Gitmo detainees will use trials as “platform” to bash America

By Michelle Malkin  •  November 22, 2009 10:13 PM

One of the Gitmo defendants’ lawyers confirms the obvious: The civilian trials for 9/11-linked enemy combatants are nothing more than a grand excuse to use our legal system to bash America and spread the jihadi virus on the world stage.

The five men facing trial in the Sept. 11 attacks will plead not guilty so that they can air their criticisms of U.S. foreign policy, the lawyer for one of the defendants said Sunday. Scott Fenstermaker, the lawyer for accused terrorist Ali Abd al-Aziz Ali, said the men would not deny their role in the 2001 attacks but “would explain what happened and why they did it.”

The U.S. Justice Department announced earlier this month that Ali and four other men accused of murdering nearly 3,000 people in the deadliest terrorist attack in the U.S. will face a civilian federal trial just blocks from the site of the destroyed World Trade Center. Ali, also known as Ammar al-Baluchi, is a nephew of professed 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. Mohammed, Ali and the others will explain “their assessment of American foreign policy,” Fenstermaker said.

“Their assessment is negative,” he said.

Bleeding-heart Barack Obama and interest-conflicted Eric Holder are all too happy to serve as executive directors for the 9/11 show trials.

Hey, why not turn them into a Broadway play while you’re at it, White House?

***

Just a reminder of what Obama wrote about the 9/11 jihadists eight days after the attack left 3,000 innocent men, women, and children dead on American soil:

“We must also engage, however, in the more difficult task of understanding the sources of such madness. The essence of this tragedy, it seems to me, derives from a fundamental absence of empathy on the part of the attackers: an inability to imagine, or connect with, the humanity and suffering of others. Such a failure of empathy, such numbness to the pain of a child or the desperation of a parent, is not innate; nor, history tells us, is it unique to a particular culture, religion, or ethnicity. It may find expression in a particular brand of violence, and may be channeled by particular demagogues or fanatics. Most often, though, it grows out of a climate of poverty and ignorance, helplessness and despair.”

My response last year:

As for Obama’s continued delusion about the “climate of poverty and ignorance” that supposedly breeds Muslim terrorists, can American politicians ever rid themselves of this unreality-based trope? This belief is part and parcel of the same idiocy that lead the State Department to embrace “spa days” for Muslims to “build bridges” with the Arab world and President Bush to open up our aviation schools to more Saudi students to “improve understanding.” John McCain also alluded to education-as-cure for Islamic terrorism at the L.A. World Affairs Council in March, when he declared that “In this struggle, scholarships will be far more important than smart bombs.” Just what we need: more student visas for the jihadi-infested nation that sent us the bulk of the 9/11 hijackers.

Author and National Review Online blogger Mark Steyn’s sharp rejoinder to McCain then applies to Obama now: “There’s plenty of evidence out there that the most extreme ‘extremists’ are those who’ve been most exposed to the west – and western education: from Osama bin Laden (summer school at Oxford, punting on the Thames) and Mohammed Atta (Hamburg University urban planning student) to the London School of Economics graduate responsible for the beheading of Daniel Pearl. The idea that handing out college scholarships to young Saudi males and getting them hooked on Starbucks and car-chase movies will make this stuff go away is ridiculous – and unworthy of a serious presidential candidate.”

Ayman al-Zawahiri didn’t need more education or wealth to steer him away from Islamic imperialism and working toward a worldwide caliphate. He has a medical degree. So does former Hamas biggie Abdel Rantissi. Seven upper-middle-class jihadi doctors were implicated in the 2007 London/Glasgow bombings. Suspected al Qaeda scientist Affia Siddiqui, still wanted by the FBI for questioning, is a Pakistani who studied microbiology at MIT and did graduate work in neurology at Brandeis.

And as I’ve reported before and must reiterate again for the hard of hearing in Washington, lowering academic standards at American colleges helped al Qaeda mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed further the jihadi cause. In the early 1980s, he enrolled at tiny Chowan College in Murfreesburo, N.C., which had dropped its English requirements to attract–ahem–wealthy Middle Easterners. At Chowan, Mohammed bonded with other Arab Muslim foreign students known as “The Mullahs” for their religious zeal. Mohammed then transferred to North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, where he earned his degree in mechanical engineering along with 30 other Muslims. Mohammed applied his Western learning to oversee the 1993 World Trade Center bombing plot (six Americans dead), the U.S.S. Cole attack (17 American soldiers dead), and the September 11 attacks (3,000 dead). He has also been linked to the 1998 African-embassy bombings (212 dead, including 12 Americans), the plot to kill the pope, the murder of American journalist Daniel Pearl, and the Bali nightclub bomb blast that killed nearly 200 tourists, including two more Americans.

