Turkeys of the year

As we gather ‘round the Thanksgiving table, bow our heads in prayer, and feast on the holiday bird, it is only fitting to take a moment to fete the unforgettable turkeys of 2009.
1. The stimulus. Back in February, I wrote that if the trillion-dollar stimulus plan were a Thanksgiving dinner entree, it would be a Turbaconducken — the heart attack-inducing dish of roasted chicken stuffed inside a duck stuffed inside a turkey, all wrapped in endless slabs of bacon. And so it has come to pass. After the Democrat majority larded up the massive spending package with earmarks and bribes, President Obama declared it pork-free and has stubbornly touted its job creation benefits for out-of-work Americans.
Reality check? The Washington Examiner reports that more than ten percent of the jobs the Obama administration claimed were “created or saved” by the stimulus are doubtful or imaginary. ABC News uncovered countless examples of bogus congressional districts listed as stimulus beneficiaries by the Obama stimulus tracking website, Recovery.gov. The money has been lavished on shady beauty schools in New Hampshire, prison inmates in Texas, and wind companies in Spain and China. Just this week, a California audit found that the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation overstated the number of jobs saved by federal stimulus dollars by upwards of 13,000.
While this Generational Theft Act continues to soak up our tax dollars and add to our children and grandchildren’s debt, the Democrat majority is in the government kitchen cooking up a second stimulus turkey to provide federal infrastructure money to public-sector unions. Gobble, gobble.
2. President O-bow-ma. The candidate who pledged to restore America’s standing in the world couldn’t figure out how to stay standing in front of world leaders. In April, he crouched before Saudi King Abdullah. This month, he provoked global derision when he broke protocol and performed a spineless blunder in front of the Japanese emperor.

The kowtower-in-chief’s body language reflected the administration’s broader foreign policy prostrations – including scrapping missile defense in the Czech Republic and Poland, canceling a meeting with the Dalai Lama to appease China, sitting on its hands this summer during the Iranian election protests, and unveiling the 9/11 show trials in New York City that will provide a circus platform to jihadis and international Bush-haters.
The Left complained that George W. Bush was too much of a cowboy on the global stage. It’s better than having a waterboy.
3. Green jobs czar Van Jones. This deep-fried turkey was recruited by Team Obama’s Chicago consigliere Valerie Jarrett, who boasted about recruiting the Marxist rabble-rouser from Oakland. He openly crusaded to free Philadelphia Death Row cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal, bashed capitalism with radical revolutionary rhetoric, and signed a 9/11 conspiracy petition that he meekly disavowed in a botched attempt to save his job. Jones is now at the Center for American Progress, run by Obama transition official and Democrat operative John Podesta.

The other turkey in the story, Val Jarrett, escaped unscathed and went on to push the Obamas into their failed crony campaign for the Olympics 2016 bid in Copenhagen – a taxpayer-funded, hubris-infused debacle that ties with Van Jones for third biggest turkey of the year. Rio got the Games.

Photoshop: Paul Croteau
America got a closer look at the pay-for-play patrons, power brokers, and developers in the Windy City that have put an indelible Chicago stamp on the Potomac.
4. The New York Times. Scooped by Fox News, conservative blogs, and talk radio on the exploding ACORN scandal, the paper whitewashed its own role in covering up the community organizing criminal racket’s financial shenanigans last fall when it cut off a reporter’s investigation a few weeks before Election Day. Jill Abramson, the Times’ managing editor for news, acknowledged that her staff was “slow off the mark” and blamed “insufficient tuned-in-ness to the issues that are dominating Fox News and talk radio.” They assigned a new “opinion media monitor” to track the competition, but refused to identify the watchdog for fear that he/she would get too many mean, intrusive e-mails and phone calls.
More recently, the paper’s website demonstrated that it’s real motto is “All the inconvenient news that’s fit to suppress.” The Times’ lead environmental blogger, Andrew Revkin, haughtily refused to reprint damning e-mails leaked by a hacker in the burgeoning “ClimateGate” scandal. The documents reveal a long trail of manipulated data, but Revkin balked at the ill-gotten trove. The blabbermouths at the Times had no problem exposing national security secrets to undermine George W. Bush. But shed light on scientific hoaxes that undermine Al Gore? Unethical!
