The Beltway snipers and the Fort Hood killer: Peas in a jihad-inspired pod; Update: Hasan is awake, talking
John Allen Muhammad is scheduled to be executed tomorrow for the Beltway-area sniper spree that left 10 innocent people dead in 2002.
Several family members of the victims will attend.
At the time of the murderous rampage that stretched over three, horror-filled weeks, I lived in Montgomery County, Maryland, where Muhammad and his young partner in crime, Lee Malvo, wreaked bloody havoc. I covered two main aspects of the story that were underplayed by the MSM–Lee Malvo’s illegal alien catch-and-release story and Nation of Islam convert Muhammad and Malvo’s Muslim hate-mongering. Snide MSM’ers and the CAIR propagandists attacked those of who called these thugs what they are: terrorists.
The parallels with the Fort Hood case — jihad-inspired killers, media whitewash — are striking. They’re the parallels you can’t talk about without being labeled a bigot, racist, or “extremist.”
A reminder of what Muhammad and Malvo plotted:
Malvo testified that Muhammad, driven by hatred of America because of its “slavery, hypocrisy and foreign policy” and his belief that “the white man is the devil”, planned to kill six whites a day for 30 days.
Malvo alleged that Muhammad had said: “We are going to go to the Washington DC area and we are going to terrorise these people.”
They then intended to move to Baltimore for stage two of their campaign, to shoot a policeman and then blow up explosives at his funeral.
More explosives would target the ambulances that would then rush to the funeral. Another plan to kill three busloads of schoolchildren was thwarted because the pair were arrested when Malvo fell asleep while keeping watch at a Maryland petrol station.
Muhammad’s ultimate plan, Malvo testified, was to indoctrinate 140 young homeless men at a Canada compound who would “shut things down” in cities across America, unless they received £5 million.
And what kind of indoctrination would Muhammad and Malvo’s army have received to prepare them for their terrorist assaults on American cities? The jailhouse drawings of Malvo are worth a thousands words. I’ve dug them up again from the Wayback Machine to refresh your memories:

ABC News reports: Intelligence officials were aware of Fort Hood killer’s attempts to contact al Qaeda.

The NEFA Foundation has obtained a statement issued by Anwar al Awlaki, an Al-Qaida-linked U.S. citizen, titled “Nidal Hassan Did the Right Thing” in which al Awlaki profusely praised the Fort Hood shooter: “Nidal Hassan is a hero. He is a man of conscience who could not bear living the contradiction of being a Muslim and serving in an army that is fighting against his own people…The US is leading the war against terrorism which in reality is a war against Islam. Its army is directly invading two Muslim countries and indirectly occupying the rest through its stooges.” Al Awlaki continued, “Nidal opened fire on soldiers who were on their way to be deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. How can there be any dispute about the virtue of what he has done? In fact the only way a Muslim could Islamically justify serving as a soldier in the US army is if his intention is to follow the footsteps of men like Nidal.” Further, “The heroic act of brother Nidal also shows the dilemma of the Muslim American community. Increasingly they are being cornered into taking stances that would either make them betray Islam or betray their nation. Many amongst them are choosing the former. The Muslim organizations in America came out in a pitiful chorus condemning Nidal’s operation.”
NYPost on Hasan’s mosque of evil:
Army massacre fiend Nidal Malik Hasan attended a Virginia mosque at the same time as two of the 9/11 hijackers — and the FBI is now investigating whether there is a connection between the men, an official confirmed yesterday.
Maj. Hasan — the Army psychiatrist accused of fatally shooting 13 people and wounding 29 others at Fort Hood in Texas on Thursday — had held his mother’s funeral at the Dar al Hijrah Islamic Center in Falls Church, Va., in May 2001.
The mosque’s imam at the time was the ultraradical Anwar Aulaqi, thought to have ties to Osama bin Laden.
After 9/11, the controversial imam admitted to the FBI that he had met with Nawaf al-Hazmi, one of the hijackers who crashed a jet into the Pentagon.
Al-Hazmi and another hijacker, Hani Hanjour, had attended the imam’s mosque in early April 2001 — the same time Hasan’s family worshipped there.
The Falls Church mosque is one of the largest on the East Coast, and thousands attend prayers and services there.
The mosque’s outreach director, Imam Abdul-Malik, said it’s a mistake for people to tie regular attendance at a mosque to extremism.
Many Muslims pray at the mosque several times a day, he said. “It’s part of family life. It’s like going out for ice cream after dinner,” he added.
The possible association among Hasan, the hijackers and the radical imam only fueled fears that the Fort Hood murders were more than just the work of one disturbed person.
Hasan was scheduled to be deployed soon to Afghanistan, and that might have fueled his deadly rage, officials said.
But clearly, the massacre might have been an act of terrorism, Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) said yesterday.
“I want to say very quickly we don’t know enough to say now, but there are very, very strong warning signs here that Dr. Hasan had become an Islamist extremist and, therefore, that this was a terrorist act,” Lieberman told “Fox News Sunday.”
Either way, the Army should have booted the deeply disturbed Hasan the moment he showed any signs of Islamic extremism, said Lieberman, who heads the Senate’s Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.
Hasan’s classmates at the Uniformed Services University, the military college where he recently took master’s courses, said they repeatedly griped to higher-ups about his constant anti-American rants.
One said he warned superiors that the raging Hasan was a “ticking time bomb” after he made a presentation defending Islamic suicide bombers.
Another classmate said he complained to five officers and two civilian faculty members.
He wrote in a document sent to Pentagon officials that fear in the military of being seen as politically incorrect prevented an “intellectually honest discussion of Islamic ideology” in the ranks.
Lieberman said, “If Hasan was showing signs, saying to people that he had become an Islamist extremist, the US Army has to have zero tolerance. He should have been gone.”

