Rags, I read that article, too. The last line is the kicker:

Soldiers are going to do what I do from now on.. If I see a sign that says “no guns,” I make sure none of my guns can be seen.. I have it on me everywhere I go, no matter what the sign says..

When you see a Muslim invoke abrogation, you know you’re dealing with a radical who wants to say the later sayings in the Koran, the violent ones against non-Muslims, are required of all believers. Hence, Hasan was a follower of radical Islam and an enemy of the United States or any country other than an Islamic one ruled by Sharia law. There may be division among Islamic scholars on abrogation, but you know 100 percent that it is only invoked by the Usama Bin Ladens of the world.
WarEagle82, depending on who you listen to, you can get PTSD from a PTSD Patient or a toilet seat.
We know that is crap and just a very poor excuse for the commission of Murder and Mayhem at Ft. Hood. Hasan got a fine free education, spent 13 years in the Army, never deployed, got radicalized when he realized that school was out and he would deploy.
Hasan was unstable from day one at Walter Reed from his OERs and fellow Interns. They should have separated him from the Army then.
This PC hogwash about tolerance and diversity and the ineptitude of AMEDD in his Evals is at fault for this tragedy.
Roger that. I’ve been on military bases all over the US over several decades, and have always remarked to myself what soft targets they present.
Right after 9/11, I had occasion to visit bases all over the US, along with nuclear power plants. Guess which ones had real killers on guard? Not to put down the troopers and sailors I saw…but most of them were just bored to tears kids. The nuclear power plants had killers who were very alert.
Our military should take a leaf out of the Israeli book, and have their arms at the ready, regardless of the perceived “safety”. It is a bad joke that Texas civilians would have been more capable of defending themselves in this attack than were our soldiers.
Also, we need to purge our military of PC crap that has insinuated itself into its upper echelons.
Michael Barone terms our military a “hard” piece of our society, and we need to make sure it stays that way. Otherwise, our defense begins to look like the Euro-poodles.
I think PTSD as a chronic affliction must have contributing factors that prolong and exacerbate the internalization of conflicting interpretations of events: namely the experiential horrors, and doubt in one’s good self.
Therein lies the difference between the conflicts you mentioned: WWII and Korea were fully socially supported, which gave more veterans the psychological tools to overcome possible doubts about the necessity and therefore “goodness” of actions done or seen done by comrades.
One of my friends is doing PTSD research for her doctorate, and she sees trends that most long term PTSD materializes in situations where the subject can not be a passive observer.
For example witnessing a horrific car accident generally is not as likely to lead to PTSD in the same way as witnessing a stranger accidentally bumped off a bridge within arms length. The former may have more viscerally repellant imagery, but the latter is accompanied with the implication “I could have done something”.
So while seeing your buddies die in vietnam was arguably no more or less graphic than seeing your buddies die in WWII, the idea of general public dissatisfaction with your actions, with or without merit, is all the self-doubt necessary to contribute to PTSD.
Sure there are exceptions to the generalizations of these conflicts, but in general the best preventative medicine for PTSD has shown to be rock-solid morale and support… like *cough cough* from a certain commander in chief *cough cough* would be a good start.
Hasan could likely be diagnosed PTSD, even not being deployed he has the contributing factors of self-doubt in the good of his actions (accutely so due to his faith) and experiential trauma, even third hand. But last I checked PTSD isn’t a condition that renders one mentally incapable of determining right from wrong or perceiving his own cause of harm upon others. I don’t think it’d fly as a defence against treason, especially not if he’s tried in military commission. Fits the definition of treason whether he sees it that way or not… making war on U.S. soldiers… and if he tries to justify himself as a “Soldier of Allah” fighting a legitimate war, then he’d have the whole problem of not wearing a proper uniform and therefore subject to espionage charges… also a death penalty offense.

The military and infiltration
Hiding in plain sight is the 30 plus (?) year secret policy of affirmative action.
This policy of Affirmative Action allows and encourages the entrance and promotion of otherwise incompetents over qualified enlisted and officer based upon the desire for social engineering. The military has denied the policy actually exists but these denials are hollow.
This policy grew in 70s and gained steam in the 80s. In the early 90s when then presidents Bush and Clinton began the drawdown, the policys impact was even more pronounced. Todays military has at its highest ranks many officers and senior NCOs who should never have been promoited to these ranks.
The denials continue but the results are evident. The results of this policy has made it virtually impossible to acurately rate anyone. The inflated ratings system is well known. In both the officer and enlisted corp.
One must never sup vichyssoise after the second Wednesday in October, unless it is a year that is a multiple of 3. And then you can have it until the first Saturday in November.
And you can’t wear white after Labor Day.
What else is there to say except “Sixth Amendment”? He is more than free to pick his own if he can pay for it. If not, it is our duty to provide one to him.