5. Tea Party-bashers. Millions of ordinary, peaceful Americans joined the Tea Party movement to revolt against big government, backroom deals, and the Beltway culture of corruption. For their exercise of free speech and free assembly, they were smeared nationwide.
Hollywood has-been Janeane Garafolo called them “racist, backward motherf**kers.” SEIU labor thug Dennis Rivera accused them of “terrorist tactics.”
CNN anchor Anderson Cooper used a vulgar sexual epithet to describe them. Team Obama’s astroturfers declared all-out war on them.
For refusing to sit down and shut up in the face of such unhinged bigotry, and for exposing the foulness of the political fowl, I have two words for them: Thank you.

Excellent post.
One last turkey might be P.C. We should say that
“Political Correctness died at Ft. Hood”
Priceless, Michelle! I look forward to all the “letters to the editor” decrying your “hate speech” and “ignorance”! LOL!
The silence of the left is deafening, particularly on the Climategate scandal.
Here’s another: Political correctness is not part of the scientific method.
The rise of liberal/socialism is a strong marker of the decline of a civilization.
Excellent recap Michelle. I haven’t eaten a bite of turkey yet, but I’m already stuffed: with stimulus that never stimulated, taxes, socialist programs, communists and conspiracy theorists infesting Congress and the WH like so many cockroaches, and the endless hubris of our bowing President who cannot stop apologizing for, and embarrassing this great Country. Someone please pass the pepto-bismal; this indigestion won’t end until at least November 2010.
(BBBuuuuurrrrrrrpppp!) Well excuse me!
Hey pass me some of that razzleberry dressing! Some more Turbaconducken? Oh no I couldn’t possibly eat another bite!
Michelle–thanks for bringing up Rio de Janiero again. It always gives me such a chuckle…
almost as much as watching the dizzying rise of Mr. J. Garafalo’s career…lol
Fantastic post. But the NYT could be expanded to the entire LSM, since none of them have touched Climategate. I guess they are waiting with their fingers in their ears to be even more embarrassed as this is exposed through alternate media.
Thank you, Michelle. This is a perfect summary of all I’m not thankful or grateful for this year. It’s really quite sad so many Americans would rather institute a political thought experiment than actually examine what the hell is wrong in Washington. Yeah, those Republicans were bad but as we’ve seen, reactionary voters who vote in Dems have already cooked the Christmas goose!!!
Have these morons woken up from their Hope and Change stupor? Are are they still surviving on unfulfilled promises that will remain just that: unfulfilled promises? As we’ve already seen, it’s easy for the guvmint to make promises but not so easy to keep them.
The biggest thing I’m ungrateful for during this time of “giving” is stupid, uneducated voters who don’t have the political will to not only look outside both parties but give up their freebies like welfare, social security, and medicare/medicaid. The only people who deserve any kind of government pension and health care are the military. Not the public employees or the government employees.
Until this country can be turned around, our goose is literally cooked. We’ll suffer the same kind of insanity as the UK, Canada, and the rest of the socialist experiments in their last throws of failure. And the liberals, in all their deceit-filled wrapped hypocrisy and greed, want it no other way.
The have nots control this country (see the latest Gallup poll of who still thinks so highly of the Chosen One) and they won’t be content (or satisfied) until they bleed the rest of us (the people who actually contribute to this economy and pay taxes) dry.
Great recap Michelle! Thanks for nuthin’ Librocrats.
Oh, no! MM’s notorious image of Turbaconducken is back. I still think it looks remarkably like Hellen Thomas.
Errah now my tummy will hurt for Thanksgiving Day after seeing that pic of Janeane Garafahoe. One can only hope she has a crappy May Day when it comes around.
Error of comedies.
Lefties by their very nature are a funny bunch, add in an infection of zombie liberalism and they can’t help but run around in circles.
I can only imagine what he would be willing to do if he found himself standing in front of Adam Lambert
Look at the expression on poor J.G.’s face; typical liberal, weighed down with guilt for the real and/or imagined evils of her race/country, anger and hatred towards anyone who disagrees with her, etc. I would wish her a happy Thanksgiving if she’s capable of being happy ever and does not intend to spend the day in mourning for the “sins” of the first white settlers.
