Happy 234th Birthday, Marines!

Today is the 234th anniversary of the founding of the U.S. Marine Corps.
Here is the Commandant’s Message celebrating the proud history of the Marines:
Hoorah!
Project Valour IT’s annual fundraiser for wounded warriors continues. I’m on Team Marines and we are nearing our $35,000 goal, but we need help getting over the top. It’s the perfect day to chip in.
Valour IT provides adaptive technology to help severely wounded vets recover faster, establish a support system, and regain their independence. Since the program began, every single dollar raised by Valour IT has been used to provide:
· 4,100+ voice activated laptops
· over 30 Wii systems
· and nearly 100 handheld GPS devices to wounded vets at:
Balboa Naval Hospital
Naval Hospital, Camp Pendleton
Brooke Army Medical Center
Robert E. Bush Naval Hospital
Madigan RMC
Walter Reed AMC
National Naval MC (Bethesda)
and VA centers nationwide.
Freedom is not free. Please support the men and women in uniform who support America:

yeah, happy birthday.
Happy Birthday, Leathernecks!
My husband’s a former Marine, my teenage son’s a future Marine, and even my “web-dad” is a former Marine.
Semper Fi-Do or Die!
OOH-RAH!!
Happy Birthday Marines! Make your wish for a new Commander in Chief, then blow out the candles.
***
The U.S. Marines are the worlds best military force–bar none. I know and worked with many ex Marines and with some younger ones when I was on active duty. I am always impressed with their knowledge, skill, and patriotism.
***
Hand Salute to the Marines from this old U.S. Army draftee. Semper Fi! Good job, and happy birthday.

I thought it was tomorrow though. . . 11/11. Guess this is why I’m not married. . . not good with anniversary dates and crap.
Semper Fi to all the Devil Dogs.
Jack Murtha go rot in the outhouse you climbed out of….POS!
Happy Birthday Marines!
It is odd, though, that a country 220 years old would have a military parts of which are fourteen years older. Absolutely no disrespect, but it’s curious.
Michelle, just a note – Army uses “Hoorah!” or “Hoohah!” – for us Jarheads, it’s “OOH-RAH!”

my father spent 22 yrs in the Corps…I spent my 7th/8th grade education on Parris Island while he was a senior drill instructor (the only good thing was meeting Jay Black from Jay and the Americans while he was there..lol)…both the Marines and Army looked at me at the recruiter station and said “tunnel rat material”…I retired from the AF…lol…
Happy B-Day Leathernecks!!!
One Army Lieutenant I might mention just might disagree but have at it.
Happy Birthday new comers.
May God protect Marines everywhere, especially those in harm’s way.
Happy Birthday! Now go break some stuff!
OT: Congrats MM, on another award from the drama queen!
I can almost guarantee you that in the early years of the Corps, there was no concern about “whether we were being tolerant enough” toward the enemy that they were comfortable among the ranks and felt like one of the guys. Know your enemy and your friend.
Happy Birthday to the Corps.
Be proud. Be very proud.
Thank You Marines–
Thomas Jefferson sent you to put the hostage taking-tribute demanding Islamists in their place —
From the halls of Montezuma
To the shores of Tripoli
James Madison sent you again to finish the job- stating:
“It is a settled policy of America that as peace is better than war, war is better than tribute.
The United States, while they wish for war with no nation, will buy peace with none.”
When my best girl friend was in Army recruit training I wrote “USMC” slogans all over the outside of any letters and packages I sent her. It was stuff like “Hey Army, Get off your tanks and follow me cause I am Marine Corps Infantry”, “It’s OOH-RAH- Not HOO-AH”.
Sh was in very good shape when she graduated.
I wonder why.
Heheheh.
Happy Birthday, US Marines! Thank you all for your service to protect our nation.
Michelle, thanks for Project Valor-IT. I am glad I joined.
Always thankful for our Always Faithful US Marines (Semper Fi).
From the Halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli…
The first time the U.S. fought radical muslim extremists. Jefferson realized pandering didn’t work…
Happy Birthday fellow Marines!
Semper Fi!
Happy Birthday to all my fellow Marines, current and former, but especially those now guarding the streets of Heaven.
Once a Marine Always a Marine!
SEMPER FI

Former SSgt, USMC
For those only familiar with the first verse … here’s the entire Marine Corps Hymn … the Heaven reference was to the final verse …
From the Halls of Montezuma
To the Shores of Tripoli;
We fight our country’s battles
In the air, on land and sea;
First to fight for right and freedom
And to keep our honor clean;
We are proud to claim the title
of United States Marine.
Our flag’s unfurled to every breeze
From dawn to setting sun;
We have fought in ev’ry clime and place
Where we could take a gun;
In the snow of far-off Northern lands
And in sunny tropic scenes;
You will find us always on the job–
The United States Marines.
Here’s health to you and to our Corps
Which we are proud to serve
In many a strife we’ve fought for life
And never lost our nerve;
If the Army and the Navy
Ever look on Heaven’s scenes;
They will find the streets are guarded
By United States Marines.
Again … SEMPER FI!
Happy Birthday USMC!
Congrats to all you Devil Dogs, Leathernecks and Jarheads!
Thanks for your service from The Halls of Montezuma, the shores of Tripoli, The Meuse-Argonne, Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Okinawa, Iwo Jima, Chosen Reservoir, Da Nang, Hue City, Khe Sanh, Falujah and Afghanistan and all those places in between.
And tonight as you pray remember to thank God that you are not really a squid no matter what those Air Force pukes say!
Or son joined the USMC during his last year of high school. Graduated on Saturday … on the bus on Monday. My wife’s family has a bunch of Military members. My family has a bunch of Military members. We
wereare so proud.His first school age job was a bag boy at Publix. He quit because they were too strict. 5 of his school buddies went in as well.
The hardest part is when he had multiple deploys into Afghanistan. But, he loves what he does as a Marine.
It may not be what he was, but sadly what he turned into.