Fort Hood terrorist Nidal Hassan is awake and talking.
U.S. Army hospital spokesman says the man suspected in a deadly shooting spree at Fort Hood, Texas, is conscious and able to talk.
Dewey Mitchell, a spokesman at Brooke Army Medical Center, says Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan remains in stable condition. Mitchell says Hasan has been awake and able to talk since he was taken off a ventilator Saturday.
Hasan is at Brooke Medical Center in San Antonio, about 150 miles southwest of Fort Hood.
Wonder if he asked for a Koran yet.

I live in Richmond, VA and if people refuse to call John Allen Muhammad a terrorist, they have no idea what we were going through here and in the DC area. Friends and I were driving out into the surrounding rural areas to get gas since most of the shooting were near interstates. Getting out of my truck in any parking lot, I’d quickly look around to see if anything looked suspicious. If it wasn’t necessary, I wouldn’t go out. There was a real fear here… and I would without a doubt call it terrorism.
Napolitano will be issuing a new euphemism shortly. That will woman will not rest until every problem in the world has been solved with new euphemisms.

A local radio talk show host, Rick Roberts, today advocated isolating every Muslim in the military until they can be vetted… I think it sounds like a good idea. Time to stop worrying about pissing people off and take care of business.

So instead of Big Sister asking for a thorough review of all similar cases, she’s asking for DHS to expend resources to prevent backlash.
Obviously, there’s evidence to suggest that cases like Hasan’s lead to violence, but there’s no evidence to suggest that violence by Hasan leads to backlash.
The NY Times blamed the events in Fort Hood on “post traumatic stress disorder” and said we should not jump to conclusions. The NY Times even editorialized that once again Muslims are the victims of vile sterotypes and we must on guard not to blame Muslims. All this from a newspaper led by Arhur Hayes Sulzberger who ordered the NYTimes to spike news about the holocaust. This is the same newspaper that in the last two months has featured opeds from Muamar Qadafi and his son, from the Saudi foreign minister, from Jimmy Carter and from the quisling Richard Goldstone. Under the leadership of the latest batch of Sulzbergers, the NYTimes has teetered on the brink of bankruptcy as the Sulzbergers turn the once profitable newspaper into the Lehman Brothers of newspapers, a big mountain of debt. I expect the Times to opine that Sirhan Sirhan only acted out of frustration with the settlements.
I wonder how come Obama didn’t come out immediately and accuse Fort Hood Police Sgt. Kimberly Munley of “acting stupidly”?

And no, I don’t think college administrators have changed any since, except likely for the worse.

John Allen Muhammad, as a jihadist, probably wants to be executed rather than spend the rest of his life in jail.
I’d prefer to see him spend the rest of his life in solitary confinement (so that he can’t try to convert other prisoners), and deny him his expectation of “paradise”, and deny other jihadists the opportunity to look at him as a “martyr”.
Islam is incompatible with Western-style Democracy. Period.
And, yes, Mr. President, the United States IS a Christian nation.
The only good jihadi is a dead jihadi. The only jihadi better than a dead one is one that tells you where to find his mates.

John Muhammad was inspired by the Zebra murders in the 1970s, where members of the Nation of Islam murdered whites and kept score. No one knows for sure exactly how many people were murdered because the killings took place in prisons as well as on the street and they were pretty widespread. The best known spree was in the Bay Area in 1973-1974. Even back then the media was in coverup mode, fearing a race war. I didn’t even know about these murders until somebody told me about them in the late ’90s!
In the end, Muhammad and Malvo just went after anybody they could shoot, given that some of their victims were black. The victims weren’t Muslim, so they were fair pickings.
I lived in Northern Virginia at the time the shootings were happening. One of the murders took place at Home Depot I’ve shopped at. I was always looking over my shoulder and when I got gas, I looked for a pump that was away from the road and stayed in the car while it was gasing up. Friends sent me e-mails to be careful. Since two of the shootings were in front of Michaels stores, I stayed away from my local Michaels until the terrorists were caught. All of the local Halloween/fall festival parades were cancelled. It was an odd, scary time.