Happy Thanksgiving to MM and all my fellow commentators as well.
Turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, Mom’s homemade bread . . . now there’s something worth going “MMM MMM MMM” over, if you all know what I mean . . .
Hey Obowmao! Stand up straight, you twinkle-toed, communisitic, invertebrate!
Great list Michelle….
I would add “Cash for Clunkers” as a real “burnt” Turkey.
The summer program spurred the sale of about 690,000 cars, trouble was most of those cars would have been sold anyway. According to Edmunds.com only 125,000 of the sales were attributable to CFC making the cost per “stimulated” vehicle about $24,000.00……Good use of your hard earned tax money. Not.
Just in time for Thanksgiving, the Obama administration is about to give liberal elites their Just Desserts.
They now want the rich to be taxed for sending more troops to Afghanistan. Michael Moore, Sean Penn et al. are going to have to pay….
May I add?
Every last American who ever gave the light of day to global warming. I never did once – any idiot could see the thin gruel that was AGW. But now maybe more will see the bizarre cabal that has been liberal politics and the old media’s love of this non-issue.
At the Thanksgiving table there will be no
Tea Party-bashers, slut of the month Hollywood has-been Janeane Garafolo, Van-Ivan the Mouth-Jones, Bow Low O’Bama, BitterMama O’Bama nor the rest. We shall give Thanks and let the littlest load up on ice cream and pie- then all good Neanderthals fall asleep watching football.
I need my rest because Friday I am going to Prescott: J&G Sales has a HUGE price break on police trade-in shotguns- Smith & Wesson Model 3000 . For that I also give Thanks
Having too much fun here: my wife has work for me to do. I never should have retired.

HI SPEAKUP–Thank you for the Sam Adams paragraph. Those brave Patriots risked all to give us our fine country. Another great paragraph is George Washington’s Thanksgiving Day speech–he thanked GOD–not himself–for our country, and asked for His protection for us many times during his talk.
***
The Lord must look down in disbelief at what has gone on in our country over the last 60 years. A country that inspired many others to copy us and fight for their liberty and for justice. And a country that no longer defends innocent unborn life–40 million plus ABORTIONS (not “choices”), not standing up against evil, putting the crooks in charge.
***
Michelle Malkin just hit the “low points” in this posting–it would take all day to read about all the TURKEYS IN OUR GOVERNMENT. But “buck up”–Thanksgiving day is almost here, and I hear some CHOPPING SOUNDS getting nearer. Hope and Change you can believe in is coming soon. Being a turkey has some drawbacks!
***
Support the good conservatives financially as they CHOP AWAY at this turkey overload. Teaparty them at all opportunities.

Michelle,
For all you’ve done to help get the truth out in the face of scurrilous, racist and hateful personal attacks I have two words for you.
THANK YOU
Excellent column Michelle!
OT – I have scoured high and low for audio or video of Reagan’s 1975 CPAC Speech “Let Them Go Their Way” to no avail.
Does anyone know if audio or video of this speech exists? If so – where can I find it?
Thank you!
Janeane GawdAwfullo almost makes Keith Olberdoom seem a newscaster.
The main concern now is this:
Will the Marxists in DC wake up in time to see how they are risking electoral suicide; or, will they continue down their fascist path (presuming, with lamentably understandable guesswork), that the Idiot American Electorate will be too stupid to remember this next November)?
It’s all quite frightening.
Maybe al Qaeda will save Obambi’s butt by blowing up Chicago.
Michelle, you forgot one other “foreign policy prostration”: the support for the thug in Honduras. Don’t feel bad – with so many “foreign policy prostrations” in such a short time one is bound to forget a prostration or two.
BTW – Stellar summary!
Have a great Thanksgiving!
Surprising you left off the story of the century — the global warming fraud.
That’s an empty job. NYT hasn’t published news in years. They pick what stories they want to print and fill it with commentary. It even supported Stalin and buried stories about the famines and deaths. It’s only good for liberals who are naive and gullible, and those who are ignorant.
