seriously there must have been at least 30, each more boring than the last. Okay, people got excited about Joe Wilson. Other than that, even the people that actually LIKED theses Reps, were getting annoyed and tired. This went on for about 2 hours. You had a lot of people, including a good many older people in the crowd that were packed in, unable to move or sit down for over 3 and a half hours. All of this so that every silly little representative under the sun could make sure he got his 3 minutes of preening and screaming for the cameras. The emcee even made the joke (after 1 hour 45 minutes) that DC is the city where everything has been said but not everyone has said it.

Lots of great posters. My favorite was “Obama takes his oders from the Rothschilds.” No I did not misspell his sign.

If Pelosi’s Marxist Medicine Bill, with clear language demanding every American pay at least $12 per year to help murder unborn babies is defeated, it is because of the faux moderates, the House Blue Dogs, who have to hide their affiliation to communism because they represent districts that don’t have a hard core Marxist majority.

The Senate is trickier, 2/3rds have 4 or more years before facing the voters, and an ex-Senator has a better chance of landing a cushie J Street lobbying job after the 1 year no-lobbying period, and probably at higher pay.
