The 14th murder victim of the Fort Hood jihadi massacre
Maria Vitale at Life News.com makes an important correction to the death toll figure. It’s 14, not 13:
It was beyond heartbreaking, seeing a young widow pausing before a picture of her beloved soldier, killed not on the battlefields of Iraq or Afghanistan, but on the presumably safe spot of Fort Hood, Texas.
I had to turn away from the television screen, the pain on her face was so great.
In the massive media coverage following Major Nidal Hasan’s killing spree at the military post, I have heard over and over again about the death toll from the tragedy.
But seldom mentioned is the most hidden victim — soldier Francheska Velez’s unborn baby. Velez was on maternity leave when she stopped at Ft. Hood, where she and the child she carried in her womb fell victim to Hasan’s bullet.
The Obama Justice Department will never prosecute, but raising the question provides a teachable moment:
In the interest of true justice, Hasan should be prosecuted under the Unborn Victims of Violence Act, also known as Laci and Conner’s law, named for the pregnant woman and unborn baby who were murdered in California by Scott Peterson, the baby’s father.
It would seem that the law applies in this case for three reasons: the act of violence was committed on federal property…the shooting was allegedly done by a member of the military…and the violence could be classified as an act of terrorism.
…The Obama Administration has a moral obligation to press for prosecution of Hasan under the Unborn Victims of Violence Act. If such a legal path is ignored, it will demonstrate to the world that the President is caving into a pro-abortion lobby who will not recognize the legal rights of any child in the womb—even a child whose mother desperately longs to give birth.
My father had a favorite saying which he applied to criminal and terroristic acts: “Who weeps for the victim?” Let’s hope that, in this case, the President weeps for the victim who never had a chance to see a mother’s loving face.

Before I even read the article I knew to whom you were referring as the 14th murder victim, Michelle. Sadly, that unborn baby has not been included on the “official list” of victims, but that baby’s life is just was just as precious as the lives of the rest of those who died.
Exactly. Thank you Michelle.
If the feds would let Texas have a crack at prosecuting him, we could charge him with that murder as well. The rumor is that the military prosecutors won’t try for the death penalty. That is unhinged.
As a Texan, I demand that the military give Texas the right to avenge the deaths of the civilian dead by prosecuting and executing him.

The lack of respect for innocent life is horrible. Jihadis kill all in Allah’s name. DemocRAT’s / liberals / socialists / statists / marxists / communists support ABORTION (aka “choice”) without any feeling or compassion for the victims.
***
God must cry every day when He sees our world in action. May God bless the souls of the Mother and of the Child–both were sacrificed on the altar of political “correctness”.

How many other “Hasan’s” does the gov’t know about, but refuse to investigate for fear of being critized by the PC crowd?
Let’s start easy – Bill Ayers.
I am glad this baby is being recognized.
Thanks, Michelle.
The american people should surround the courtroom when his sentence is brought down and refuse to let them take him to club fed, he should be strung up on the courthouse steps by a vigilante mob if the feds can’t be bothered to do it themselves.
Thank you for pointing this out.
Is there anyone out there who really believes this president will weep for anyone but himself? How soon we forget his monstrous callousness in speaking out against the nurse who testified about the babies who survived abortion attempts, only to be allowed to die in her arms, because they had no one to love and care for them? This monster not only spoke against her heart-wrenching testimony, he then proceeded to vote AGAINST protecting these most helpless and vulnerable in our society.
Again I say, he is a monster. Expect nothing but evil.
I thought that I had read or heard that one of the victims was a female and was pregnant and assumed that the baby was included in the count of 13 ….
Then the next day I thought that I must of been mistaken or imagined it because of not hearing any more about it on the news.
Thank goodness for the internet and blog journalists because the conventional media is such a waste.
I either ignored this fact or didn’t hear about it (not surprising with the MSM) Thanks Michelle for bringing it into the light.
I will now correct anyone who insists there were 13 victims. It’s the least we can do for Francheska Velez’s unborn baby.
Hey, it’s above his pay grade. Remember?
aaaaaa lessee Barack Hussein? (pronounced Whos Sane)
MtnsEdge, My thoughts exactly and immediately after reading the same passage.
I kept wondering if there was any designation of term of the baby in the law?
I say give the civilian case over to the Great State of Texas. Nobody does it better…it would be over and done with before the Military even had their case ready. ‘Bambi will drag it out with the help of Casey until h#ll freezes over.
Yes, I pretty much agree 100% with this.
This bunch in DC will never recognized the unborn as life therefore it can not be taken. The abortion industry fought the Unborn Victims of Violence Act tooth and nail. I will state flat out the ONLY problem MOST of the Left has with the Fort Hood shootings was a temporary embarrassment-they could care less about our soldiers.
Obama could not even attend a memorial service without spewing self-serving political spin. Diversity before American lives Mr. President, General Casey? Try listening to Chris Matthews defense of Major Hasan’s contacts with Al Quida and other jihadist. Matthews is an easy one to hate.
And I can not find it sorry.
A tad off topic but I thought I would share this, it is worth the read:

I as Right By-The-Sea had said i knew what it was about, the left does not recognize the child as living. The baby is breathing, moving, learning and waiting with great anticipation to be born. One of you left wing sicko’s tell me what is it if not a living child?
The left gives no value to the this joy of life being protected in the womb until time arrives to be born.
Liberalism is a disease and it kills.
SpeakEasy & MissCheryl, whenever I hear those who make this president sound like he is trying to do what he thinks is best, I cringe. His only frame of reference is what is best for him. He could give a hoot about anyone else, ever, under any circumstances. He is one cold, cold character.
P.S. MissC, I liked your reference to WhosSane. Great point.
24Klady you got that right, we don’t mess around. we joke that they ask if they want fries with their KaCl.
Obama gives every sign of being a sociopath, unable to feel real emotion, empathy or sympathy to anyone but himself.
He pretends, or plays, at having emotions.
Nobody truly shocked by mass murder on an Army post starts his remarks with “shout out”s and good natured banter.
And since one of the Dem memes during Bush’s years was that there was no real ‘War on Terror’, it was all hype to justify invading countries with oil or snooping on your library book borrowing records, there will be strong pressure from Obama and General Casey on the convening authority to find Hasan mentally ill and unable to stand trial, lest he start spouting Islamic slogans justifying the jihad during his court martial.
Hear, hear. It’s kind of like having Scott Peterson making the remarks.
Liberals do not think rationally, or like any normal person. They should all donate their brains to science when they die so perhaps some day a cure will be found. I think it is as important to find a cure for liberalism as to find a cure for cancer. I am serious. If there is some gene in there that can be wiped out of the human dna, this world would finally find peace!
Imagine if this had happened in a Muslim country. Let’s pick Saudi Arabia or Pakistan (our friends).
Imagine if a minority Christian had burst into their military barracks and shot 50 people and killed 14 of them. During the process, that man shouted ‘Jesus is Lord’.
What would the reaction of the people and the government of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan be?
It’s a shame that she didn’t live to be punished with that baby.
I’d like Barry,Harry,Nancy et al, to explain to me, when does human life begin.
Ironically, if libs had their way, they’d wipe themselves out (via abortion)…they should thank God for conservatives who protect life!
Has it been decided where and who Maj Hassan will be prosecuted? There are three juridictions involved, State, Federal and Military. Or, all three?
The DC Sniper was tried and convicted in Maryland and Virginia, and I believe Mississippi wanted to try him as well, but didn’t. Maryland was shaky on the death penalty and Virginia wasn’t.
Who is less shaky on the death penalty, the Military, Federal Government, or the State of Texas? Who has the least cumbersome appeals process? Does the UCMJ and Texas have a Laci and Conner component?
I am thinking Texas is the way to go.
Hell, I volunteer to kill that b@stard with my own hands. If the Government wants to make some money, they should auction off rights to shove the needle in him.
zyzzyg,

If the Muslim major is tried by the military and found guilty, he can be sentenced to death. BUT, the president must sign off on any death penalty.
There is no way that Obambi is going to sign the papers for the execution of a muslim.
I want to see him dance around not going for the death of this terrorist.
Thanks for the link. My instincts were correct.
The POTUSA and his CZARS along with most of Congress are “ethically challenged and morally bankrupt”!
Oh my gosh! This slug slime, I am being nice here, needs to pay for his actions. I know here in America we have lawyers who defend those who might be charged, but HOW can an American defend this person?
Today, we honor our Veterans. This person can not clean the boots of our wonderful men or women.
L
the shooting was allegedly done by a member of the military…
NO, he did it…Let the muslim jihadist claim otherwise. In a court of law, allegedly is required. Here it’s an abstruse legalism.
Let’s see, the shootings stopped when Officer Mundley put four into him. I think she can identify the shooter, So instead of alleged, I think it’s safe to call him accused shooter.
I’m not a JAG but from what I remember of the Manual for Courts Martial and the UCMJ, the only authorities having jurisdiction to try and sentence the little round faced mine-finder are the Federal Courts and a duly convened Courts Martial. Personally, I’d rather see him go before a Courts Martial because the US Attorney in this part of the country is more concerned with political correctness than justice.
I’d like to think the death penalty could be invoked but it would probably only be likely to be signed by a President other than the current occupant of the oval office, his vice president and the speaker of the house. So, how about sentencing him to two years of driving around Paktika province in Afghanistan while handcuffed to the driver’s position in a Stryker that must always be the lead vehicle in any convoy to which he can be assigned? And just to be sure he can’t escape, put handcuffs and leg irons attaching him to his position. As a convict of a military court martial he would be stripped of rank and not allowed to be armed for any reason. I think somehow that would be a just and fair punishment for former MAJ Hasan.
I counted the baby, it’s sick everyone mentions that she was 3 months pregnant but leaves the death count at 13. I don’t know what kind of special math leaves out a woman’s unborn child.
Unless this is that Ezekiel Emanuel, whole lives math?
`Allegedly’ should only be used in a court of law.
If the military only charges and tries him on 13 counts, Texas should try him on the 14th count, then let him ride the lightning.
Obama weeps for no one but himself.
Of all the joys in my life, none have been greater than the joys brought by my children. To murder an innocent child is possibly the most heinous act imaginable.
Michelle, thanks for bringing the child’s death to our attention. I hadn’t heard that in the State Run Media.
Now why would that surprise me?
MM was on Hannity last night and she had to remind Hannity that there were 14 killed, not 13. Even the “Fair and Balanced” FoxNews is failing to report this story properly.
This president will never weep for the unborn – that much we already know. And if he cant weep for them, he certainly cant from the heart weep for anybody else.
Put him in a open field with a running start. Then 13 of the Army’s best marksmen open fire. See how well he dodges bullets and if he yells “Allahu Akbar”.
Finally! I was wondering when they would get around to counting the unborn child in the count. I was happy Michelle when you said that last night on Sean.
Thank you!
NOW LET’S PUSH FOR SOME PURPLE HEARTS FOR THE VICTIMS. AND SOME BRONZE STARS AS WELL!
Why is it that any other murderous bastard that kills a pregnant woman gets 2 murder charges. Why is this any different. Seems like there are 2 sets of standards anymore.
Scott Paterson should be asking for a retrial.