Great column MM… If you want votes, mine has to go to THE PORKULUS from February… That is hands down the TURKEY of all time… Great list of runner ups though…
And taxpayer monies undoubtedly go to pay the salaries of these crooks to this day. To the bitter end, these apparatchiks will be feeding at the public teat. The only public monies they should get are those funding their stay in a federal prison complex. No HD TV or cell phones please.
How astute of Samuel Adams. How brave. Now we only have a handful of people who are willing to speak up … our Michelle Malkin, Glenn Beck, Sean H., etc.
False and designing men (and women) are out to take our freedoms away. The proverbial line must be drawn in the sand. We cannot let our enemy cross that line. We may be in for a long battle. But we must prevail.
Well, I was going to have breakfast this morning until I accidentally saw that hideous beast up there that is Janeane GaRALPHholo. Lost my appetite after that.
A BLESSED THANKSGIVING TO YOU MICHELLE.
AND TO ALL THE READERS HERE!!
NO MATTER WHAT, GOD IS STILL IN CONTROL.
+1
That Garafalo gal could use a bacon blanket.
I, for one, am thankful for these turkeys and the many others that Michelle hasn’t mentioned. Just reading these items assures that my dieting efforts will be safe through the Thanksgiving “gluttony”. I am so full of disgust over these turkeys, I will probably just have salad tomorrow. I have already lost 60 pounds and this will assure that I don’t re-gain some over this holiday. Heck, this might just carry me through Christmas too!! Especially vomit-inducing, is no-talent, extremely stupid J.Garapholo or whatever his name is. Oh, female you say? Who knew? Anyway, it represents the moonbat fringe so well, whenever I hear its drivel, I am reminded that Hollywood is full of “her” ilk and thus the reason I don’t go to movies any more.
Michelle: A+++++++++++++++ column today.
Thanks for all you do.
Happy Thanksgiving to all.
My dog still wouldn’t play with her!
Yes, but it saved the jobs of every man, woman (and child in China) on earth twice, and then some.
Fortunately, he’s also ruined the value of the dollar…so it’s less money than it actually seems.
Turbaconducken – I assume this is cooked on the exhaust manifold of a ’69 Dodge Charger?
I vote for the biggest turkey of all–Algore and the global warming hoax just exposed!!! “Carbon Credits”!! and the UK was going to make their people “buy” them–it was their guys that perpetrated the hoax in the first place with the ICCP!! Better yet, NOW Obummer has decided to go to Copenhagen for the “Climate Summit” when they are talking about doing NOTHING because of the “revelations”—can this turkey not get any bigger??????????????????
Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!! Drive careful!!
Ditto and back at ya!
I hope so, I just wish he didn’t act like he was DUI sometimes.

Fume flavor – TASTY!
AlohaGuy; I would eat yours before that picture up above…
oopsie.
that didn’t sound right.
Anyway…
THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID!
I heard the Turkey Pardoned Obama this time around..
Blood is thicker than water.. hahahaha!
Errah . . . cooked on the exhaust manifold of a 69 dodge charger. This brings me back to my days as a boy scout when that’s exactly what my scoutmaster showed us. He had us wrap up our meals in tin foil and placed them on the intake manifold of his 1968 440 super commando charger. It’s exact and proper way to cook a meal on the way to scout camp on a friday evening. The meal was a great hamburger/potato/veggy medley and all we had to do was set up our tents and then eat. Brilliant! Thanks for exciting that ole neuron. I may have a good Thanksgiving after all.
Let me add another brand new turkey: Lou Dobbs. Preparing himself for an independent run for a Senate seat in NJ, he suddenly supports amnesty for illegals. No, seriously.
Obama dipped to the Chinese premier. He’s very flexible.
With three years to go, investing in an O-bow-ba clock could bring good returns.
Do you think it tastes better when cooked with Phillips 66 Premium Unleaded, or with Texaco Regular Unleaded?
Next time, I’ll try using a little STP Fuel Injector Cleaner.
I nominate John McCain, fifth columnist, as Republican turkey of the year for throwing the election.
I’m glad you posted this on the day before Thanksgiving. Thse turkeys are enough to make me lose my appetite.
There might even be somewhere in the world where good old leaded super 97 is still available. Last time I saw it was in 1986 Las Vegas at a Checkers gas station.