Perhaps bleeding-heart Obama thinks a master’s degree in social work would have convinced poverty-stricken, helpless, ignorant, despairing Mohammed to change his mind?

No. Actually, this needs to be on TV as much as possible in all its glory to show what an incredibly stupid move it was, and exactly what the left has supported since 9/11/01.

Many people saw through the OJ trial, this would be no different.

Some Youtube video experts could intersperse clips of the stupidity on trial with what happened that day.

I can see it now. Fuzzy Jihadi whining about sleep deprivation in one clip, and the Pentagon burning in another. Some leftist lawyer whining about his client not getting enough exercise next to the video of one of the towers collapsing with the Cosgrove 911 audio.

Once you think about that, it shows how absolutely foolish the decision was to allow this trial to be held.

So there’s nothing to fear from KSM speaking evil against America and calling for jihadists everywhere to attack us. But if Sarah Palin goes on a book tour, be afraid. Be very afraid! She’s dangerous!

Committee Chairman Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT) backed Holder’s decision to try Mohammed in New York:

“They committed murder here in the United States, and we’ll seek justice here in the United States,” Leahy said. “We will not be afraid. We will still go forward, and we will prosecute them.”

We were not at war with Japan when they attacked Pearl Harbor and killed 2,350, including 68 civilians. Should we have captured every Japanese soldier who took part in the raid and tried them in civilian courts in Hawaii for committing “murder” here in the U.S.?

By moving trials from military to civilian courts, this administration is changing the way we have always treated those who commit war crimes. They defend themselves by saying that we must not let terrorists change the way we seek justice in this country. But we have never tried legal or illegal enemy combatants picked up on foreign battle fields in civilian courts. So aren’t they doing just that — allowing the terrorists to change the way we have always sought justice in this country?

I might have thought of a different take on this trial business.

It will likely be a while before everything is said and done, right? The trials may be over by Novemebr 2010, and this is bad, because if the administration’s prediction is correct (that we will get convictions), Obowmao will claim that his approach to terror works, right before we all go to the polls, which will give the left good press right when they need it.

Knowing the under-handed nature of Obowmao, I wonder if there hasn’t been a deal worked out between him and the bad guys to let tham tell their story on the stage of a trial, in exchange for a guaranteed death sentence, which doesn’t bother the jihadis.

I know I may be giving the current president too much credit for intelligence, but he is a scheming Chi-town politician, after all.

The one thing they can do is make the world lose confidence and respect of the U.S. I can very easily see how they can twist things to an already America-jaded world (including allies) that we are overbearing crybabies, a’la “the mollycoddled and pampered isolated Americans only lost 3000 people in 9-11 — as much as some of you others lost in a week in WW II or other conflicts for years, yet they want special sympathy than be awakened to the real world” etc. Yes, I can see this working out there — and worst, a lot of Americans going along with it. Unfortunately too many Americans outside the East Coast especially didn’t feel as “personally hit” by 9-11 when it occurred, like how the Oklahoma bombing felt to most New Yorkers. There should really be far more outrage about closing Gitmo than there is.

I haven’t even kept that list of truths up-do-date. There’s already so much there that it is a bit overwhelming, yet Obama continues to say and do things on practically a monthly basis that could be added to this list.

Yet people seem to accept that 11 AP reporters “Fact Checked” Palin’s book, while not a single one of the 1,075 people, each of whom sworn to support and defend the Constitution, including the 20th Amendment text “a President shall have qualified“, not a single one of those 1,075 people “Fact Checked” an initial, hospital Birth Certificate for Barack Hussein Obama II.

Even if born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Obama could have been born on non-U.S. soil: sovereign Hawaiian “Crown Lands”. The hospital originally claimed as Obama’s birthplace, the Queen’s Hospital, appears to sit on such land. If so, the Queen’s Hospital is no more located on U.S. soil than Colón Hospital in Colón, Panama (McCain’s birthplace).