Happy Birthday to all my fellow Marines. Once a Marine, always a Marine.
Proud aunt of 2 Marines!
Happy Birthday Corp.
You make us proud!
I love the marines but the Navy SEALS aren’t exactly chopped liver either.
all services kick butt in their own way…don’t forget the AF and Navy soften up some of those targets before the ground pounders get there…
Happy 234th BD to our wonderful Marines, past, now, and future. Our home thanks all our military for serving to defend our Republic and the families of these men and women. Millions of American’s love ALL of you and thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

“It’s God’s job to judge Osama Bin Laden, but it’s the Marines’ job to arrange the meeting.” Anon.
Bless those wonderful Marines!
You have many friends in all of the branches of service – Happy Birthday.
FS, USAF Ret.
Semper Fi to all my brothers and sisters who earned the honor of wearing the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor. To those who have gone before, and to those serving now, happy 234th.
Gods I miss my Corps.
Bubblehead Birthday wishes to all the jarheads out there.
Semper Fi, my brothers!

Long ago the Selective Service Draft assigned draftees to any of the military services–not just to the U.S. Army. One of the problems then was WHICH SERVICE SHOULD AN INDUCTEE BE ASSIGNED TO? Fortunately a wise sergeant came up with a hypothetical situation to make great assignments.
***
The Scenario: You are sitting on top of a 300 yard high hill in Korea. All the rest of your 300 man company has been killed. You have 1 round left in your rifle. As you look from your foxhole you see 1000 North Korean soldiers 500 yards away led by a General–and they are getting ready to storm the hill and kill you. What will you do?
***
The first inductee asked the sergeant, ” What’s a rifle? I’m a Massachusetts fisherman.” Easy choice–the sarge sent him to the Navy.
***
The second inductee said, “This looks real bad. I’m going to throw this rifle away and run down the back side of the hill. Maybe I can find a phone or radio and have the Air Force fly over and bomb the enemy.” The sarge said, “Good plan!” and assigned him to the U.S. Air Force.
***
The third inductee said, “I think I can hit the General from 500 years away. I’m going to shoot at him, throw my rifle away, and run down the backside of the hill. Maybe I can find a phone or radio and call in artillery fire on the 1000 soldiers”. The sarge assigned him to the U.S. Army.
***
The last inductee said, “I might miss the General from 500 yards away. I’ll wait until they start coming up the hill. When they are 100 yards away I can’t miss when I shoot the General dead. Then I will FIX BAYONET AND GIVE THEM THEIR LAST CHANCE TO SURRENDER before I jump out of the foxhole and charge them–and I will try to kill them all!” No doubt that the sarge found his U.S. Marine!
***
And they have done it a lot–and succeeded a lot of these desperate times. Marines have a barbarian mindset when you tick them off. They are your best friend and are your worst enemy.

I joined the Corps in June of ’68. It wasn’t until my second day of boot camp that I was apprised (as only a DI Gunnery Sgt can do) about the coincidence of my date of birth – 11/10/1947. As you can imagine, I had mortal hell through boot camp because I always had to do it better, faster and more of it, it wasn’t just “one more for the Corp” – but I don’t regret a single minute. The Corp gave me the knowledge of myself and what I could do that saw me through the rest of my life. Semper Fi my brothers
Happy Birthday to my brothers and sisters. The Corps took me in at 27, gave me some great opportunities and some fond memories.
Hoorah!
A Double Happy Birthday to Sea_Dog
Happy Birthday and a HUGE Thank You!
I attended my Son’s MCT graduation at Camp Pendleton today. What a wonderful day to celebrate!
Happy Birthday Marines!
One proud Father right here…
As some others have already noted, “the shores of Tripoli” refers to our military’s first battles with Muslim terrorists.

By your math, you think the country was born in 1789?
Absolutely no disrespect, but that’s sad.
I presume that you’re referring to the year that the first ten amendments were introduced by James Madison to the First United States Congress as a series of articles.
Our country wasn’t born in 1789, nor in 1788 when the Constitution was ratified, nor in 1787 when the Constitution was written.
Our country was born July 4th, 1776. Our country was born when the Declaration of Independence was adopted by the Second Continental Congress.
The fact that it was the Second Continental Congress should also tell you something. The events of the American revolution did not begin with the Declaration of Independence. Americans had already died in armed conflict with the British military before that, including at Lexington and Concord in April 1775.
Captain Samuel Nicholas formed two battalions of Continental Marines on November 10, 1775 in Philadelphia as naval infantry.
So yes, the USMC is slightly older (< 1 year older) than our country itself.
I return to your quote
Absolutely no disrespect, but it’s curious that you don’t know the birthdate of our country. Have they stopped teaching that in schools?
I got a haircut, and worked out in the gym today, but I did not see the enemy in person. Perhaps, on Veteran’s Day.
G-d’s speed to our active duty men, and women in the field.
Death to the enemy!
Happy Birthday and Semper Fi Devil Dogs, from an old Devil Doc.
God Bless The United States Marine Corps!
