President who sealed college transcripts blabs about daughter’s test scores

By Michelle Malkin  •  November 5, 2009 09:44 AM

Compare and contrast:

September 2008…

Senator Obama’s life story, from his humble roots, to his rise to Harvard Law School, to his passion as a community organizer in Chicago, has been at the center of his presidential campaign. But one chapter of the tale remains a blank — his education at Columbia College, a place he rarely speaks about and where few people seem to remember him.

Contributing to the mystery is the fact that nobody knows just how well Mr. Obama, unlike Senator McCain and most other major candidates for the past two elections, performed as a student.

The Obama campaign has refused to release his college transcript, despite an academic career that led him to Harvard Law School and, later, to a lecturing position at the University of Chicago. The shroud surrounding his experience at Columbia contrasts with that of other major party nominees since 2000, all whom have eventually released information about their college performance or seen it leaked to the public.

Today

Obama Uses Malia’s Test Scores as a Teaching Example

President Obama marked the first anniversary of his election on Wednesday by calling on states to toughen their education standards – and wound up calling on parents to toughen theirs, too, as he confessed that his 11-year-old daughter, Malia, recently got a 73 on her science test.

(Note to parents: In Malia’s defense, the story has a happy ending: she studied hard and came home on Tuesday with a grade of 95.)

… Then, to a chorus of oooohs from the crowd, he said that Malia, a sixth-grader at Sidwell Friends School in Washington, had come home with a 73 on her science test not long ago. He recounted how, a few years ago, she had come home with a grade in the 80s, believing that she had ‘’done pretty well.’’ He and his wife corrected her, telling her that their goal was “90 percent and up.’’

“So here’s the interesting thing: she started internalizing that,’’ the president said, adding that when she came home with a 73 on the science test ‘’she was depressed.’’ He asked her what happened, and she said the study guide didn’t match up with the test. So she vowed to study harder.

“So she came home yesterday, she got a 95,’’ Mr. Obama said. “But here’ the point: She said, ‘You know , I just like having knowledge.’’

Obama Rule #1: Leave their kids out of the public square…except when the White House needs them to sell domestic policy.

Obama Rule #2: Keep academic details private…except when the White House needs them to sell domestic policy.

They’re just his grades. If he got a few C’s … so what? Clearly these records were sufficient to propel him to Harvard Law School, so they must be outstanding, right?

Hmmm… what if his academic record at Columbia was poor…. yet he got into Harvard? Nah… couldn’t be…. Harvard couldn’t be bought off… could it?

As seems to be the case often…. Obama’s past is obscured by his people. They manage to hide the truth about him.

Or they could get an awesome job that pays oodles, scads, tons, truckloads of cash (see Al Gore and his ilk) and find themselves targeted for greed (see everybody except Al Gore and his ilk). Hmm. That’s because the books are so poorly written.

When I was in high school in the 70’s, we would have to answer the questions at the end of a chapter. If you read the chapter, you had no problem answering the questions. That’s not true anymore. When my daughter was in high school a few years ago, the questions at the end of the chapter never matched what you had just read, so the teacher’s always had worksheets instead.

HaHa. My son had a teacher in HS who used grades as a way to illustrate socialism. He told them that their grades did not belong to them, they belonged to the class. All the grades would be collected and averaged out so that each student received the same grade no matter how hard they studied or their ability to grasp the material.

So, for example, he told them that my son, a straight A student would have to share his grade with a D student so that they both could get a C.

Boy, did that ever work! But, don’t tell anyone about this teacher, I wouldn’t want to get him into trouble.

As far as the Bush girls go, what do you mean where was I? I don’t think it was right either. Where were you? I’m not some kind of omnipotent being that can be everywhere all the time. Don’t try to play the hypocrisy card on me just because you didn’t know where I was. I’m very clear on how I feel about the privacy of family. Hope-a-Dope’s academic transcripts, as well as his SAT and LSAT scores, remain state secrets for two reasons:

    1. His entry exam scores would clearly reveal that something other than academic excellence got him into Columbia and Harvard Law; and

    2. His choice of classes and his grades would be glaringly inconsistent with lefty “common knowledge” of his supposed “brilliance.”

The left routinely fools itself into believing that its elite possesses a monopoly on intelligence. Recall John “war hero” Kerry’s pathetic progression as this myth unraveled for him in 2004: Exclaiming in frustration “I can’t believe I’m losing to this idiot!” while simultaneously whining “He tricked me!” when trying to justify his on/off support for the Iraq War, and finally being humiliated when his Yale GPA turned out to be lower than Bush’s.

It’s a safe bet that the blackout on Hope-a-Dope’s Columbia days is because he doesn’t want anyone to find out about what he wasn’t doing there (studying) and what he was doing there (learning to hate America and flirting with Marxian crap like “social justice” while snorting Cocaine and creating a whole new atmosphere of pot smoke in his dorm room).

I can say these things with confidence because in 20 years of exposure to the system of public education from first grade to law school I’ve seen Hope-a-Dope’s type on more than one occasion: the guy who learns early on that being loquacious, demonstrating a grasp of English based on phonics instead of “ebonics” and being able to write using paragraph structure allows him to manipulate the system while being a token of it.

In a perverse way, Hope-a-Dope (and his wife, not coincidentally) are examples of how racism in America has transformed: far from being denied deserved opportunities because of his skin color, he has risen from one undeserved accolade and honor to another based on nothing but his skin color.

It’s an “Inconvenient Truth,” as algore would say — which is why he and his handlers in the donkey media and the Chicago machine are so grimly determined to make sure it never sees the light of day.

Even if that was the reason, he still fails at reading comprehension. My comment was clear and concise. I defended a right to privacy and ridiculed the public’s obsession with a political candidate’s grades.

Last time I checked, those ideas were not somehow tied to President Obama or socialism.

Looking for evidence of Obama’s past, Fox News contacted 400 Columbia University students from the period when Obama claims to have been there, but none remembered him.

Wayne Allyn Root was, like Obama, a political science major at Columbia who also graduated in 1983. In 2008, Root says of Obama, “I don’t know a single person at Columbia that knew him, and they all know me.

I don’t have a classmate who ever knew Barack Obama at Columbia. Ever! Nobody recalls him. I’m not exaggerating, I’m not kidding.” Root adds that he was also, like Obama, “Class of ‘83 political science, pre-law” and says, “You don’t get more exact or closer than that. Never met him in my life, don’t know anyone who ever met him.

At the class reunion, our 20th reunion five years ago, who was asked to be the speaker of the class? Me.

No one ever heard of Barack! And five years ago, nobody even knew who he was. The guy who writes the class notes, who’s kind of the, as we say in New York, the macha who knows everybody, has yet to find a person, a human who ever met him. Is that not strange? …

    More at the linked story.

Curiouser and curiouser. And this stealth academic career got him into HAAAVAAAHHD??

I have no problem with brilliant kids with good grades from poor families getting scholarships to good schools. A minority individual with poor grades should not get anything. Any one who truly wants a college education will figure out how to get one. This country was built on hard work and creative thinking not hand outs and government programs.

Does something analogous apply to attorneys when they apply for a law license?
If so, did Columbia reply to the Illinois law licensing entity that B. Hussein Obama indeed had attended Columbia?
And if Columbia in fact confirmed his attendance, how can that be reconciled with the recollections of the 400 Columbia alumni discussed in fred5676’s post above?

It is certainly pertinent, just as it is pertinent to know that of the few science courses Al Gore took, he got C’s and D’s, meaning that his opinions about scientific matters are based in politics, not science.