And the Supreme Court has not answered the question of how someone born a British subject (as Obama was) could ever be considered a “natural born Citizen” of the United States.

Those who continue to ignore this do so at their own peril.

I think it is a good idea to give the 9/11 “man caused disaster” guys (previously known as TERRORISTS) some platforms to allow them to quickly explain their rationale for murdering 3000 people.
    ***
The platforms should have some trapdoors and ropes included in their designs. WHAM! AAAARGGGGGH! should give each of them 3 seconds of fame–plenty of time for “explanations”. Refer to Saddam Hussein’s long drop with a short rope for technical details.

Hope and Change I can believe in. Sometimes “low tech” solutions are the best ones.

And he showed where his son got the right stuff! Conservatives ought to check him out as a possible candidate.

Since the Liberal Lemmings are all lining up to support Dah One and his sidekick Eric, ask them the following question.

Can you explain, if you are a member of a criminal organization, similar to The Mafia, the Yukuza, the Columbian Drug Cartel, MI 13, the Russian Mafia, The Hells Angels, etc. how does it further your objectives to attack the Pentagon?

That is the no brainer in this whole discussion. No one involved in crime would attack the HQ of the U.S. military.

When reality dooes not fit your template your only hope is to create an alternate reality, no matter how bizarre it may be.

The Left isn’t affected at all by 9/11. It was a tragedy that happened to “others” and America had it coming anyway. The Left isn’t angry about 3000 people killed in a terrorist attack. It’s angry about the 2000 elections and this show trial is simply a way for the Left to have its revenge at long last against the evil usurpers Bush and Cheney.

It’s also about appeasing the Arabs, figuring that if they keep feeding us to the crocodiles, the crocs will eat them last.

I heard Scott Beamer this morning before I went to work. What a guy! If it were me, they’d have to bleep out every other word.

That libs/dems/terrorists are bashing the USA isn’t the issue as it’s old hat by now. Why isn’t the focus on things like discovery will be used to get intelligence info to the rest of Holder’s KSM’s brethren so they’ll know how close we are to finding their caves? That’s what happened during the Blind Sheik trial and why OBL moved to Afghanistan, no?

Since this is going forward….. I certainly hope the trial is a fiasco and Obama and the other democrats pay with their jobs.

In the meantime, at least until Novemeber 2010…. the mission is to prevent Obama, Reid and Pelosi from passing any bills.

President Obama had to take back his promise that KSM and the others will be convicted and sentenced to death precisely because he and A.G. Holder insist on trying them in our civilian court system; there is no guarantee of the outcome until evidence has been heard and the jury reaches a verdict (if it gets to that point).

Meanwhile, they will take the opportunity to tell us exactly why we deserved what they admit they did to us that day?

    YA THINK?!!!

    Bleeding-heart Barack Obama

I respectfully dissent Michelle, BHO is a type one psychopath (most politicians and attorneys are), they have little or no emotional response to the suffering of others, we all know them too, they are the types that when backed into a corner because they are not clearly winning an argument, they resort to calling people stupid. Type 1 psychopaths will get extremely personal in order to get their way. They usually are charismatic and have a talent for suckering people who want a leader into following them and doing their bidding.

Type 1 psychopaths are extremely focused on their mission and basically are con men. BHO does not care about the terrorists or the American people, but he does care about money and himself. These show trials may uncover a bounty of public money going into the pockets of attorneys (attorneys who kick back some dough for the handout). BHO gets to thank his radical backers again by giving lefties a forum to bash the country they love to hate and steal even more money out of public funds.

The guy on tv the other night said we should put them on the top floor of an old high rise building and set it afire. They can then decide how they want to die. Burn to death, Smoke inhalation, or jump. Similar to the choices 9/11 victims had.

I personally have no problem letting them rot in Gitmo until the “war” is over and their side has surrendered.

But no show trial to appease the left and our enemies. Not that those 2 are mutually exclusive.

I find myself hoping for a big terrorist attack in New York during the trial… bad thing to hope for I know, but what will it take for America to wake up?

Reports I hear say that the trial won’t begin until around 2011 at the earliest, when it may impact on the 2012 election. And what is Obama and Holder going to offer to the 9/11 victims, group therapy?
