With a handgun you need disciplined aim, especially with the recoil you would get with heavy duty armor piercing rounds. He was ready for this, I think he probably had it planned at least in his head before he got his deployment orders. Scumbag.

I heard this morning the Base commander made a point of saying “many” of the wounded were from ricochets, and in a crowded space I could imagine a single slug or its fragments striking more than one person. Havent heard the caliber or ammo type, but I would guess by the number of innocents killed it was no .22. A 9mm or even a .380 could easily pass through one and strike another. All speculation at this point of course.

The magazine capacity for the FN 5.7 is 20 rounds. I also read that he reloaded at least once.

The FN 5.7x28mm handgun has about as much recoil as a .22 Magnum, and AP rounds are not available for purchase in gun stores, at gun shows, through the mail, or over the internet. I agree that it was planned well in advance.

JCT Confirms Failure to Comply with Democrats’ Mandate Can Lead to 5 Years in Jail
    Friday, November 06, 2009

Today, Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee Dave Camp (R-MI) released a letter from the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) confirming that the failure to comply with the individual mandate to buy health insurance contained in the Pelosi health care bill (H.R. 3962, as amended) could land people in jail. The JCT letter makes clear that Americans who do not maintain “acceptable health insurance coverage” and who choose not to pay the bill’s new individual mandate tax (generally 2.5% of income), are subject to numerous civil and criminal penalties, including criminal fines of up to $250,000 and imprisonment of up to five years.

In response to the JCT letter, Camp said: “This is the ultimate example of the Democrats’ command-and-control style of governing – buy what we tell you or go to jail. It is outrageous and it should be stopped immediately.”

Key excerpts from the JCT letter appear below:

“H.R. 3962 provides that an individual (or a husband and wife in the case of a joint return) who does not, at any time during the taxable year, maintain acceptable health insurance coverage for himself or herself and each of his or her qualifying children is subject to an additional tax.” [page 1]

    - – - – - – - – - -

“If the government determines that the taxpayer’s unpaid tax liability results from willful behavior, the following penalties could apply…” [page 2]

    - – - – - – - – - -

    “Criminal penalties

Prosecution is authorized under the Code for a variety of offenses. Depending on the level of the noncompliance, the following penalties could apply to an individual:

    • Section 7203 – misdemeanor willful failure to pay is punishable by a fine of up to $25,000 and/or imprisonment of up to one year.

    • Section 7201 – felony willful evasion is punishable by a fine of up to $250,000 and/or imprisonment of up to five years.” [page 3]

When confronted with this same issue during its consideration of a similar individual mandate tax, the Senate Finance Committee worked on a bipartisan basis to include language in its bill that shielded Americans from civil and criminal penalties. The Pelosi bill, however, contains no similar language protecting American citizens from civil and criminal tax penalties that could include a $250,000 fine and five years in jail.

“The Senate Finance Committee had the good sense to eliminate the extreme penalty of incarceration. Speaker Pelosi’s decision to leave in the jail time provision is a threat to every family who cannot afford the $15,000 premium her plan creates. Fortunately, Republicans have an alternative that will lower health insurance costs without raising taxes or cutting Medicare,” said Camp.

According to the Congressional Budget Office the lowest cost family non-group plan under the Speaker’s bill would cost $15,000 in 2016.

Agreed, although I don’t beleive under the circumstances of general security at any US military installation that he would have needed armor-piercing handgun rounds to do this kind of damage to all victims.

The handgun is most difficult of the three gun types (handgun, rifle, Shotgun, in that order) to master effectively. He knew what he wanted to do, developed the expertise and stealthiness to execute his plan, and then went for it; I think it would be instructive to find out where he went after hours…I’d bet he got additional instruction in handgun employment than what is typically offered to someone in his capacity.

I’d look for Al-Qaeda links if it was me investigating this.

Essentially, the Five-seveN® represents a quantum leap forward in the handgun’s suitablity for close engagements by delivering the type of performance that was previously confined to rifles or carbines.

Also considering it is delayed blowback like most semi-auto handguns, it probably kicks somewhat like a magnum-caliber handgun-not something that would not be standard issue to most women in police or the armed forces in all likelyhood.

I know it’s wikipedia, but the information is correct.