Not your typical brew.
Pretty telling when his campaign aides shredded Palin after the election – as if she was responsible for McCain’s crappy campaign. Nobody wants Dem Lite. Palin was the only reason it wasn’t a total blowout. To be fair to the campaign, McCain was a lousy candidate, picked for the GOP by the leftwing media. If they try to trot out another liberal R like McCain in 2012 the crap will hit the fan.
*Thanks for the column Michelle, and all you expose that the Minor League Media refuses to do; Climategate is the story of the century, yet they ignore it.
I hope the New York Times doesn’t give Obama any ideas. He might refuse to identify future czars to protect them from being exposed as turkeys by Michelle Malkin. Legislators would have a tough time making the czars testify before congress if they didn’t know who they were. Thousands of anonymous czars could be set free on the country to implement Obama’s socialist policies without accountability. And, when something went wrong, Obama would have an anonymous czar to blame for the problem.
Other than violating Obama’s transparency pledge (which hasn’t stopped him yet) and violating the constitution (which doesn’t seem to concern him, anyway), I don’t see a downside to this from Obama’s point of view. Appointing anonymous czars would have the additional benefit of preventing Glenn Beck from giving them his phone number. That would have made Anita Dunn happy.
Nowadays, you have to wrap it in a hemp t-shirt and attach it to the battery pack of your Prius. It won’t cook, but Al Gore will sell you carbon offsets if you want to actually cook it. Or for $39.95, he’ll hang it in the exhaust of his Gulfstream and leave a Thanksgiving Bacontrail from Tennessee to Geneva. Return postage is on you.
happy thanksgiving to all and michelle i hope you and your family have a great thanksgiving. my daughter and family will be coming home for the weekend, and i will get to play horsey for my grandson. pray for me, as his energy level could wear out 10 marines, and may land me in the heart attack ward. what fun, i can’t wait for him to arrive. btw, what parts could that skank garrafolo play, alien lesbian slut? those tattooes are just soooo attractive.
I say my prayers to G-d the Father in Christ’s name, with a special please watch over our military men and women in harms way.
My turkey of the year is this bho. It has been said that a turkey will drown if he has his nose in the rain. The turkey is to be said to be not too smart. Well, have you seen this bho? His nose is always up and above the rest of us.
L
Ditto single stack! Well said. Thank you Michelle and Happy Thanksgiving to you, your family and all who visit here.
false and designing men Hmmm, that would be Obama and the democrats.
The Republican Party for having open primaries so the leftists could stack the deck against conservative, American values.
Hope is not a plan; not all change is good! WE are the civilian national security force! If people want to vote in Republican primaries, make them register as Republicans! Support LTC (Ret.) Allen West for Congress! As for me, Home 6 is buying me a Ruger Mini-14 for Christmas. The resistance is here! The resistance is now! RESIST!!!!!!!!!!!
ECS
I heard they were planning on running that Schizoprenia lady from NY in the next presidential race. The media will love her and she will be nominated. She will choose as her VP candidate someone like Sen. Graham, or maybe Olympia Snowe.
Tomorrow is going to be interesting at our gathering. There will be 31 family members. Our host is my Rush Limbaugh look-alike brother and his wife. My brother looks so much like Rush that people have actually done double-takes when they see him. He is a far-right wing radical extremist and enjoys a good cigar. Needless to say, I love him to pieces!! My other brother is a far-left moonbat idiot. I’m pretty sure he was adopted, although he looks a lot like the rest of the family. Sigh. Most other family members are somewhere in between. I usually hug my moonbat brother when I arrive, and then avoid him for the rest of the day. Works best for both of us, and my food digests so much better!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL OF MY “PEN PALS”!!
Yeah they might not be at the same level as your turkeys listed Michelle, but I think the GOP/RNC/moderate Republicans/RINO’s all deserve to be turkeys of the year as well for trying to foist candidates like Scuzzafava off on us.
They continue to do so with Fiorina.
To all here at Michelle Malkin, I ask God to bless each and every one of you and your family. Those who have any serving, a special blessing to you and a prayer for their safely. Of all the countries God created, our America is the most blessed and wonderful in the world. I ask a pray for Israel, God’s Holy land.