But will his family step in? Will he get some financial backing from “certain” groups?
That would be a sure fire way to make sure he gets the needle. I am not so good in front of a judge.

Hasan should be entitled to JAG representation in front of a military tribunal for murder and treason. Nothing more. No fancy lawyers.
In this case it should be cut and dry. He wasn’t out picking daisies when the cops shot him. Witnesses will have to be held from active duty in order to testify for the prosecution at the tribunal.
No public trial will be necessary or should be allowed in this case. No “trial by jury”. He was a military officer on active duty.
Personally, I hope he’s executed by firing squad with bullets dipped in pig blood and lubricated with hog fat, then wrapped in a pig-skin burial shroud, set on fire, and pushed out of an airplane directly over Iran, Iraq, the Gaza Strip, or Lebanon. Take your pick.
Bingo. General court martial by the book. He’s a officer on Active Duty.

HI TRUESOLDIER–I attend Military Funerals at the Ft. Bliss, TX. National Cemetery a few times a year. Many of my ex-coworkers, neighbors, and older friends at Church served in our Military and are dying off now.

For me the hardest part is when Taps is played and the Flag is folded and given to the family. But I always remember what these fine people accomplished in their lives–keeping our freedom alive and protecting us.

Defendants in courts martial are allowed civilian attorneys and their appointed JAGs.
The most disturbing and insulting, for me, has been all of the dithering about the potential for “backlash” against the Good Mohammedans.
Maybe if we brought a little “backlash” to bear, the Good Mohammedans might decide it would be in their best interest to start policing the Bad Mohammedans.
And so he came to Ft. Hood some five days after the tragedy. Came amidst fanfare and with a retinue of hanger’s-on, flunkies and those who’d kiss the hem of his coat were he to allow it. He came in with a production company worthy of a Dino DiLaurentis epic film and made sure he had a captive cast of thousands. He came with praises and a well written speech even though TOTUS caused him to flub the first bit.
Bah! He should have been there on Friday morning, should have rushed to be at the side of those over whose life and death he will command. Been there with immediate comfort and aid. That would have made him worthy of respect and perhaps help make him worthy to lead. Instead we had a pageant and a play produced, directed and cast by his staff to show him as a leader and someone with empathy and sincerity.
Anyone who believed this show, anyone who was duped by the brilliantly written speech is incapable of thought beyond that which any Oligochaete can have in its most exalted state.

Obama should have told them that was not the place or time.
He was awkward with the opening remarks. It was like he hadn’t even met them or bothered to go over their names beforehand. His speech was pedestrian. The base commander gave the best speech.

My wife watched Obama’s speech, I’m not inclined to because of work, and she told me in Obama’s remarks, that he actually said something to the effect of this was not the act of a Just and loving God????

I wish I could be objective enough to say Obama gave a good speech but I cant. Every time I hear him speak, especially where the military is concerned, all I see is his insincerity. In my heart I’m convinced he doesnt mean it from his heart. Maybe his speech writers do, but not him. Wish it werent so.
Obama’s right about one thing though. No just and loving God would justify this. But Allah on the other hand is not a just and loving God. Allah’s purpose is to assist Satan to populate Hell with as many people as possible. Btw – that’s not from me but an Imam from Islamic history.

This of course is a blatant lie. If Barack Obama were ANY student of history (I wouldn’t doubt that he doesn’t give history any consideration at all), he’d know that faith has justified all sorts of murder and mayhem throughout, by pagans, papists, and the entire existence of Islam.
I do know that Obama knows what the Koran says, because he has claimed as such. I am not concluding that Obama is hiding the truth because he is Muslim, because I do not believe that he is ANYTHING. He does not believe in anything but himself and his own infallibility.
All that I conclude is that Obama is evil. Obama is against freedom and liberty. He is for the servility of the American people by a centralized oligarchy in Washington, DC, and is doing everything he can to destroy the founding principles and institutions that have made this the greatest nation that has ever existed.
He believes in compulsion. He believes in forcing people to do what he wants them to do. For all the talk that ‘Dubya was a dictator, where is that talk now, now that THE ONE is in charge?