    SS190 duty
The SS190 FMJ, a refinement of the SS90, was introduced in 1994. It offered superior performance over the prototype projectile as well as slightly reduced length. The latter change allowed it to be used more conveniently in the Five-Seven pistol also being developed at that time.[3] The SS190 propels a 31 grain bullet at 2350 ft/s from the P90′s barrel. It is composed of a steel penetrator and an aluminum core. It is classified as armor piercing (AP) ammunition by the ATF[10] and its sale is restricted to law enforcement and military customers.[6]

Note that the velocity provided is from the P90 which has a barrell about twice as long as the FN Five-seveN’s. The P90 is a NFA firearm due to the short barrel (for a long gun) and select-fire capability. Since the barrel on the pistol is shorter, penetration with any projectile will be less.

I’ve already noted that AP rounds are not available to the general public in this caliber.

Only if the magnum-caliber handgun is a .22 Magnum. BTW, the M1911A1 in .45 ACP and the M9 in 9x19mm kick less that the .357 Magnum revolver that was the standard for police as late as the 1970′s. The FN Five-seveN isn’t even in the .38 Special class for recoil.

Please don’t try to make the pistol used into some sort of cannon. It isn’t.

Chaps, we are not talking about spoilage in a good way.

In extreme poverty and deprivation, we are talking about peoples who have been close to starvation and death.
East Indians don’t mind that. They are comfortable with the transitory aspect of life, the impermanence of it.

Message I just sent to Colorado District 1 House Rep Diana DeGette, regarding Pelosi’s end-run vote on Obama-Care on Saturday –

    Your Honorable Ms. DeGette,

As an American Citizen and a lifetime tax payer, recently laid off from my job due to the weak economy, I’d like to weigh in on the upcoming vote on healthcare.

The reason I’m out of work now is because of government overregulation and mismanagement of housing, finance, business, and virtually every other aspect of our lives.

The more Government steps in, the worse things become. I frankly can’t imagine why Barney Frank isn’t under indictment for the Fannie Mae debacle, which effictively imploded the housing market, and started this mess. Another feather in the cap of Government regulation.

Then we have big Dick Murtha, playing fast and loose with taxpayer money, corrupt connections, and the Constitution.

I could go on and on. However I expect that, as the Washingtion insider that you are, this isn’t news.

Honestly, even though I’m looking for work, I don’t need any more government “help” or interference in my life with regard to healthcare or cap and trade.

Government can’t effectively manage Cash for Clunkers, Stimulus, Flu Shots, or anything else for that matter. The myth that we’ve “created or saved” jobs, when unemployment continues to rise, is a bald face lie. The only jobs created are government jobs, or short term construction and infrastructure projects.

The People no longer trust their government, for good reason.

During an 8% unemployment trend, we were told that, unless we immediately passed a Stimulus spending bill, we’ll see 10%. Guess what? Bill passes, we’re still screwed – it’s a 10!

If you actually want to do something good for the economy, and We The People, you’ll vote this healthcare bill, and cap and trade for that matter, to it’s death.

Start building your credibility by working on the issues that Americans actually care about: the economy, jobs, lower taxes, etc.

If you don’t, you obviously represent your own self interest, and not the will of the people who you represent.

There’s a reason that Congress has it’s lowest approval rating in over a decade. That alone should make you lay awake at night, like millions of Americans, who are worried about losing their jobs.

If you vote against the will of the people on this issue…

I’d recommend Valerian root and Melatonin to help you sleep at night, while you’re looking for other employment.

    Best to you.

Last week he asked me if I had any experience with buying, owning and learning to shoot handguns. Which I don’t other than they cost more than I can afford. I asked why. He said his wife wants to get a concealed weapons permit and start packing.

The home owner failed to inform potential invaders so the home owner is at fault and responsible for damages and medical cost.

I don’t know if it is actually effective but I don’t think it is an entirely stupid idea.

    Bad idea.

    1. If you ever have to use your firearm in self-defense, the prosecutor may use the signs to claim that you were wanting to shoot someone.

    2. It will tell criminals that if they break into the house whilst you are gone or asleep that there is a good chance they will score some guns.

    3. Best bet – get a good alarm system, a noisy (if not a gretbigo people-eatin’) dog, and, after firearms training, suitable firearms. Then, don’t tell casual acquaintances or friends who don’t like them about the guns.