L
Kids and grandkids are off on their own Thanksgiving this year, so the wife and I will have our own special meal. She loves the parade and both of us love the football games. We will give thanks for all of His blessings given us this year. Though there is much we would like and want, we give thanks for what we have now, which is more than many people have. We could have a lot less. Happy Thanksgiving to all the people here and, especially Michele and her family.
The question comes to mind, just when is our Justice Department going to start upholding its responsibility?
Turkeys indeed. This year has made me thankful (to Him) for this great nation and the unprecedented lifestyle and freedom we’ve been afforded. I’m thankful for those who’ve toiled and those who have given their lives to keep the nation going. And then I’m thankful for those who are talented enough to lead the charge to keep it going under current circumstances. Even though what’s happening politically is evil, it’s brought out the best work by people like Michelle Malkin, I’m thankful for the ability to witness it.
I nominate blogads.com for a very minor turkey award. Just tried to go advertise on Michelle’s site through them but they’re having some kinda major meltdown.
Indeed. It’s a turkey that gives National sickness, leading to death.
They are. It’s run by The Other Justice Brothers.
Reserved for the elites. Amazing how the self-proclaimed smartest among us are actually the most foolish.
Same with the climate crowd. God makes foolish those who consider themselves intelligent in their own eyes.
Afer all, he’s an expert on the subject.
“Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.” Rom. 1:22
Definition of a fool: “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.” Ps. 14:1
Couldn’t resist.
There is something going on… I am not sure what, or if it will be successful. But something is going on…
Do you know the story of how Christians to avoid trouble when meeting someone before revealing their faith, would draw half of the fish sign on the ground and wait to see if the other person would draw the other half which would show that they were also a Christian?
Well, that is kinda like what I find happening more and more. I meet someone, and we hem and haw around with code words about how things are going in the country and how we feel until we are comfortable to start talking about that bastard Obama and how he is trying to destroy this nation and our freedom. And I am amazed how many times this is happening. You see, we are terrified of poltical correctness and being labeld a raaaacist, but we are in large number.
The tea partys are showing the numbers, and I think this is a real groundswell.
What will happen I don’t know, there are far too many welfare suckers and losers to make it an easy thing to do, but I think there may be a big change coming…
Wouldn’t it be amazing if Obama actually ends up becomming the BEST thing to happen to this country in a long time?
On this Thanksgiving day, I hope so.
You, sir, are so correct. However, I tend not to really care and go ahead and speak my mind anytime the need arises.
There are other scandals at the New York Times. Today, the Times had an oped from John Reid listing all the places that have been victimized from terrorism since 2001. Reid and the NY Times listed New York, London, Bali, Mumbai, and Madrid, the US, UK and Spain , but Reid and the Times deliberately omitted Israel and Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. The New York Times is so politically correct that it will not acknowledge that suicide bombers in Tel Aviv are terrorists and the Times will not even concede that teenagers killed at a mall in Tel Aviv are even victims. Today the Times sank even deeper.
Janeane Garafolo is nasty and my stereotypical vision of an ugly liberal female, Michael Moore being the male equivalent.
My son convinced me I needed to leave the house last weekend and go to a movie with him. There is a scene where George Clooney’s nutjob character is trying to cook a hamburger in a solar oven in Iraq.
Didn’t work. Funny as heck and I was surprised ole George would allow sucha smackdown of liberal elitist dogma (renewable energy is the best energy) in one of HIS movies.
BTW, the rest of the movie was really funny, too.
Life still sucketh, but it may improve.
Before members of our family sat down to eat our turkey meal yesterday, we all stated at least three things that we were thankful for. My third and final “thing” was for our enemies, because they are so transparent and stupid. I couldn’t have wished for a bunch who are more idiotic than those who run the Democratic Party and the state-run “mainstream media.” They are writing their own epitaphs.
One more turkey to mention…the Jive Turkey, BHO.
Dogs do that (mostly female dogs) to show submissiveness.
You’d think the NYT “opinion media monitor” would have mentioned Climategate to the staff quite a bit by now.
Here’s a link to my photos from yesterday’s St. Louis downtown Tea Party:
